I think the media will mess us over with Zimmer; on NFL Network LaCanfora made a point to say we'd get him then the guy next to him said "But he's gonna have head coaching opportunities!" well yeah he is now that you said that!!!!!! Whoever our D coordinator is will need to upgrade our secondary, EricBerry??? The safeties need help as much as our oline, our line wasn't terrible every play JC made it look like that because he's slow.
How about Gregg Williams?
How about Gregg Williams?
HAIL
In addition to his son Kyle Shanahan being the Offensive Coordinator, which is confirmed, here are some other possibles:
Rick Dennison - OL (Broncos OL)
Mike Zimmer - DC (Cincy DC)
Jim Haslett - DC (UFL HC)
Bobby Turner - RB (Broncos RB)
Adam Zimmer - LB (Saints LB)
Bob Slowik - DC (former Broncos DC) (may come as a defensive position coach even if Zimmer or Haslett are hired)

The list is good with three exceptions.

Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

BS - there's a lot more going on with this guy than you realize - he has been highly regarded for a while now and he might want to get out - these media types especially like Wyche and Canfora have zero credibility
Whoever our D coordinator is will need to upgrade our secondary, Eric Berry??? The safeties need help as much as our oline, our line wasn't terrible every play JC made it look like that because he's slow.
actually the line did not look bad at times in the middle of the season because of what the play calling had Campbell doing
BUT let's be honest - the offensive line was terrible and needs a lot of help - a lot of fans here do not realize how long it takes to get an offensive line to play together and effectively run blocking or pass blocking
you cannot just draft players and add some FA linemen and then think that we'll have an offensive line again - this takes a lot of time because there is so much more to this part of a team
we are a year OR 2 away from having a line that can play effectively in the NFC East
How about Gregg Williams?
I'm sorry but that is either a really stupid suggestion or just a joke - please

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I'd REALLY like to add Alex Gibbs to that list as Assistant HC and OL coach, but I have seen no reports of this. For me, Alex Gibbs coming here would be the one thing that would actually have me believing Shanahan could turn things around. Without Gibbs, we would have huge question marks at OL and defense to go along with Shanhan's abysmal record in the draft and free agency.
We can hope Bruce Allen will keep Shanahan out of trouble in the draft and free agency, but Shanny has final say-so. But if I knew Gibbs was coming and would keep the OL and running game in the top of the league, I would breathe much easier.

Abysmal draft record??
If you look at their picks, the Broncos actually did pretty well when Shanahan was there. Just look at the 2006 draft, for example. The Broncos drafted 7 players, 6 of which were NFL starters this year. That list includes Brandon Marshall (4th round) and Elvis Dumervil (4th round), who had 17.5 sacks this year. Chris Kuper, who Shanahan drafted in the 5th round that year, has started 31 games at guard for the Broncos the last two years.
Sure, he's missed on some picks, but so does everybody. Belichik is considered a draft genius but look how poorly he has done the last few years.

Yeah, the draft is a crapshoot, but Shanny has been great at drafting offense, and now he's got a guy like Bruce Allen to help scout, crunch the numbers and make this team better. Here's some of Shanny's draft record:
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/t ... _draft.htm
And keep going backwards... Ryan Harris went on IR this season but he got some Pro Bowl buzz last season. 2006 he drafted 7 players, 6 who are starters (if not stars).
This guy can build an offense, on the defensive side, he can be a little shaky, but he did get John Lynch, he did draft DJ Williams, he did draft Elvis Dumervil and he did bend over the Redskins for Champ Bailey... he's the best personnel man we've had in 20 years and he has a good relationship with Snyder and Allen. This is great news for Redskins fans.

Not just his draft record, but his free agency record too. Hell, at one point, I think he had either traded or signed every former Cleveland Brown D-lineman! None of them ever did much. He had a rotating door of newly drafted RB's, including 3rd round pick Maurice Clarett
when no one else was expected to even consider him before the 5th round. Sure everyone misses, Shanny just missed more often.
Let's hope Bruce Allen can be a voice of reason the next time Shanny sees a reclamation project like Clarett and thinks of the headlines "Genius Shanahan develops player into star!".

I think we might see him with Weiss on the Chiefs sideline - Weiss and Crennel would have been an upgrade for us at OC and DC last season

I'm hoping for Zimmer or Haslett - I think we will have a pretty formidable group on the sidelines this season
I still am a little bit concerned about what will happen with Jerry Gray - something smells here

Look, I'm not saying Shanahan will torpedo the Redskins draft and free agent moves necessarily. I'm saying, if you take off the rose colored glasses for a minute and put aside the excitement of a new Head Coach, you'll see his personnel record is below average. (maybe "abysmal" was a little strong) On offense he has had some success and some failures with personnel decisions. Okay, you win some, you lose some. On defense, his decisions have been more often than not busts. You could argue the only really good defensive acquisitions Shanahan made were Dumervil, DJ Williams and trading for Champ. Dumervil didn't really break out until after Shanahan left and Champ required giving up his starting RB, Portis. You could also argue he's had trouble finding a starting RB ever since.
He made many mistakes with big name defensive free agents and high draft picks like Dwayne Robertson, Courtney Brown, Willie Middlebrooks, Dorsett Davis, Jarvis Moss, Marcus Thomas, Paul Toviessi, Lester Archambeau, Kavika Pittman, Daryl Gardener, Dale Carter, Boss Bailey and Niko Koutouvides, to name a few.
Here's an excerpt from a Denver writer in 2004.
He also seemed to have issues with defensive coordinators (likely related to their dismay at his personnel decisions). He fired Greg Robinson in 2000, then ran through Ray Rhodes, Coyer, Bates and Slowik in quick succession.

Let's hope he isn't too involved in designing our defense
or deciding what players to acquire on defense. I hope Bruce Allen and the DC have more say on those matters. They didn't in Denver and Shanahan has the same overall authority here in Washington as in Denver. So...Cross your fingers.

Predicting the draft of the Denver Broncos is a little simpler (than other teams).
Scan the college prospects. Look for players who have minimal experience playing football, guys who have outlandish injuries or the hardest of the hard-luck stories out there. Find those players, and you've found future Broncos.

He was not promised the DC position. But some people say that he was offered to be given "consideration" for the job by the HC. Danny was smart enough to not promise the position of DC for his useful services to meet the RR but I woud not be surprised if he stays in some capacity as pay back even if he does not land the DC job.

Wait, you mean the guy in charge of personnel might make a difference on what personnel we bring in?
Well, BA might not really be the one in charge of personnel. Mike did say he had the last word.

Redskins plan to meet with Haslett
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on January 8, 2010 12:55 PM ET
We first mentioned Wednesday that Jim Haslett could be a name to watch as a potential defensive coordinator in Washington.
NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora reports the Redskins indeed plan to meet with the former Saints and UFL head coach. The Redskins are also interested in Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.
Haslett reportedly wants to bring in former chiefs defensive line coach Tim Krumrie if he is running a defense. Players working under a Haslett/Krumrie combination should expect a lot of yelling coming their way.
Don't see a point in starting another thread b/c of one name out there and since this is about his potential staff, it applies.
I think that if we did hire Haslett and Krumrie, we would be more disciplined for sure but I can't say that some of the current players would be happy and also be tough. I could see Hall and Haynesworth rebelling against them.
I'm told that Zimmer is a player's coach so that may be a better way to go but I do like the idea of discipline which is what this team needs - just not going crazy.

Perhaps the Danny will need a consultant.

I heard Jerry Jones is going to hire him to help break the Cowboys 15 year streak w/o a playoff win.
