Josh Cribbs wants OUT of Cleveland....

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

So, do we pick him up? Too much money, you say? Danny has plenty of it.
Oh NO.....here we go again.

I'm usually against big names, but I want him in the worst way. With Cribbs, we could upgrade at least 2 (maybe 3 or 4) positions immediately. I know he hasn't really proved himself as a WR yet, but PR/KR/gunner/wildcat/direct snap whatever. With Cribbs on the roster, we can alleviate the need of ARE and Rock. He could be a sick slot receiver and possibly replace Moss. We know he has the ground skills...does he have the hands and route running is the question.

I've listened to a few interviews with him and he's really a levelheaded guy. He said some good things but in all honesty, I'm not sure I want us going after the guy. First of all, what do we have to give up? Someone's going to pay either a late 1st or an early 2nd. The Browns will use his agents argument on why he should be paid on teams who want him on why they should give up more to get him.

This guy has been your points scorer for a few years now. He's been a team player and he's one of the lowest paid players on your team. If giving him a decent contract is the way to not only hush this up but have him be really happy, then why not. B/c you will have to pay someone else to get that sort of production.

Let's let Shanny get HIS guys. Cribbs is incredible, but we have to move away from the tradition of overpaying players.

but it may be an uncapped year though, if we ever was to overpay someone, now is the time.. besides, if we did have him and he played as well with us as he's doing in CLE.. NO ONE WOULD SAY WE OVERPAID!!!!

Yeah, I guess I kinda hi-jacked this in to GM as opposed to ATL...my bad. I still want him here, though.

Keep in mind that ARE used to score TD's on special teams before he came here too. I'm neutral on this one.

Forget Cribbs, do you want Hester? We could use a draft pick or two! :D

See the problem is the Browns trying to determine how much to pay him. They offered him like 1.5m per year which is right in line with what ST guys get - see Rock's contract. he's going to make 1.5 next season.

He does score td's and gives your team great field position. Where they have a problem is that he doesn't offer that much on offense. I could see a team like Miami trading for him because he would be a huge assett to their Wildcat offense they run so well there - and keep in mind. I think he was a college QB.

That's mismanagement of skills then, b/c whenever that guy gets his hands on the ball, it's scary. Imagine if he actually had some offensive support <shudder>. He needs to get out of Cleveland and live up to his god-given gifts, b/c that buy is blessed.

Cribbs is great but he's getting traded at his peak value. It'd be foolish to chase, IMO, just like the Bears were incredibly foolish to lock in Hester just as he hit his peak value.

I like him. I like his on-field performance and I like his demeanor (from the little I've read). He's the kinda guy we need on this team.

Just like it was said before, he's at the top of his value and what happens most of the time - and the Redskins are experts is that we pay the guys a huge contract and then they chill out and never reach the numbers they did at their previous team b/c they were working toward a contract. I think about ARE, Lloyd, it early but I'm fearful about Haynesworth too. So I'll take a pass on him b/c call me crazy but I think Rock does a pretty good job on kickoffs as well as basically being the ST's leader on the field. He's not a home run threat - but he will rip a few to the 40 every year. I also think that Devin Thomas may be back there returning punts or even Tryon. Something to watch on this team along with where Cribbs will end up. The fan's are protesting to give Cribbs a new contract and ticking off the fan's isn't the way Holmgren will want to start his tenure there in Cleveland.

Sure, but for what price? I'm assuming you wouldn't be willing to trade a 1st, two 2nds, and pay him $6 mil a year, right? My point is that Cribbs will fetch more than he is worth on the market. The question is whether we are the team who gives it to him, or whether we pass and let someone else do so. But no matter who it is, someone will overpay.

Outstanding return-men almost never sustain their explosive success more than 2-3 years.

I'm not sure that any team is going to trade this year's first and two second's for him. While he is a dynamic player - there are very few that are worth that sort trade compensation.

If you look at his stat's, I would think he would generate a 2nd but that's about it. Sure he put's up big returns but in the grand scheme of things, I think he had 8 TDs this year. Well, on a weekly basis you would need more than that for a 1st and 2 seconds.

If I were a GM - I would offer a 2nd rd pick this year. He would be extended a contract around the 3m range and strictly use him in the ST's game and on certain gadget plays that we've worked up during the week to attach the opposing defense. I think that the Browns, being that they are still rebuilding would see the value with that and I think that's enough of a contract that he would be happy.

I think I read that his agent said he could work with 2.5m/yr. It's tough for me to judge compensation, so I don't know. I'm not trying ot trade the farm for him by any means. With us not having a 3rd and 6th already, I know it's even tougher to trade for someone who doesn't weigh over 290, but I still love watching that guy play and wouldn't mind seeing him in burgundy and gold in the coming years.

How about this - let's find a guy like that in the later rounds or as a FA who's fast and we can see what he can do. Then we get them on the cheap. I know it's a longshot but it's safer than bringing in another STAR who's going to get paid and have his production drop off. We've been burned too many times.

He wants a trade, I brought it up that I liked him. His specialty is one of our more serious deficiencies. You don't agree with it. I get it. It's highly speculative that another Joshua Cribbs will be found, and then even lower probability that WE get him in the later rounds.

I've already specificied in multiple threads that we need Oline 1st, but I like this flashy guy who said he could work for pretty cheap and I deviated in one thread expressing this fantasy thought.

We have no proven guys as PR and Rock is adeuate as KR. Other than Rock, we have no established ST returners on the roster that will be used (Hall and Moss are part timers at best). It's a need.

Sorry - I forgot to attach the whole smiley faced thing. I get what you are say fully and of course if we could get him with his current contract and say - in two year's you'll get paid, I'd love to have him.

I play in a fantasy league that awards players for ST yards. He was my #1 player. I love the guy personally but like you I do feel we need an upgrade on punt returns big time.

Sometimes I wonder if blocking would help. I really don't see Danny Smith staying this year. Our KO returns are decent. Average yd start at the 26 I believe which is up there but then you look at PR yds, FG's, Touchbacks, etc - we're close to the bottom of the barrel there. Maybe it's coaching or maybe personnel but we need a big upgrade there.

It was a made up number and extreme on purpose, to illustrate the point. ;)
