Yea I get all that...My problem is interveiwing a asst. of the current HC...did you catch the interveiw with Zorn when he was asked about it...It's just isn't right IMO.
Lavar, during his radio show today, ripped into Gray for accepting the interview. He said it was an unethical and backstabbing thing to do and that it would make it difficult for Gray to get his next job.
I totally agree I heard others say it as well...is Gray looking to stay on...I ask because yu know Snyder offered him something for it. Why not just wait until Zorn is gone...The only anwser to that is the next HC has already been hired.
Don't private companies do that all the time? Companies are always recruiting and keeping their eyes open for potential hires. When a company knows they're gonna fire someone, or are looking for a replacement, they will interview candidates while the position is still filled.
Why wouldn't a franchise worth $1 Billion do the same?
I don't think it was unethical for Gray to interview for the position. The way he went around trying to skirt the issue was handled improperly, though.
What's worse, his interviewing for the job or Zorn's delusion at thinking he has a shot at keeping his and/or speaking as though he will be a part of the offseason?

Well if it happens all the time and there's nothing wrong with it...why wasn't Zorn made aware of it??

As far as I've witnessed, companies RARELY tell the incumbent that they're interviewing their replacement.
Once they have the new person hired, they break the news to the incumbent.

When they come form the outside...I can see it...this was one of Zorn's staff...Just not a good way of doing business IMO...it underminds the HC! I'm sure they will be those who say he's gone anyway...fine fire him already and get on with it!

As for Gray - maybe he thought it was a practice interview for the Memphis job? And Danny pulled a fast one on him. Anyone think Danny isn't capable?
No way is he a legit candidate. Allen being hired is a sign that a big name is on the way. Sound like Mikey Slick.
Was a big Zorn fan heading into the season. But the man let his ego ruin him.
As HC he should have identified the problem with his play calling and hired a 'sherm Lewis' before Cerrato.
He screwed himself. But he won't when it comes to the money - everything he does and says now is done with the motivation to have his contract paid out.
Only a true idiot would resign and leave millions on the table. He's got an ego but he's also not a total moron.

Would you resign if Snyder threw another half mil in

But then there's the Rooney Rule, which the NFL first invoked in 2003 when the lack of black coaches in a league dominated by black players began to become an embarrassment. Coincidence or not, there are now six African American head coaches (not counting Buffalo's interim coach Perry Fewell ) and two of the last three Super Bowl champions were coached by blacks.
This Story Campbell's uncertainty is certain Fletcher philosphical about Pro Bowl vote Having a Rooney Rule doesn't mean that every team that has an opening must seriously consider an African American, especially if someone like Shanahan is available.
Having said that, the Redskins have made a mockery of the rule with Gray's "interview." To begin with, is there anything they won't do to humiliate Zorn, who has tried so hard to be a stand-up guy throughout this entire debacle? They couldn't wait until next week to go through the formality of interviewing Gray and then name Shanahan the coach on Wednesday or Thursday instead of Monday or Tuesday?
Then they forgot to brief Gray on how to handle the situation. When he was asked if he had interviewed for the job he initially said "no," forcing the team to put out a statement saying that Gray meant to say, "no comment." When in history has anyone had to put out a statement claiming someone was saying, "no comment" in answer to a yes-or-no question?
What's more remarkable is the willingness of both the NFL and the Fritz Pollard Alliance to play this silly game with the Redskins.
Shanahan is going to coach the Redskins. That's all well and good. But the Rooney Rule, even in an instance where it isn't going to produce a minority hire, should not be treated as a joke. There was no way Snyder was going to hire another coach who isn't even working at the coordinator level -- whether he be black, white, green or blue -- to follow Zorn. There are plenty of guys, minority and non-minority, who could have been interviewed next Monday and Tuesday before the surprise announcement that Shanahan was the new coach.
But the Redskins, as we know, always do things "the Redskins Way." The saddest part of that -- besides the on-field record and the off-field embarrassments -- is that the NFL won't do anything to stop the madness.

as you know I'm not a Dan Snyder fan - I do hope that he's removed himself from the player and coaches decisions here - I want to think that Bruce Allen is making all of the decisions here - Zorn may be gone immediately after the season, but I surely hope it is handled by NFL people and not a clown like Snyder
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Too late..if we are to believe the report and people here...Snyder (not Allen) has already hired Shanahan...Of course it will be Allen who fires Zorn and appears to hire Shanahan

Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reported that Snyder asked John Lynch this past offseason to tell him everything about Shanahan IN FRONT OF ZORN. And apparently Zorn gave Lynch a look of "Go ahead I'm used to it" and Glazer also said that Snyder offered the job to Shanahan before the 09' season but that Shanahan said "no, you've got to give Zorn another year"
For the life of me...I can't understand why (after the horrible press this year) DS would conduct the new seach for a HC this way...just one more thing for the press to beat him up over. I mean how hard is it to wait until the season ends and at least give the impression that 1. Allen is calling the shots not DS and 2. Give the RR a bit more respect than a token interview with Gray.
Redskins owner Daniel Snyder and Fritz Pollard Alliance chairman John Wooten have made a mockery of the NFL’s Rooney Rule, the law that stipulates teams must interview a minority candidate for head coach and general manager.
According to all reports, Snyder wants to hire former Broncos coach Mike Shanahan to replace Jim Zorn. It makes sense. John Elway left Shanahan with an impressive resume. What doesn’t make sense is Snyder’s unwillingness to fire Zorn before conducting his search.
To cover up this bit of stupidity, Snyder and/or one of his flunkies got Andrea Kremer and Chris Mortensen to ignore common sense and report that Washington defensive backs coach Jerry Gray, who is black, interviewed to be Zorn’s successor.
Again, Zorn has yet to be fired. I doubt that a member of Zorn’s coaching staff would interview for the job while Zorn is still the coach. Plus, even if Gray and/or defensive coordinator Greg Blache did interview to be Zorn’s successor, Kremer and Mortensen should recognize the sham/token interviews for what they are -- circumvention of the Rooney Rule.
Thankfully, an aggressive TV reporter out of Denver, Josina Anderson, and my boy Mike Florio over at Profootballtalk.com called B.S. on the charade. Now everyone, including a reporter at The Washington Post, is backtracking and trying to get their stories straight.
Look, Snyder is a spoiled billionaire who makes up the rules as he sees fit. He’s stayed in character. Wooten is the bad guy in all of this. He’s supposed to be looking out for minority job candidates and he vouched for the “token” interview of Gray.
That’s probably because at age 73 Wooten is a token himself. He’s chairman of the Fritz Pollard Alliance because he can be easily manipulated by commissioner Roger Goodell, who left it to Wooten to determine the legitimacy of Gray’s “interview.”
The Frtiz Pollard Alliance no longer has any credibility and should be disbanded. Or maybe the organization should try a different name, House Negroes Alliance.
The Rooney Rule may have outlived its usefulness as it relates to coaching. There are currently seven black NFL head coaches (20 percent). The rule certainly needs to be tweaked. Rather than requiring owners to interview a minority coaching candidate whenever a job becomes available, maybe the league should require all of its owners and team presidents/general managers to spend a day and evening with minority coaches at the annual owners meetings.

No. And the Rooney Rule is just another insulting, dishonest act of political correctness, IMHO.
I don't believe there is institutional racism in modern day NFL. Surely there was, but at this point, owners are obsessed with only two things ... revenue and winning. Whoever they believe provides the best opportunity to capitalize on revenue and wins, gets the job ... White, Black, Purple, Pink ... OK maybe not pink
