Confirmed by Kevin Sheehan @ Redskins Park.
Hallelujah
but hold on - did we really lose Cerrato, or, is he still here, helping his buddy Snyder?
this is like here today and gone tomorrow in reverse
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
My understanding on Allen and his time in TB is that when he was brought in, he was in cap hell. He managed to fix the cap but there were huge restrictions placed on him by ownership where even if the cap were say $100m, he could only spend say $80m.

That's my understanding, as well... he then took the hit for the owner's cheapness.
If Snyder has demonstrated anything, it is that he will not be pinching pennys. If Allen doesn't succeed, it's won't be because the owner was too cheap to spend.

On 106.7 last night they were saying that the Skins are also looking to bring in a personnel guy to work with Allen. One of the names mentioned was Doug Williams. Apparently Allen is very good with the cap, but not as great on talent evaluation and general personnel matters.
Wow! You and Jason Campbell seem to have found your Mojo's together...

, now the cap is like speed limits in Montana to him...

I'm with ya all the way amigo. That would surely be a change for the better as I see it. They do have quite a history of working together....
If Gruden gets hired, that would be one of the greatest agent moves EVER. First off, you have to know that Gruden does not have an out clause...which is very typical of contracts you sign in my business. You can get out of them if you pays the money back to the company to which you signed (in this case ABC/ESPN). So the agent comes in and is like, lets sign a contract with no out clause so that if Snyder (or any team) wants to sign you, they will have to pay you A) a salary that is much greater than the one you just signed B) a signing bonus and C) pay off the old contract. He is in a total leverage position and can sit back and say...How bad do you want me? Then pay up sucka. And if teams don't, well you're sitting pretty with a long term cush job.
Miss you 21

Yeah he did a great job cleaning up the mess Mckay left that team with. Allen now has a owner who is willing to spend the money, while it may not always be in the best way. It shows he wants to compete.
- George Allen took the Redskins to the playoffs for the first time in my 23 year old lifetime.
- If I had to pick a coach for one game, it would either be Old George of Joe Gibbs. In fact, if the Redskins had to be out-manned by some favored glamor team, like the Cowboys, I would probably pick George.
- We watched the Allen boys grow up with the team. How many modern general managers must have played catch with Sonny Jurgensen and Charley Taylor?
- Meanwhile 30 years later, Bruce Allen has proven himself at Oakland and Tampa. He is a real GM. The Snyder-Skins need that.
- Whoever Allen chooses to be head coach, it will be an improvement. Gruden? OK. Shanahan? OK. Even one more year of Zorn, who seems to be learning from his ordeal.
Shanahan as coach would be a great personnel man on the offensive side of the ball. Defensively we'd need someone else, and I would love the addition of Doug Williams

Word is new regime in TB is on the way and Doug Williams will be available... even if they wanted to keep him all we have to do is offer him a better job and he's free to accept.
If Allen wants him, Williams is coming.

Peter King, Football Night in America: "Well, I talked to Dan Snyder, the owner of the Redskins the other day, and I asked him point blank. I said, 'Listen, who's making this decision, you or your new general manager Bruce Allen?' And he basically said to me, 'Absolutely, Bruce is gonna make the decision.' And I know people out there are saying, Bruce Allen? I mean, this is Dan Snyder's team. But Dan Snyder believes he's made a ton of mistakes in the last 10 years, and he's finally owning up to it and hiring a guy who I believe yes, will hire Mike Shanahan when the dust settles in January."
Straight from Snyder's mouth...we'll see if it's actually true in time.
Pat Kirwan, CBSSPorts.com: "I think it's gonna get done rather quickly. Although Jim Zorn is still the head coach, I don't believe Mike Shanahan is gonna want to accept that job if Jim is still under contract, so I think you've got to clear the deck. And most coaches that I know would not take a job until the head coach was gone. So it's a little bit of a formality, because we all know Jimmy's gone, but it's still important to coaches in the profession not to do that....I like [Shanahan] a lot, [working] with Bruce. I didn't know how it would be if it was direct with Dan, but Bruce has tremendous personal skills to be the guy in between Dan and Mike Shanahan, and Bruce has a very good reputation as being a guy who wants to help the coach. He's not a GM-type who wants to run the show; he's there to service the coach and make sure he has the players and coaches he needs. And Bruce will clean up those contracts to make sure that those guys in the future have the space they need to go get what they want."
I think we gathered at the Bruce Allen/GM announcement that Snyder was looking to set up a group here to manage the franchise - I was given the impression that this franchise was (according to Snyder and Bruce Allen) going to have a very formidable FO from here on out
In my opinion, I think that Shanahan as President and maybe HC might be a good start - I'm not sure what we do if we try and bring in Gruden as HC because he's not going to be able to be both
That all being said it's almost impossible to believe that Snyder will give up complete control here and that is my only concern - I am just nervous after all his wheeling and dealing over the past 10 years and especially after how he's treated Zorn this year, that that snake is up to something and he will not let go
that is all down the road some - right now i'm really looking for this team to win this game and then the next 2 - that will really make me very happy and I'm sure spoil the draft party for all those hoping for a top 10 pick
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
Anyone else see Bruce Allen on ESPN pregame saying that he has full control of football operations? If that holds to be fully true, I am more optimistic about what can happen (positively) to this team.
sounds good to me - we obviously need all the help we can get
what we are looking at right now is the result of Snyder & Cerrato putting a team together they felt that this team was a playoff contender
this franchise is a joke and an embarrassment from the top down
please let it go Danny, you need to give these guys the authority to make the necessary changes here

I think the chaos this week was a big part of the reason we tanked this game. No one gave much effort knowing Zorn is a lame duck coach. Except the losing to the division rival, this actually doesn't hurt me so badly. We are playing for draft position next season, and 4-12 is better for the franchise in the long run. I do hope we can knock off the Pies next week, just to kill their playoff hopes, though.

They are asking Brian if Danny will really step back.
Brian says that he would not understand Bruce Allen accepting without prior negotiation and acceptance of this condition: Full control for Bruce, he thinks.

Gruden and Allen were fired together at Tampa Bay. I don't think Allen is a good choice. He played college football, but only as a punter. His stint at Tampa Bay wasn't particularly impressive and before then worked in a minor position at Oakland. He doesn't really have much in the way of credentials. This is something of a career saver for him. He's on the fringe.
