Giants keep taking hits in secondary
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on December 18, 2009 7:52 PM ET
The struggling Giants secondary is going from bad to worse this week.

The team's top cornerback Corey Webster hasn't practiced because of a knee injury and is uncertain to face the Redskins Monday night. To replace Webster, the Giants were planning to move Aaron Ross back from safety to cornerback.

Now Ross is hurt too. Ross suffered a hamstring injury for the fourth time this year at practice Thursday, and sat out Friday's session.

If they both miss the game, Terrell Thomas, rookie Bruce Johnson and Kevin Dockery (remember him?) will be New York's top trio.

Jason Campbell has averaged 269 passing yards over this last four games, with seven touchdowns and four interceptions. Don't be surprised if that average improves Monday night.

And don't be surprised if a seven-loss team gets into the NFC playoffs. (We're going to keep hammering this point until we're right.)

I have JC & Rogers for my fantasy QB's this week. I have no clue who to start. Someone help b/c both are going to have good games.

We've competed and stayed with good teams. The state of affairs the Giants are currently in, I don't think they are that tough currently.

Well, the NFC East teams are a bit different.

For those who thought we had anything close resembling an Offensive Line ... You got your answer today.

For those of you who thought that Jason had really improved in speed, mechanics and accuracy ... you got your answer today.

For those of you who thought that keeping Zorn for another season might be a good idea ... you got your answer today.

This is the WORST performance by a Washington Redskins team in my entire living memory as a fan.

What an EMBARRASSMENT in front of a National (and international audience).

I am ashamed.

Brandon Jacobs is a thug and should have been ejected. He should get the biggest fine of any player on the field, but the league office will want to back up their officials... so expect them to go light on Jacobs.

All in all, this game is embarrassing. The Giants are not having a great season, but they are dismantling the Redskins. No pass protection, the running game is a joke and the defense SUCKS.

I'm surprised though, Jason Campbell is one tough SOB, the team follows him as the unquestioned leader and I'm convinced that with some protection he'd be a star in the NFL.

Jacobs threw one punch and was involved in the initial scuffle. It was Haynesworth that came in later and threw punches at TWO different lineman. I like the fire, but he showed ZERO discipline. ZERO. They both should have been ejected.
...any given Sunday....

RIP #21 Sean Taylor. You will be loved and adored by Redskins fans forever!!!!!

If by any stretch of the imagination anybody is suggesting that Albert did ANYTHING wrong yesterday, I want NO PART OF IT.

This is the ONLY guy who comes with enough intensity to stand for his fellow players and some people question it???

Hell, this was one of the FEW signs that we still had a team on the field yesterday.

I want 53 Albert Haynesworths (in all shapes and sizes though) in my team.

So you condone actual fighting on the field? This isn't rugby, it's American football. There's no place for fighting on the field. Especially when Haynesworth wasn't involved on the initial altercation and the guys he threw punches at weren't, either.

And I like how you take that quote out of context.

I saw a Big guy picking on a lil guy and our big guy comes to the rescue. I saw Fat Al throw slaps, I saw Jacobs throw punches. I commend Fat Al for coming to the rescue and asserting himself in that situation. It was a bad, bad situation but honestly it could've been a lot worse. Fat Al is the man. He was surrounded by white jerseys, he was swing slaps to keep them back.

I agree Vet it was ugly and it spilled over into the stands...The NFL has got to get a handle on fan conduct.

Hallelujah!!!

Angelo was ONTHE DARN FLOOR already! Jacobs is still throwing several punches to other players and you expect Albert or any other self-respecting player to stand and watch?

YOU STAND BY YOUR TEAM !!!

Repeat after me ...

RIGHT OR WRONG ... YOU STAND BY YOUR TEAM !!!

But some here do not get it.

What should the NFL address:

1) That the Giants came fired up and gave us a spanking?

2) That they taunted the audience in OUR house?

3) That they taunted and mocked our players in several ways throughout the entire game?

4) That we were uncapable of fielding a worthy opponent on both sides of the field?

They needed a big win to keep their hopes alive and came prepared for a fight. We went in unprepared, outcoached and "medium".

Look people, in this league YOU EARN RESPECT. YOU MAKE THEM RESPECT YOUR PLAYERS AND YOUR FANS.

You do not "negotiate" respect. You do not go running to the NFL to whine about the lack of any RESPECT. :explode:

What are the rules there for, then? Throwing punches on the field? I can't believe you actually support that. I don't care if it's Dexter Manley taking out Emmit Smith AND Troy Aikman simultaneously...it's unacceptable. PERIOD.

I understand the respect, but you have to adhere to the guidelines.

What rules and guidelines?

The game was out of the hands of the officials already. Did you ever see a flag thrown for taunting by the Giants? They taunted the fans, the players, the entire bench for Gods sake!!!

They beat us on the field and I can take that. But in addition, they HUMILIATE our players and our fans ... and you are surprised that a fight breaks on the field ... an UNEVEN fight at that.

And is still anybody surprised that Albert defends whatever pride he has left?

Man, you guys do not know me. That game was out of control on the field and on the stands for A LONG TIME before that fight took place.

I do not go to the Stadium for a fight. I hate them. But if somebody bigger picks a fight with a smaller friend of mine ... we are in it TOGETHER no matter if it is right or wrong!

I don't think anyone is suggesting that players throwing punches at each other is acceptable - at the same time, players are always trying to punch and hit other players without being caught - we often hear that a team is not intense enough and this team in B&G has shown that too often - I had no problem with Haynesworth protecting other members of the team but I do have a big problem with the refs not seeing anything from the other team last night - Jacobs especially was obviously throwing punches and should have been caught also by one of those officials

I just cannot stand the giants but I especially do not like the fact that we showed little intensity at all aginst this team - they are not that much better than this sorry group in B&G and we made them look really good

just a terrible display of football
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Never hold yourself to others' standards.

There's always fights at the games. You can't get 91K people together with alcohol and expect there not to be. It still doesn't make it right.

I'm not saying Fat Al shouldn't have done anything, but damn, if he was gonna hit someone, it shoulda been Jacobs, not the lineman who weren't even involved initially.
