Man, first of all I am SO excited by this. Finally we have cleared the way for a new regime. Even though I'm sure I'll be alone in this, I wish Vinny luck in his next job. Vinny is very good as part of a team. As a director of college scouting, he was excellent... and I hope I can find another job.

Let's all pray that Snyder is burning his puppet strings and simply isn't just bringing in someone else willing to get "hooked up."

well that explains some of the posts .... maybe
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance

Here's the absolutely low-class statement VC made in the club's press release:

“We agreed that the franchise needs someone different in this position,” Cerrato said. “I’m thankful to Dan Snyder and other members of his ownership team for the opportunities I’ve been given over the years.”

“Of course, I am disappointed with this year’s results, but I strongly believe that with outstanding draft picks and encouraging performance by our younger players, we have laid a strong foundation for the franchise.”

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with some great coaches such as Joe Gibbs, Greg Blache and Sherman Lewis, great people on the Redskins staff, and, most especially, some of the best professional football players in the world. I wish them all the best. I’ve also had the privilege of working for a franchise supported by the most loyal fans in the NFL.”

Gee, Vin, no mention of Zorn? You really leave with your head tucked in shame and tail between your legs.

Don't go away angry, just go away!

but who is in favor of brining in Holmgren and letting Zorn stay as HC? if that happens, what are the chances Sherm Lewis is not here next year, and we revert to the same style offense of before with Zorn calling plays???

Both Holmgren and Shanahan have questionable results as personnel guys.

They're probably exhibits A & B for the argument that the "uber-coach" (GM and coach) doesn't work in today's NFL.

I will just approach this cautiously and hope for the best.

I would be in favor of Snyder bringing in Joe Gibbs to help find a GM and maybe a coach - I'm not sure that Gibbs would want to be a GM but he might be interested in coming in and helping Snyder get this franchise back on track - Snyder and Gibbs are reportedly still in touch

Oh well, typo aside...

Shanahan was an excellent personnel guy. On the defensive side he was lacking, but the guy built some amazing offenses. Holmgren was decent as a GM, but if he were to focus on just one job, he'd do fine. I like either option.

Redskins chasing Bruce Allen

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... uce-allen/

Report: Redskins chasing Bruce Allen
Posted by Mike Florio on December 17, 2009 9:17 AM ET
Wow.

On the same morning that executive V.P. of football operations Vinny Cerrato has resigned, triggering speculation that Mike Holmgren or Mike Shanahan could be taking the reins of the Redskins, Jay Glazer of FOX has dropped a bomb on us, baby.

Glazer reports that Redskins coaches were advised today that the teams is in talks with former Raiders and Buccaneers executive Bruce Allen.

Allen's father, George, was one of the most beloved coaches in franchise history not named "Joe Gibbs."

As Glazer points out, the Redskins would be required to satisfy the Rooney Rule when filling the top front-office position. In this case, either the Redskins already have quietly satisfied the requirement, or Allen would be hired for a position that does not presently require compliance with the Rooney Rule.

The arrival of Allen undoubtedly would trigger speculation that the next move would be to dump coach Jim Zorn and pursue Jon Gruden, who partnered with Allen both in Oakland and Tampa.

Its a foxsports headline too.....

Bring back Marty! This is truly shocking news and it has made my day! aaaaaaaaaaahahahahahaha

Seriously though, is it possible that Snyder listened to the fans? Was he scared that his empire was crumbling? I hope to God this is a sign of FO restructuring and Snyder gets his hands out of the football operations. He needs a strong person to tell him to shut up and go away and let me handle the football side of things.

Thanks Vinny…you did your job extremely well…the problem is (I Hope) that now DS want to actually let a GM make the decisions for this franchise and the new guy (remember Marty) wasn’t going to allow you to do that…I’m quite sure you’re being compensated well and I’m sure DS doesn’t want you to take another job because we all know Vinny 3.0 is just around the corner.

In a related story It’s being reported that DS hit a tree with his Escalade and Vinny used his racquetball racquet to bust out the window and help him…TMZ is saying Vinny found text messages from another GM on DS phone!!

In all seriousness this is a good first move by DS because Vinny should be the first one gone. Even though I never will believe Vinny made one decision for this franchise his resigning (hopefully) is signaling DS willingness to turn this franchise over to a GM with some football experience.

I love how he says "I've had the pleasure of working with some great coaches such as Joe Gibbs, Greg Blache and Sherman Lewis, great people on the Redskins staff, and most especially, some of the best professional football players in the world."

Nice to leave out some of the better coaches you've worked with like Marty and Jim Zorn - show's how strained their relationship was.

Agreed 100% DEHog (as usual!). I won't throw the wet blanket on today's news and say much about my skepticism regarding DS. We can only hope that he's learned some lessons and is truly trying to take positive steps. At least for today it seems like he's making a genuine effort to do so.
