Shipping Portis OUTTA here.....

Post by tribeofjudah »

Hey look, ya'll....

Portis is the most productive RB in Skins history (I think?)...But I predict that we ship him out of here in the off season. I just don't see him being here in 2010.

na na na na, na na na na....hey heyay....GOOD BYE....!!!

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 04549.html

I like Portis.... this is just the nature of playing in the NFL.

thanks - be kind of interesting (not really) to see how you treat players you don't like
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Clinton Portis will not be with us next season:

I think Mr. [Daniel] Snyder [the team's owner], with the pressure that's on him with the organization, [is] probably going to have to make changes. For everything that [goes] on, I'm to blame, so why wouldn't I be the change?"

"Mr. Snyder" has a few scapegoats ... Suisham, Portis, Campbell, Zorn ...

... never himself or Vinny. :explode:

"I feel like whether he [is] here or not, I would love to come back to this team, but that choice isn't mine," Portis said. "I think Coach Zorn would love to be here as well, but that choice isn't his. So I think you see guys going out and playing for Coach Zorn, guys giving everything they got. Whether he [is] here, whether I'm here, I think this organization [has] got to do what's best for them. Me and Coach Zorn and whoever else have got to leave this organization got to know we got another opportunity to continue our career, and hopefully it works out on that end."

Zorn and Clinton already KNOW they will not be here next season.

It is uncertain whether Clinton will be able to regain his full health after such a serious concussion. Apparently, the damaga was more serious than originally expected.

If he regains his health, he could be a GREAT acquisition to a team which really only needs one more piece to win a Superbowl.

"I think the way I [have] been portrayed was like I was selfish," Portis said. "I [have] never been selfish. I don't think there's nobody around that can say I'm selfish. I think I went out and gave everything I had on Sunday.

YES, Clinton you have gave it everything you had. And for that, the Washington Redskins fans will always be GRATEFUL.

A very sad day for me, which confirms the info floating around from several sources.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

"Firesuit On" I think Portis is not done here. I think we can squeeze one more year out of him. Give the new guy Ganther half next year's season to develop some more. CP26 gave us everything he had, this season I think he was playing hurt because there is no way, no way that he has gotten that slow. He didn't have the burst. I think he deserves 1 more season at B&G.

Cp is the best running back the Skins ever had. Riggins had The Hogs to block for him, while CP has had a patchwork line since the day he arrived. For every THNer that thinks Ganther is some sort of answer at RB. 3 words.... You are wrong. There is a reason guys are unemployed by the NFL, it's beacuse there are better options. I hope CP is still around next year but I would love to have Jahvid Best here.

CP you are a tough SOB. A real football player, and if I have seen your last game as Redskin I will be saddened but also thankful for having had the opportunity to watch you perform for my beloved team on Sundays.

I've got nothing against Portis, but I think he's just too banged up.

He's got knee (tendonitus) and ankle (bone spurs) problems, and while I have no doubts as to his toughness and desire to get out there and play, you gotta admit that he isn't hitting the holes as quickly as he did when he was 100%. These problems are not going to get better with age.

I'm not ready to crown Ganther as his successor, but you gotta admit, the kid hits the holes a lot quicker than Portis was earlier in the season and he's not falling down on initial contact.

If Portis goes, he should take Thomas and Moss and maybe Randle-el with him. Love these guys, but I think it may be their time.

If 2010 goes uncapped, this may be a prime opportunity to unload a lot of contracts that would otherwise be protected by negative salary cap implications.

Just have to be realistic about RBs. Look at Edgerrin James, Emmitt Smith, Eddie George, Shaun Alexander. All of these stud running backs in their day, but found themselves in the same position as Portis.

Ganther couldn't hold a candle to Portis in his prime. It just seems with RBs that when the injuries start to add up, teams are better off going with the healthy, younger guy.

As an individual player Portis was great. But for all those statistics, he was never much of a leader or a team player, and he could never carry the team or provide the spark that would break the downward spiral in the bad years. I don't care how good you are on the field, you cannot make your own rules about when to practice -- it's bad for morale. Portis was a prankster and a comedian, which is fine as long as someone else is providing enough leadership to win. When the team is not winning, I don't want the star running back to be relaxed and loose. I want him to be focused and disciplined, and pushing other to be focused and disciplined. If a "great" player like Portis cannot turn the team into a winner, he will never be remembered when he is gone . . . .

I agree about the possibilities in an uncapped year. I think Samuels will retire & Randy Thomas will be next years Jansen. I expect a major overhaul on O.

I hope Portis stays for 2 reasons.

1. I appreciate him as a player, he can still play. Hopefully he'll take a pay cut, doubtful tho.

2. To piss off the haters and detractors. Nothing would satisfy me more.

http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=%22clinton+portis%22+guaranteed+2010

Portis is guaranteed $6.4 million dollars next year, and the only way he doesn't get it is if he retires.

Unless Bruce Allen can convince Snyder that Portis isn't worth the $800k or so he's scheduled, but not guaranteed, to be paid in 2010, he's not going anywhere.

I'd really like to see him here too - regarding the pay cut: how much do you think he should be paid

One of the skills that I'd expect a decent GM to bring to the table is the ability to recognise when a high priced ageing veteran is on the way down the wrong side of the hill, and past his physical peak, making him ripe for replacement with a much cheaper, younger option.

Now, I'm not a competent GM, so I wouldn't dream of stating categorically that Portis fits into that category, but if Allen judges that he does, I'd expect him to be moved out just as soon as the rules of salary cap management allow.
