GOTTA like that Ricky Williams.....

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

GOTTA like that Ricky Williams.....

Post by tribeofjudah »

Say what you will about Ricky, he is quite the humble leader. Yes, he messed up the first time with the Saints. Yes, he ended up in the CFL...

But look at him NOW.... he stated on NFLnet, "I really was more comfortable in a back up role.... I'd much rather be the guy behind the scenes."

Wow, maybe all that Cannabis actually made him younger, better, stronger....? Maybe it's the Zen, Yoga meditation.

Say what you will: I LIKE Ricky Williams.

Smoking that much pot will make you want to be in a backup role.

I have no problem with Ricky Williams - he really let himself down - what a waste - he obviously doesn't care but then he obviously doesn't have many brain cells left and is not as motivated as most
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

well he cares but you could hardly say that you don't see any effects of the drug abuse - this guy is a good example of what happens when you think that drugs don't have any effect on what you do - he could be so much more - just a waste - but a happy waste

I don't think he is a waste at all. He is happy, content, rich, grounded and is helping his team win. What's wrong with that. Does every football player have to be like a Marine?

I have no problem with you thinking that people that put drugs before their families and their jobs are not wasting quality time - I also have no problem with you thinking that anyone who takes drugs is just as clear thinking and makes the same quality decisions as those that do not

this world would be a boring place if everyone thought the same and made the same decisions - we need people to get wasted, it's entertaining to read about all the things that happen to them and that they do to their families and to each other - hopefully, they don't hurt other members of their family or the public but I guess stuff just happens

after all, we all would be much better off doing dope like Ricky - I mean it's not that expensive and who really cares .....

why do they call it dope when it makes you feel so goooood?

What the hell? By just 5 minutes of research about Ricky Williams, I can see he's a waste of air in society  .

Let's see, social anxiety disorder that he's had therapy and medication for. Self proclamation that marijuana was better for his disorder than Rx meds. Vegetarian, PETA supporter.

Williams is a qualified yoga instructor. He has stated that one of his main reasons for joining the Canadian Football League's Toronto Argonauts was for the opportunity to teach free yoga lessons at a local Toronto yoga facility. He is a confirmed Hindu.

Yup, sure sounds like a bastard to me. DAMN HIM TO HELL. Vick who? THIS GUY needs to go down.

^^^^^

Wow SkinsJock...there are some DEEP rooted things there. Tell us how your really feel....?

In the words of Bob Marley: Legalize IT.

But I quit drugs back in the 80's. For me, life is better without it.

Ricky just loves the Cannibis. I don't think he does other drugs. Besides, he's been CLEAN as of late.........right...?

I think that anyone that thinks that people are not adversely affected by drug abuse is most likely trying to say that the drugs that they themselves abused never really hurt them or affected their productivity

Ricky Williams was abusing drugs and in my opinion that is a waste

Doing (or using) drugs is DUMB - abusing drugs is a waste and stupid

Marijuana hardly effects you if kept in moderation, there is a difference between abusing and using you realize? There are a lot more legally prescriped drugs that do much more harm then marijuana. Side effects: Happy, hungry, sleepy.

Marijuana has alot of medicinal qualities and if it helped him keep his anxiety disorder in check why not?

He was hardly a waste when on the drugs and is hardly a waste now, the prejudice against marijuana user IMHO is unfounded.

Legalize it :celebrate:

just a matter of opinion but ...

anyone that abuses drugs or thinks that anyone that abuses drugs is not really damaging themselves and others around them is just stupid and a huge waste of a lot of time and money - I'm not prejudiced against marijuana use, I'm all for putting anyone that sells it (or abuses drugs) in jail for a very long time

Curious, have you ever done drugs of any sort? I'm assuming not which is perfectly fine in itself but smoking a joint here and there hardly damages yourself and those people around you. Why do you think this? Just wondering?

Obviously SkinsJock grew up in a much different world than I did, not that its a bad thing. However, IMO, not everyone that touches "drugs" (don't know if i would label pot a drug) is a bad person. R. Williams was a young man who had some issues and went about solving them (or trying to solve them) a different way than some..big deal. I really don't think smoking weed had an effect on his playing ability now, unless he got lazy, ate way too much, got fat, and completely forgot how to play, which doesn't seem to be the case. Sure it effected his playing ability then, mostly because it got him into trouble w/ the team and the league.

I arrived in the USA in 1970 - first stop, after a few months, was Maryland and the "2-4-6-8 - who do we appreciate" stuff - fun to be here as an Aussie after being in 'Nam - we did a lot of dope in those days - some could handle it - I was a mess - great entertainment for everyone else but I just did not really enjoy being out of control - then came the cocaine - hey! I'm lucky, just loved the stuff but did not need it to have a good time - had friends going down all around me - never really got into it - we all were partying a lot in DC, Clydes, The Child Harolde, TGIF, everywhere - we all did a lot of cocaine from the late 70s into the 80s

I have done just about everything - I don't care about the stuff, but, if you're a big time athlete and you've got everything going for you, in my opinion, you do not need this stuff - JUST SAY NO - and if you can't - take the hit for being a dumb-ass fool

Ricky Williams and all the other great athletes that let everybody down because of drugs should be ridiculed for being weak - you had a choice, you made the wrong choice, own up to it - don't be trying to say you did not know what you were doing - you are wasting your breath

it is really a shame when these guys get to be the man, in so many cases they just cannot handle the reality - think of how great Len Bias would have been if he had just said no! that is a tragedy and Ricky is very close

Do you feel the same way about alcohol? If not, I'd say you are absolutely prejudiced against marijuana, due to it's arbitrarily criminalized status.

And after the previous post detailing your own drug history, I'm sure that tomorrow you'll be turning yourself in at your local police station to begin serving that very long prison sentence.

Ricky never did that, though, SJ. From his own account, he did it b/c the social anxiety Rx had mnroe side effects than marijuana did, and he did it on his own accord. He never denied it, and to this day, he still doesn't regret the decision. He's not moved on to other drugs that I've read, and has a very stable life as of late.

From my impression, he's not the party animal that you're portraying. He self medicated, knowing the risks, and still stands behind his previous choices.

where are you coming from - what does "arbitrarily criminal status" of marijuana have to do with anything - I am against alcohol abuse and drug abuse - I no longer use drugs but I still enjoy beer and wine and the occassional martini - I'm surprised that you think that someone who drinks and used to do drugs should feel a civic resposibility to "turn myself in" - to what purpose? - I never, ever, bought marijuana or cocaine because I was not all that into the effects of either - no big deal, certainly not worth giving anyone money for - I don't know anyone that sells drugs and never met anyone that I knew sold drugs - I guess I'm just very conservative about drugs and do not feel that marijuana should be legalized any more than it presently is for medical reasons

anyway - this thread is not about drugs - this is about Ricky Williams - Ricky Williams, in my opinion, abused drugs and was addicted - he may or may not be recovered, hopefully so, more power to him, BUT he wasted a part of his life and he let himself down

maybe it's just me but there's a difference in the meaning of abuse and use where it applies to alcohol and drugs

I hear you Vet - it may very well have been reported incorrectly (as it mostly is) but it seemed to me that his behaviour and priorities were screwed up by drugs and I thought he had no control over that - if he did really have control over it then my opinon is changed, thanks

I used to be a big fan and at this time I'm very hopeful that he is recovered from it all - he just cannot get that part of his life back

I'm with ya SJ. I have personal experiences with my family and drug abuse, but the little I read, he didn't fit the stereotypical persona of a drug abuser.

The thing we can look at now is that he's clean and sober (if he couldn't pass a test, then he wouldn't be here, and I'm sure Goodell would ban him for life if he comes up hot again) and got his life back on track. A lot of abusers can't even claim that.
