2010 Draft Strategy

Post by CoonDawg47 »

Personally I think the Skins need to trade whatever it takes (save obviously for young talent) to get ANOTHER top half of the 1st Round selection (I don't care if its Santana Moss, Clinton Portis, AND Fred Davis) and draft the best available OT with our highest pick, and the best available QB with the next. There will be plenty of teams looking to trade down, Dan doesn't mind spending the money, so why not do it? It's obvious they are both positions of GREAT need, its obvious that we need SERIOUS change. Who's with me?

I absolutely agree.

I've been saying, we need to trade a player to get another pick and to get something of value requires you to give up something of value. We need a QB and OT badly...trading Cooley could allow us to get one of these positions.

I even think he might be what the Jets would love to have...another weapon for Mark Franchise. The Jets will be picking middle of the 1st round and we seem to trade with them more than anyone else.

I believe, a pass catching TE is NOT a must have position - look at the Patriots. We have two good ones, on our lousy team. Davis will be good but would bring nothing in return. By the time this team is ready to compete in the playoffs, Cooley will be on the backside of his career and Davis could be a real stud.

So, get a young player (QB or OT) we can build around and let Davis have that job full-time...well be fine.

I'm also okay trading Moss but I think we need him more than we need Cooley right now.

I have to say ... I am not down for trading Cooley, nor would Dan Snyder be. He is the most marketable guy on the team, and at a time when the fan base is against you, you don't cut off your nose to spite your face and get rid of your most marketable, and arguably best, offensive talent. I do not think we need Moss. He is a short reciever, fast yes, but dependable - not any more. Look at the Atlanta game, or the Green Bay Game 2 years ago as proof of that. He gave us GREAT memories, but so did James Arthur Monk. Unfortunately, we made our bed with Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly, I say Trade Santana and someone else, get another awful teams draft pick for next year, let the young WRs play out this year and get ready for the new OT, QB, and most importantly, COACH!!

Even though he is an elite TE, I'm not sure you get a first rounder for Chris Cooley, simply because of his position, and the fact he is coming off an injury. You could get a second rounder, but I'm not sure it is worth it to the team. We're just gonna have to find ways to use him and Davis, Probably with a lot of Davis in the slot.

You just about nailed this one.

Dan Snyder would never trade away a guy that brings in lots of money, can you think of one? no, because it's never happened. In fact look for us to grab up a reciever 1st round this year againsed popular opinion. The only way that doesnt happen is through a blockbuster deal to aquire a QB from another team.

The smart move isn't trading for another high 1st rounder, considering the crazy contracts those guys are getting. The smart move is trying to get more 2nd-3rd round draft picks.

I agree but it depends what we give up. Id love to get another 1st rounder somehow.

Then with our two 1st rounders and 2nd rounder in 2010 we could select a QB and two OL.

We need a GM to make the decision on who to keep and who should go and those decisions are not just based on a player's skill set so much as how the players here fit what we want to do both offensively and defensively - so far these 2 (Cerrato & Snyder) have just brought in 'talent' and not tried to find guys that make the other players around them better OR players that can play within the system that the coaches (offensive and defensive) want to run here - that is why we are not a very good team or a very deep team
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

True, that doesn't mean it won't affect his value.

My point is that it shouldn't. It wasn't a horrific open fracture, he planted wrong. I don't think it will.

Well, even more than that I think his position makes him hard to trade for a 1st rounder. I don't ever remember a blockbuster trade involving a tight end.

I wouldn't be shocked to see a team make that move. I could see someone making the move like Miami who are just a few players away from being very competitive in their division.

Carlos Rogers has shown he does not want to be here anymore. So I say we trade him for as much as we can get. I like Rogers but he simply has confidence issues and I question his desire to be a Redskin.

He's a free agent, we'd have to sign him first...and of course, he probably believes he's one of the top 5 corners in the league...I'm thinking he isn't even one of the top 5 corners in the NFC East!

The guy gets beat way too often and couldn't catch H1N1, even if everybody had it!

I believe he's leaving as a free agent, or we're signing him for a low ball contract...which is all he's worth. Ever wonder how different it would be if Vinnie picked Shawn Merriman instead of Carlos that year? That was when Vinnie picked for need (and we needed CB more than LB then), then later Vinnie talked up picking best player available! Maybe it was the Carlos pick that convinced Vinnie of that one.

I do not know if I could let go of Cooley.

It all depends on who is taking over. Are we getting a competent GM? A new coach?

I think Rogers is gone!!!
Randy Thomas is gone!!!
CP had a rough year, but he is not done..we should let him finish his contract here. You will see he will bounce back!!!
we should stay in the draft where we end up and get an Okun in the first round and either QB or RB or CB whichever best player is available. DOnt trade Cooley or Moss..

Personally, I think Portis is done as a premiere running back. He has lost a step, and does not seem as willing as he once was to "stick it in there". He is soft with the ball in his hands, and is going down on first contact. Not good. I think his high carry count has caught up to him.

Carlos Rogers sucks anyway. Good riddance. I've seen him get beat so many times I can't remember when he did make a play. Cooley is by far the best offensive player we have right now. I agree with getting alot of 2,3 4 rounders to help with depth and possibly finding that stud that can be a starter.
