What exactly are you talkin' bout Mr. Landry.....???

Landry was credited with a team-high 12 tackles. He also had a sack and three passes defensed. Once again, though, he gave up big plays in the passing game.

"No matter how it looks I'm going to try to jump on it, get the break on something," Landry said. "Staring it down, they ran a nice double move. He [Brees] stepped up in the pocket, I watched him step up in the pocket. ... Great call in that situation."

Landry accepts whatever criticism comes from the media and fans. "I mean, y'all talk about it y'all talk about it," he said. "I mean, the nature of it is how it looks.

"Y'all don't really know the play call, y'all don't really know the situation. If it's talked about it's talked about. I can't stop that. All you can do is know the truth behind it and have thick skin."

Really...what I know is you're our center fielder and you got burned twice. But I got much love for ya....

What an idiot. His own coach said that his play against the Saints was "unacceptable."

Personally I like Laron. He showboats a little (way) too much but he's a good player, just playing at the wrong position.

Landry is good, but as mentioned earlier. He has played the position long enough to know...HE IS THE LAST LINE OF DEFENSE! That has to be like safety 101.

No excuse, he is a professional athlete.
"It's almost like, you play a kid's game for a king's ransom," he said. "And if you don't take it serious enough, eventually one day you're going to say, 'Oh, I could have done this, I could have done that."

Laron's sack was lucky as heck. He flew in, threw a shoulder into Brees, connected barely, and Brees tripped. Lucky he didn't look like an idiot on that one too. I would love to see a fundamentally sound tackle out of the guy before I die. Just once wrap up. Just once.

And pretend you know the situation and stay deep. That too.

Thats all.

You can't blame him. That's the Strong safety in him. He's playing out of position thanks to Vinny

I don't blame Laron....

Blame the coaches for not benching him. Carlos gets benched, why can't Laron? And before you complain about whom to replace him with.... What difference will it make when he's been a root cause of losses because of his tendencies?

Put Kareem in at FS and bench Landry. Work Landry back in at SS and if you want to get Doughty and whomever else involved, run that Cobra package.

Even tho Kareem made a bonehead play, he's already got 1 more pick than LL has.

I wouldn't blame him if he was playing defensive tackle, but he's a Safety playing Safety... he's played it for years... whether you're playing Strong or Free Safety, you have to be able to come up and tackle and you have to be able to keep receivers in front of you... that's like saying that every time you're in a cover 2 and the strong safety gets beat deep, you say "of course he got beat, he's a strong safety, he's playing out of position"... no, he's a safety... sure he's better suited to play SS, but he'd still have to deal with these same situations...

we need to quit making excuses for Landry... he's undisciplined, and he's a hard-hitting poor tackler... instead of taking responsibility for his mistakes, he has to make it sound like the media and the fans are just not smart enough to understand the scheme on those plays...

Wrong player in the wrong position at the wrong time.

He is a SS

The coaches placed him at FS

Gregg Williams KNEW that the guy would bite at that time. In fact, they could have made him jump yet a third time if necessary.

The coaches placed him at FS because the FO did not get a proper replacement for Sean Taylor.

Two and a half seasons later, this team has not recovered from the loss of one of the greatest FS in the history of the NFL.

That is the difference between two clowns, dumb Vinny and dumber Danny, and a true competent GM. These guys think fantasy and shuffle players like cards. A GM finds true balance to place players in the BEST position for themselves and the team at the right time.

It is not difficult to track all the fundamental flaws of the team all the way to the source. THIS is why I will keep a relentless attack on DUMB AND DUMBER.

I agree with ST being one of the best ever if not the best.

What I do disagree with is wrong player and wrong position.

Even if Landry was playing SS he still would have had to have deep coverage. The Saints still would have targeted Landry.

The problem is discipline not being at the wrong position. Which is also a reflection of on the coaches and upper management. Like we have always known.

The Redskins were previously number one against the pass. So Landry can actually play a decent FS. Sure he probably would be better at SS. But, he is more then capable of playing FS.

Anybody can play FS but that is different than being the BEST player you can at your natural position.

LL is a SS.

The same situation repeats oitself with Orakpo. You can waste him at LB. He is a natural DE.

Go on, keep on playing players outside of their BEST positions.

Yes but he'd be underneath...If you watch the first one you see Doughty has the slant covered no need for LL to eveny bite!!! IF it was LL there at least we don't get beat for the TD IMO

as I posted elsewhere -

IMO - we have a lot of players that are not playing well but mainly because they are not being coached very well - Landry is a very talented player that needs better and stricter supervision - this guy could be the leader on this defense in the coming years if he had better coaching and was playing the position he's best suited to.

The importance of a really good Strong Safety is as easy as looking at the effect that not having Troy playing is having on the Steelers :) Landry has the ability and the talent to be a really good SS - he just needs better coaching and discipline

I am not making excuses for the way Landry is presently playing (or behaving) - I just think that part of that is because he's not being coached or instructed properly - the on field behaviour will improve with stricter control by the coaches - you either behave in accordance with how the HC and position coaches want you to behave or you are benched

the whole franchise should take a look in a mirror & ask themselves "am I really making my best effort to help the others around me do their jobs better?"
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Suisham was not a great kicker in the NFL and actually I was a little disapointed he was on this team this year - I felt that his kickoffs were disapointing and he was not that reliable over 40 yards
besides - nobody keeps a kicker after a very costly miss like that

BUT the fact remains that this team should be both using Landry differently and using whatever method works to make sure he plays as the coaches want him to - this guy can be a force if used properly and if he understands that his mistakes will be punished

It's about on-the-field discipline. Apparently he cannot handle the leeway allowed a FS. As a SS his assignment becomes more specific and not as open to interpretation and that may be better suited for him.

I agree that we should play Orakpo at DE. I do think Landry would be better at SS if we had a suitable FS to replace.

My main point I was trying to make is the lack of discipline falls back on the coaching.

I mean missed field goals, interceptions, players being played in the wrong position, lack of depth at Oline, missed assignments(Landry getting beat for TDs) etc....

I point the blame towards the Front office and the coaching. It is a gigantic cluster F!!! if you know what I mean.
It really makes no sense pointing out Landry when there are a host of problems.
All of which can be solved when we bring in someone who can lay down a proper football foundation. I think we all can agree on that.

I kinda feel bad for LL a bit. I mean he will be forever be compared to ST21, he is playing out of position sure. So was ST, but ST adapted wonderfully. I think LL30 Will come into his own, he will be a force at SS, at FS.. not so much,. I like the swagger, it seems arrogant, but swagger is a prerequisite when playing D, specially as a DB

Landry does not accept accountability for the errors. Think about that. What he is telling us... what he is telling the coaches... is "my play is fine. There is no need for me to change anything. If I see that move again, I will try to jump it again. That is how I play. I'm not changing." There is certainly an element of coaching failure in this, but far more of this is related to player arrogance. The fault of coaching is in permitting him to continue to play the position, despite his refusal to learn to play it well.

Laron Landry has the physical skills to be an exceptional FS... just as we already know that he has what it takes to be an exceptional SS. The problem is, he has no intention of becoming an exceptional FS, he has no intention of making the mindset adjustments that would be required... he has no intention of developing and enhancing the skills that are called for. This is sounding very much like a player who is not motivated by "team" needs... but by "me" needs.

Coaching and the FO need to make a decision... either he is a SS... or he needs to play elsewhere.

exactamundo countertrey - get the people in here that can get the best out of these players and make them make the other players around them better - that is what happens with a decent coaching staff and that is what is lacking here

Landry needs to be put in the right position and coached/instructed on what he needs to do to both execute the system and to make the other players better - this guy is a good player that could be great

good point

I thought he played both, heavy on the SS during his rookie year since we had Clark. Then was developing in to a badass FS, then his last year he was pure FS, since we had knucklehead LL to bust heads.
