Weis as HC???

Post by CanesSkins26 »

I'd be shocked if the Redskins were this stupid. However, if VC doesn't get canned I could see this happening...

Former Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis and QB Jimmy Clausen could find themselves together again with the Washington Redskins next season.

It’s a possibility.

This morning on The Sports Junkies radio show on 106.7 The Fan in Washington, DC, Redskins beat report Chris Russell stated that Charlie Weis was a possibility to come to Washington next season.

Given the fact that Redskins GM Vinny Cerrato has a soft spot for Notre Dame, the move would make sense.

It was also reported that the Redskins – who in all likelihood will have a top 5 draft pick in April – are seriously interested in Jimmy Clausen who announced that he will skip his senior season and declare himself eligible for the NFL draft on Monday.

There is no denying that the pair have a special bond. In fact, despite being heavily recruited by USC, Clausen chose to attend Notre Dame simply because of Weis’ NFL coaching experience.

Although the Irish had a lackluster 6-6 season, Clausen had a banner year, passing for 3,722 yards, 28 touchdowns and only four interceptions.

Other teams interested in Clausen’s services include the St. Louis Rams and Cleveland Browns who have his predecessor Brady Quinn under center at the moment.

A lot of the reunion is contingent on whether or not Cerrato is retained by the Redskins next season. There is speculation that he and owner Daniel Snyder are on the outs.

Please Lord. Don't let this trend continue. We need someone who knows what they are doing and not someone who's ridden coat tails of others success.

While I think that Weis as HC is a disaster, I wouldn't be opposed to seeing Weis as our OC. That is a role that he is very qualified for.

The fact that the Redskins are interested in a QB before they hire there next coach tells me nothing is going to change this offseason!

Sounds like a lot of assumptions and fluff. Let's finish the season before we start biting on rumors.

That we aren't hiring a new coach or that we are interested in Clausen??
Either way the FO doesn;t need to be interested in anything until the GM and HC job are set IMO

That's my point, DE. I'm going under the assumption that we're hiring a GM THEN a HC until I hear otherwise. With Danny's deep pocket and stupid past decisions, anything tagged with Washington Redskins people will bite on. I'm not biting.

No thanks on both. We are not in a position to have the luxury of a 1st round QB. Although we've seen decent blocking the last few weeks, we must solely address the offensive line. We also, first and foremost must hire a PROVEN gm to come in here and establish a foundation on this team.

I think most of this story is bogus. I live in St. Louis and that is the first time I have herd Clausen's name mentioned as a potential draft choice for the Rams.
Bruce has the authority. When Bruce makes the decision, it's a Redskins decision.

And that's why you can take so much of this unsourced reporting with a pretty massive grain of salt. Reporters look at depth charts, look at the standings, and bam! anybody likely to have a high draft pick and not a lot of money tied up at the QB position is interested in Clausen.

I haven't had any interest in watching ND since I left college (roommate was a fan), but is there any reason to think Clausen's going to be any better than Quinn has been?

Last time I checked, you usually don't win consistently in this league until you hve yourself a very good QB. I would have no problem taking Clausen with our # 1 and a T and C with the 2nd & 4th rounder.

Just because they went to the same school doesn't mean they will have the same pro career. Clausen is a lot more accurate that Quinn ever was.

Ask some of the young QB's who were drafted and their team didn't have talent on the offensive line. Not to mention the chance of that QB failing vs the linemen failing is far greater based off history. Also, you have to look at a contract for a QB vs the lineman.

Really? I've seen a lot of reports saying that the Rams are going to go with a qb in the first round.

Yea I really don't see any reason why 2 qb's won't be off the board when we draft.

How bout the Redskins focus on that O-line first and foremost...
Campbell is the best option for next year. But because the front office still doesn't know how to conduct business to become successful. Campbell will bounce and do WELL somewhere else...same story different day.

Agree, and because of this, I feel like Campbell will be back...and that's not good in my opinion (no need to debate it, I know your position). But we absolutely need an O-line and a new GM. I wouldn't even mind seeing Zorn back for another year with Sherm calling plays, just as long as we get a new GM. Get rid of Portis.

LT in the 1st, RB in the 2nd and C in the 3rd.

I agree with everything but the J Campbell response. I think a 3rd year in the same offense will produce wonderful rewards and I also see him having a lot more confidence every week as he matures along with the players around him in this offense.

Yea I think they have recently found themselves in a situation where they have to address RB. Maybe if Gerhart runs slow enough at the combine we can pick him up in the second.
