Why the support for Bugel?

Talk about the Washington Football Team here. Do you bleed burgundy and gold?

I think it could be summed up by one comment that Joe Gibbs made. "In order to appear knowlegdable, you have to surround yourself with knowledgable people".

why do you care? I don't care about George Warhop, you shouldnt care what goes on here.

Yeah, well...even I find occasion to butt heads with GF now and then, especially when he gets to going about the Eagles. Anyway, I think that the back and forth here certainly does enhance your knowledge. You can either be a slobberin' drunk Big Blue fan who insists that Ron Dayne was not a bust and should be traded to a team that will appreciate him for a first round pick, or you can articulate your position. I think this thread was started appropriately, and I think that neither harm nor foul was intended. However, because Joe Bugel runs in our very veins, we went after the Curveball with some real viciousness.

Curveball, here's the deal. Bugel knows Gibbs. He knows what Gibbs wants to do. He's going to take that all in, and make his offensive line into a solid machine that can give Gibbs the opportunities to do what he wants to do. He's done it before, with many different qb's behind the line, and with many different RB's trying to squeeze through. The O-Line is his specialty, and he knows who can do what. While some may feel the trend is shifting towards a smaller and faster lineman, it must be considerd that that is a "trend" because one team started it.
We're starting an "old" new trend. It worked before, and it can work again. If that is the direction that Gibbs is going in, who better than the man that started it all to take the helm at O-Line coach ?
Ask John Madden what he thinks of this coaching staff, and be prepared to wipe his spittle off of your brow.
He's excited, and so are we.

Do all Cowgirl fans need to be in rehab????

Possibly the best O-Line coach in NFL history and you ask a question like that????

Are you 12 years old? History is an amazing thing.

I have no doubt regarding Gibbs ability to adapt to the changing landscape, but I do have serious questions about Bugel's skills.

Maybe the point is not whether Bugel is still a good coach. Maybe the real issue is whether the players believe in him and, as a result, play better with him as their coach. Bugel brings a lot of excitement and an identity to this offensive line of the Redskins...something that has been severely lacking in years past.

Like Gibbs, I think Bugel will find a way to bring out the best in his OL players.....or....at the very least, they will give 110% for him. I can't say that about past OL coaches.

If he is able to get his players to give 110%...no matter how "good" or "bad" people think he might be as a coach, that will win me over every time.

I agree with some of your points, but I look at the successful teams right now and see most of them taking the "smaller" approach. Look at the Patriots from last season, they were one of the smallest O-lines in the league.

Even teams that don't use zone blocking incorporate some of the aspects into their overall scheme. Again, I'll believe Bugel can do this when I see it.

Again, three super bowl appearances and two wins in an 8 year span ('81 - '89) with one of the if not THE most dominant lines in NFL history speaks volumes.

Yes it speaks volumes about his ability 20 years ago. What about now? What did he do at his last O-line gig?

Obviously you do. You responded multiple times within this thread with the same insightful message.

I've heard from several posters here who've told me that they enjoy seeing an unemotional contrarian veiwpoint occasionally. I believe that it helps people better understand why they believe what they believe. It may also give them ammunition against similar arguments they may encounter with their real world friends who are fans of other teams.

If you don't care, simply avoid my posts.

I'm responding to point out how stupid this is. Dude, get a life. It's SUMMER OUT, nice hot weather, and you're talking about the DAMN OFFENSIVE LINE coach of a team you don't even like.

FInd something else to talk about.

Curveball's doing nothing wrong, just expressing his opinion and bringing a topic to the boards, It's our job to teach him to see the light.... If he can't he will soon ;) but still he's welcome to express himself the way he usually does.... there are those of us that enjoy his opinion ;)

So basically, Welcome to the board! Now get off his back! ;)

chalktalk, chalktalk, chalktalk. The F2FA, which TheHogs.net is a part of, is all about getting together with fans from other teams. If you don't like the idea of people trying to learn more about the Redksins, or football in general (I don't know why, but I hate using that word) it might be you who's in the wrong place.

Please.....I know you're not that dumb. There's no opinion being expressed. It's just a common thing done, its called pulling your chain.

It's like me saying, man your car sucks, it was cool a long time ago, why'd you get the model now though?

It has nothing to do with football. it has everything to do with "hey let's rip on something about the redskins and cleverly call it a "discussion".

it's early june. hot as hell out here. and he's talking about a freaking offensive line coach?!?! PLease. Fraud.

Personally I'm more than happy for Curveball to ask about Buges - gives people opportunity to tell everyone about how great the Hogs were under him. Buges may not have had the greatest success as a HC but we all know what he does best. Curveball, you just have to listen to the noises coming from camp and how much the (even experienced) O.Line are getting from his tutelage.
Someone made the point about how Buges and Gibbs know each other, and Gibbs trusts Buges to provide the sort of line required for the rest of the offense to function. That is a well-made point.
I think there's no reason to get on Curveball's case - as a cowgirls fan, he's actually not too far up himself from what I can make out...unlike those budgie fans in green!

1903, good post. i agree.
curveball, don't hold it against the rest of us.(just switch favorite teams already  ) but really, yes buges obviously wasn't cut out as a head coach, but his roots are with the O-line. the sizes of some lines and some of the formations may have changed in the trenches, but it still remains the same. the trenches. its where the dirty work takes place. these are the guys who have to get their hands dirty. and bugel teaches fundamentals. and is pretty freakin good at it might i add. while some defenses use lots of rotations and shifts to try to wear down the O-line, one thing remains a constant. run blocking is easier than pass blocking. with all the blocking TE's aquired, not to mention portis, you can bet that gibbs will pound the ball, pound the ball and the maybe run the ball some more. this falls right into what bugel teaches. the talent is there on the o-line, they just haven't had any guidance. besides spurriers gawd awful schemes, kim helton certainly was NOT getting the best out of the line while he was here, so bugel comes in as god of the hogs himself, if you can understand that. to make a long story short, if you had really paid attention to what helton had been doing in the past with the talent provided to him, you'd know that the reason we are so high on bugel is because its a breathe of fresh air, number 1. and two, just an ounce or so of hope that he could do with this talent what he did so many years ago with much less talent...

Who cares already. The point was and is, the guy is looking around and seeing people writing about how much they like Bugel, and he doesnt like the idea of a Redskins fan enjoying himself, so he gets on here and writes "what has he done lately"

its not about football. read between the lines. its about pulling your chain and cleverly calling it a "discussion".

its pointless. i mean who cares about the offensive line coach now anyways. its J-U-N-E! and you're talking about the merits of an oline coach. please. it aint even about football or redskins. id rather talk about the jump rope competition in sioux city.

its like saying greg williams stunk as a head coach........what does he know about defense...when's the last time he's been relevant?...........dumb...........wait till august......then bring it up
