In a tersely worded statement Monday, the Kansas City Chiefs announced that embattled running back Larry Johnson has been released.
Johnson on Sunday served a one-game suspension for making gay slurs. He was 75 yards from breaking Priest Holmes' franchise record (6,070) for career rushing yards.
The Chiefs suspended Johnson without pay through Sunday after he questioned coach Todd Haley's qualifications on his Twitter account and twice used a homosexual slur. Last Monday, Kansas City reached a settlement with Johnson, reducing the amount of pay he would lose by half, to $315,000.
The Chiefs initially cleared Johnson to return to the team's facility and participate in team activities beginning Monday. He apologized for his remarks last week, and his agent said his client had learned from the entire experience.
Last week, an online petition started by Chiefs fans asked general manager Scott Pioli to deactivate Johnson and keep him on the sideline so he could not pass Holmes' team rushing record or join the team's Ring of Honor at Arrowhead Stadium.
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

? Why the hostility?
He's openly racist. I think we had this discussion before, but I'll recap.
He had an interview on Inside the NFL where he said he couldn't play for a white HC the way he could play for a black HC b/c a white HC 'didn't know what a young black athlete has gone thru.' This, he stated, was the root of why he had a problem when Dick Vermiel was the HC and why he he was more productive when Herm Edwards took over. I won't support Larry Johnson in any way, shape, or form.
...any given Sunday....
RIP #21 Sean Taylor. You will be loved and adored by Redskins fans forever!!!!!

The National Anthem sucks.
What a useless piece of propagandist rhetoric that is.
So is it racist in principle to say that an old white man can't know what a young black athlete has gone through, or is it just something about Johnson's comments in particular that upset you?

It's racist in principle to say that he can't work for a white coach. I would be on board if he said Vermiel was a crusty bastard and they didn't get along. But it wasn't isloated to Vermiel, it was all white coaches.

I'm not familiar with the original story, so you'll have to fill me in on some of the details. Did he say that he couldn't play for a white coach, or that he couldn't play for a white coach the same way that he could play for a black coach? That seems to be a big difference to me. If he stated something more like the latter, do you think that's racist in principle, or was there something particular about Johnson's comments that upset you?

It was probably 2 years ago, so the verbatim escapes me. The way I took it after the interview was that he couldn't play for a white coach and succeed.
Here's the clip. Cris doesn't put himself in a favorable light in this interview either IMO.

Is that based on a twitter update he wrote or a pattern of behavior? I'd never heard of of-field troubles until recently.
Johnson is a sorry excuse of a human being. Since 2003, he has been arrested four times on various assault charges involving women. On one occasion he was arrested for waiving a gun at his then-girlfriend. Last year he was arrested for spitting in a women's face at a night club and threatening to kill her boyfriend.
Larry Johnson is the wrong player at the wrong place at the wrong time.
It is the worst possible decision this Front Office could take mainly for DIFFERENT reasons than the race issue and his personal conduct off of the field.
So, the FO will probably do it.
PS. Unfortunately, race is still a hot issue in America either way you look at it.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!
The Chiefs are a disgrace and so is Larry Johnson. What I don't get is that with all the women Larry beat the kept him. The moment he said a gay slur which in my opinion was blown way out of proportion they release him.? Unbelievable.

Well he's not gone because of those comments...He's gones because of the comments he made about Haley. If Haley is not qualified to be a HC after being an OC what'sd LJ going to think about Zorn??

I think then that the people reporting that then they need to make that clear. Everything that I have heard is he got released because of the gay slurs he used. But my point is that he should have been released a long time ago and what he did was a lot worse then what he said

The trick is to use it often but to pretend that you don't. I can be anybody online; impersonating someone who knows what they are talking about is my specialty, in fact!
