Zorn "went off" at halftime

Post by Irn-Bru »

Via Redskins Insider:

Redskins: Zorn 'went off' at halftime

I spoke with several players last night who said that Coach Jim Zorn "went off" at halftime in the visitors' locker room at the Georgia Dome.

Obviously, Zorn was frustrated about the Redskins' shoddy overall performance to that point and the 24-3 deficit. He didn't confine his loud criticism to the offensive line (the Falcons tied a franchise record with five first-half sacks), instead blasting the entire team for its execution and lack of discipline.

Zorn even reminded the Redskins "this is not Pop Warner," and he demanded they get it together as best they could after the break. The offense had its most spirited second-half performance of the season, but the defense faltered down the stretch in the 31-17 loss.

Although the Redskins often have been in bad shape at halftime in Zorn's 24-game tenure, he has never displayed the emotion he did Sunday, the players said.

"He hasn't done that before, not like that, anyway," said one veteran player who requested anonymity because what occurs in the locker room is supposed to stay in the locker room.

"It was just different. Maybe that's what we needed all along."

6 games too late. How about that for a head coach. Really times it well. Man, 8 games into the season and he just now realizes that this is a train wreck? Why even waste your breath at this point.

Why does everyone reference Pop Warner when a team does bad...my team doesn't have that many offsides penalties...I Know next time I yell at my team I'll remind them we aren't the Redskins!!

I agree with CH44 -- too late.

He's now a leader with no authority. His words no longer carry any weight with those he's supposedly charged to lead.

No one gives enough of a darn about him to listen.

It's like the president of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association speaking at a vegan convention.

I disagree with the too little too late. This is what this team needs if they are to have any decent showing for the remainder of the season.

No, I do not expect them to win many games from now on. But what I expect is a much better attitude and fighting spirit. Self-respect.

No more Mr. Medium, please. Too bad you are learning to coach players in the locker room when your future is sealed Mr. Zorn. It will serve you elsewhere.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

In watching his post game pressers it seems that Zorn knows he's gone and so we are getting a bit more info now...I don't think you would have heard him say this four weeks ago

road: 0-6

Since 2000 the Redskins have scored 40 pts 2 times!!!!
12/30/01 @ NO 40-10 W

Oddly enough, I agree with this.

That has been one of my major pet peeves with Zorn is that he doesn't call these guys out enough.

He said a few weeks ago he wasn't going to yell at a bunch of grown men, but it was obvious that it was exactly what he needed to do; and the team responded.

They came out in that third quarter and looked like a completely different team. They put together two really good drives that resulted in touchdowns.

Sure, it was too late for the game.

Sure, it's too late for the season.

It may even be too late for Zorn's job, but if they were going to fire him, they could have done that just as easily a few weeks ago since it already appears to everybody that Zorn is gone at the end of the season.

Zorn needs to fight for his job. He needs the players to fight for him. Hopefully he keeps applying the bootleather to their backsides and if we gotta lose; we go down swinging.

I know many hope that we just lose out so that things will change...but I just can't root against this team.

Zorn is gone at the end of the season no matter what. That is blatantly obvious.

Isn't this THE definition of too little too late??? Your post contradicts itself

Bottom line, we as fans are happy to see the guy express himself. Good for him and yes it's too late but it was too late when they hired him as OC and then promoted him to HC.. again, who's to blame, you people know the answer already.

At least it would make watching the games interesting, as opposed to the first half yesterday which was tortuous.

Zorn's still learning how to be a head coach. Maybe he learned something Sunday about getting his team going? Best case for him is he rethinks his "stay medium" attitude and takes a page out of Gibbs' book, where he stays soft-spoken until it's time not to be. I wouldn't mind keeping Zorn as long as he makes progress like this, the team plays with some heart, and we start winning.

I think Snyder and possibly Vin if he stays, have already made the decision on Zorn. Sadly, Zorny may learn more about how to deal with adversity during this horror show of a season then Snyder and crew do, and in the end benefit who works for next.

Did anyone see the Skins' fan sitting in the end zone seating with a sign that read:

Danny
CONFISCATE THIS...
FIRE VINNY!!!

I mean, you don't get the same effect when I type it but I loved the sign!!
