Gruden's MNF Job interview
I just wanted to say that Gruden sounded like he was at a job interview for the WAS HC job... He was all positive in the beginning and saying its the players and this and that...

Portis threw his helmet he was so upset about losing and it looks like he doesn't care? He cares too much IMO.
Gruden would be a good choice as HC but he needs/would want a real general manager. I would prefer Russ Grimm, but Gruden is a good coach in this league and some of the best coaches are guys who were fired in their last job.

Frankly, it was a refreshing to see some emotion. What do you guys want...more smiles from 22, or rants about how its the media's fault from 45...??? No, I'll take Portis showing some raw emotion, and Davis admitting his deficiencies and his plan to fix any day.
On a Positive note:
1. Carter is reaping some real benefits from Big Al. Not sure if I'm blind, or just drunk...but haven't seen Orakpo line up opposite him too much like they talked about in the preseason. Slide Chris Wilson to the LB slot sparingly and we could have something there.
2. Fred Davis really stepped up tonight (minus blocking; though he took accountability for it.) Could have probably done this more earlier in the year if Soup would go through his progressions.
3. Haven't seen a huge drop-off in performance w/ Doughty. Nice to have two safeties that can make plays keeping them both fresh.
4. I might be alone in camp, here...but I thought Sherm did a good job mixing it up. Seen some plays called that really seemed to stump the defense. Had it not been for a few miscues by special teams, a blown coverage on 3rd and 22, and the sweep HOLD no call...we could have won that game. He seemed to have an answer for the blitzing. When the players actually executed the plays called, we had them on their heels. Ultimately that guy in New England could call our plays, but without execution he might as well be Spurrier.
Negatives as follows:
1. Soup feels pressure even when there isn't any. Multiple plays left on the field due to happy feet (as was DUBIOUSLY noted by Chucky.) The one in paticular had Moss WIDE open with no one within 20 yards and he NEVER saw him.
2. Soup Continued. I don't blame the interception on him...kinda a freak play. But the strip fumble is ALL him not feeling the pressure and either throwing the ball away or checking down for a minimal play.
3. This is a negative and a positive combined. El returning punts might be on its last leg. Muffed kick-off could have cost us seven, big guy. The defense bailed you out, AGAIN.
Too little too late, unfortunately...and the loss of 47 for the year is salt in the wound. Continue to work with the youth and evaluate talent versus salary (WHY ISN"T MARKO ON THE FIELD!!!??? AND DON'T GIVE ME DEPTH BS!!!) Still keeping the faith, though frustrated...again.

I'm pretty sure you are correct. I remember Portis blocking.

I dont think he stepped up, he was just given a frigging chance. As was Devon, I've said all along that Zorn is retarded and he's holding them back. Sherm comes in and THomas has his FIRST TD AND DAVIS BREAKS OUT!! It's not coincidence.
Sure Davis got some burn cus

Sure Davis got some burn cusey got hurt but let Zorn tell it, Davis can't play... I'll be glad when that loser is fired.
It's funny when someone captures your sentiment better than you attempt. I agree with the retardation of the players...am curious to see how they develop without blinders and binds on. Hopefully this hasn't stunted any development/potential. How awful this would be if Zorn has been wrong all along and talent has rotted on the bench.
I also agree w/ the earlier post about the questionable call w/ Sellers on third and long...but I like getting him involved in the offense. I know he has put the ball on the carpet a couple of times...but I also remember a few years back (Gibbs 2.0) when he had six touchdowns. Not utilizing our resources is among the problems of bad playcalling and player execution.
I left Camp Zorn after the Kansas City game. Detroit almost beat us last year...and have a better QB, more talent, and possibly a better coach. The KC game was disgusting...no need to elaborate.
Not sold on Gruden. I like the in your face mentality...but like most, feel he road the Dungy wave and sputtered out when he had HIS players, etc. But, it can't honestly be much worse than this...

I don't think that that is a fair assessment of Gruden. Don't forget that the team that he beat in the Super Bowl, the Raiders, was the team that he had coached and those were his players.
Suck and Luck
Haven't forgotten the Raiders (but oddly enough, he had an advantage being their former coach knowing strengths/weaknesses, etc.) I want the FO to make the right choice this time...not just jump on the first grenade in the foxhole. And the other thing I don't like about this concept is he is the only coach mentioned that was willing to allow Snyderrato to continue making bad choices. I think we can all agree that a proper GM is in order here. Only time will tell...
I don't care if Nancy Pelosi becomes the next coach/GM...anyone who can return respect to the squad would make my Sunday afternoon a lot more bearable and would get my support.

My worst fear is that Gruden has been the ONLY candidate who has publicly accepted to coach without changes at the top.
So, in my book, he is the front runner for the job. I have no question in my mind that he feels he can do a better job than Zorn has. And he probably would !!! In fact, his name alone will bring some hope among the Skins fans. Many fans would be deceived AGAIN. The marketing tricks and the loyalty of the fan base are too powerful.
But MOST of us know that incompetence at the top will prevent success. The conditions for real success have been set by so many people, players, media, posters that it is SICK to repeat them:
GM first. He chooses a HC. The HC chooses his staff. And the QB is chosen by the GM with input from all, including scouts.
For as long as these measures are not put in place, we will continue to have the merry go round of players and coaches with predictable tragic results.
Hail!

Lots of really good analysis here by several of you guys.
1) I did recognize an improvement in play calling (and that surprised me), and thought that it was executed quite well, absent of major snafus.
2) Aside from two explosive plays from Jackson, the defense played lights out. Rogers, and Landry need a real big foot in their collective rear ends. Rogers is really a weak link back there, and Landry needs to stop trying to be Sean Taylor (he never will be), and start tackling instead of trying to make the big hit. And he needs to be the guy that stops those long explosive plays, and stop taking bad angles to the ball. By taking a proper angle, he could have turned Jackson back inside and kept him from getting outside on that sweep. He's turned out to be less than expected at FS, and needs to step it up.
3) ARE should never touch another punt return. His grandmother would be better suited for the job ... THAT IS ON THE COACHES
4) Jason Campbell needs to be put out of his misery and ours. GET HIM OFF THE FIELD ... it's over. Too many issues with him ... and they were all highlighted last night for everyone to see. At least two or three of the sacks were ALL Jason Campbell stepping into pressure instead of avoiding it. As was pointed out .. he constantly focuses on the rush, and takes his eyes away from his targets ... his ball handling skills are about as poor as his decision making skills, and he's inaccurate even with good pass pro. Every single game, he misses wide open TD opportunities as was shown by Jaws last night (as is regularly pointed out by Sonny and Sam on the radio broadcasts, but rarely on TV coverage). When you have to search so hard to find an upside, maybe it's because there isn't one?
Campbell isn't the ONLY issue on offense, but he clearly is a MAJOR problem. Between missed opportunities to score and his turnovers, he is the biggest liability. A solid QB and a couple of upgrades on the o-line would produce a major improvement on offense.
5) Zorn is lost. He's not a head coach ... and not likely to be a very good OC. Another blunder on the part of the Snyderatto tag team.
When a group plays like this offense plays ... it starts with the HC. ARE on punts ... Campbell continuing to look like a first year 5th round draft pick playing QB ... and the lack of urgency and emotion on the offensive side is a slap in the face to a defense that continued to play HARD even down by 17 with time running down. Blache gets his guys ready every game, and Zorn's version of the keystone cops is painful to watch and shows that he has no ability to turn this group around.
Even his pressers are exposing how clueless he is. Best thing that could happen to the Redskins is to buy Zorn and Campbell a one way ticket out of DC. So long as those two head cases are conspiring on the sidelines, this offense will continue the embarrassment.

Agree. Keep the focus on getting a new GM. If Gruden is hired without one, we'll be in this mess for another 10 years, and I for one can't do it. Sorry. Gruden / Shannahan / Holmgren / Cower are not the answer. WE NEED A GM and if one is not hired this offseason with total control, it's over for this franchise. Fans will walk.

Agreed. Playcalling was better. However, I thought execution still sucked.

Agreed on both counts. Landry hasn't developed as well as I had hoped he would.

Absolutely. Put someone else in there. What's the worst that could happen? He'd fumble punts and dance around?

Campbell needs to sit. His time has come and passed. I'm not saying Collins would do any better, because I honestly don't think he would, but clearly, Campbell isn't giving you anything at this point.
Campbell isn't the ONLY issue on offense, but he clearly is a MAJOR problem. Between missed opportunities to score and his turnovers, he is the biggest liability.
I was waiting for something like this

No, while Campbell isn't doing anything, clearly the biggest liability is our offensive line. Can't run block, can't pass block. Without an o-line, no quarterback produces.

Yeah, i noticed when the others were being more negative towards the Skins, Gruden just kinda stood there and listened, didn't chime in as much as the other two...
