Hall of Famers

I have an upcoming project to paint an image of RFK stadium with images of a handful of Hall of famers in the foreground, so I have decided to leave it in the hands of some rabid Redskin fans to help me out with some names. I know the obvious ones but I have to whittle it down to about 10. I hope to be able to use this painting as part of the annual Quarterback club luncheon and to make prints of it later. It will be named "Glory Days" for obvious reasons.
Any help in this would be greatly appreciated

Well so far I have come up with Sammy Baugh, Sonny Jurgensen, Joe Gibbs, John Riggins, Art monk, Billy Kilmer, Brian Mitchell, The Hogs, Dexter Manly, Mark Mosely, Charlie Taylor. But I am sure theres a bunch more I guess it's going to come down to personal preferences

Here's my Top 10 Skins in order of franchise importance:

No , it's on the up and up, I was approached by the Quarterback club to maybe produce a piece of art for their upcoming Redskins luncheon in November, their annual charity event, I am the fella who painted the Sean Taylor portrait a while ago . I thought I'd better consult the better authorities on this .

I think a lot of it does come down to personal preference. Gibbs, Sonny, Baugh, Monk, Charlie Taylor from your list are, I think, all perfect choices. It would be difficult to pick just one OL from the Hogs era, but then again any top-10 list without some kind of Hogs presence wouldn't be complete, IMO.

(I used to get my haircuts at a barbershop in Queenstown that had every scrap of wall-space covered with large pictures of Redskins from the era before the face-mask. I'd grown up hearing about Number 33, but the rest were giant "?????" to me. You want some of them.)

Well, my view is that the discussion touched on Sammy Baugh, and anything related to Sammy in in-season!!!!!

Otherwise, painfully true, but there's a game today and if kids like CT and I could get excited for the possibility that Norm Snead might drill a pass to Fred Dugan, making a circus catch, maybe hanging upside down, then it's worth a cheer and a round of Hail to the Redskins.

I think a lot of it does come down to personal preference. Gibbs, Sonny, Baugh, Monk, Charlie Taylor from your list are, I think, all perfect choices. Actually, according to his criteria, your choice of Hogs is easy. Can't pick any of them, since none of them have been enshrined in the Hall of Fame (he did say "Hall of Famers"). Totally ridiculous, but...

Since it's a painting of RFK though, do the Baugh era players even qualify?

There is going to be someone who will argue for any number of players... yes, it will absolutely come down to personal preference.

It appears, appropriately, that you are looking at players who actually played at DC/RFK Stadium. Let me add some candidates, then.

Pat Fischer, because I don't have an agenda.
Bobby Mitchell, who was the first black Redskin... and arguably one of the 5 best ever.
Sam Huff... I can't believe he's not on your list.
Len Hauss, one of the greatest centers EVER
Jerry Smith... Sonny's go to man, and among the most productive tight end's ever. He was the third member of the Taylor, Mitchell, Smith troika.
Diron Talbert. An argument can be made that, if not for Diron Talbert, the Redskins/Cowboys rivalry would have been just an "oh, by the way".
Kenny Houston... if for no other reason (and, there ARE plenty of other reasons) than that incredible tackle of Walt Garrison.
Paul Kraus, the prototype Cornerback
Billy Kilmer... Sonny was the better quarterback, but Billy was the soul of the team when he was here
Chris Hanburger, who was always too small... yet, for some reason, backs went out of their way to avoid him.
Dave Butz. Nobody ran between the tackles when he was in the game. Without Butz, there are extra players to work on Manley.
Ritchie Pettibon. Not only was he a fabulous DC, he provided the prototype of todays Safety. He revolutionized the position.
Mike Nelms. 2 stats... 212 punt returns. 0 Fair catches. FUN!

Thanks folks, I now have the dilemna of figuring out how to put this together, it may have to come down to two eras and two different paintings. The modern era with RFK and the past era with the older fellas. Thanks for the help, I will let you know what happens with this.
