Ring of Fame - Yes. Hall of Fame - No. We've had this thread before so I will spare everyone the details.

I appreciate the fact that BMitch is laying into the team and calling them on their lack of performance...I wonder what he said to the same media who questioned his heart when he was on two of the worst teams in Skins history?

My favorite BMitch moment: The end of the 91 Super Bowl when they're doing all the "victory shots" of the Skins bench and they get to BMitch and he doesn't say "Hi Mom" or "We're the World Champs" or "Skins are #1". No, this "For the Love of the Game" Ballplayer says "I get a winner's game check". Sounds like a Team First Guy.

Thank you, Deadskins. There is this, from the article on Redskins.com, that underlines Mitchell's importance to the team, and worthiness of a place in the Hall...

Mitchell finished his career ranked second all-time in all-purpose yards with 23,300, trailing only legendary wide receiver Jerry Rice, who has 23,546.

Think about this. Mitchell's career spanned 14 years... The great Jerry Rice's, 20. Yet, in that additional 4 years, Rice managed to gain only 246 total yards more than B. Mitch. 246 yards.

I think you will be outnumbered. B. Mitch always did what he was asked to do. Was Rossom every a QB in the NFL? B. Mitch was.

Regardless of how his stat's came about, he took advantage of opportunites when they presented himself. He may have been on some of the worst - which I think this year's team is - he also played on some pretty decent teams. And don't forget the people he's played against. They've been pretty good over the years.

Ridiculous argument. ST is 1/3 of the game, and the field position battle is very important to a team's success. But he was also a great 3rd down back for us as well. Not to mention he was a vocal team leader, and there was no one else in the NFL that I would have rather had returning kicks for the B&G.

I realize that there is another side to the debate with its own set of arguments. The short story is that I think they are somewhat weak and uncompelling. And, IIRC, that is the sentiment of most people on the board, as well.

I maybe in the minority on this board, but according to the voters who vote for the HOF, I'm in the majority. He didn't even make it to the semi-finals in the balloting...which makes his chances of getting elected virtually nil.

Steve Tasker is possibly the greatest special teams player in the game, and he made it to the Semis. Ray Guy is the greatest punter and he's never made it in. BMitch had every opportunity to play every down and the coaches decided they only give him the opportunity to touch the ball 3-5 times a game. Sounds like a guy who's HOF worthy. If he's such a gamebreaker, they would have looked for more opportunities to get him the ball. How many HOF players who carried the ball and only averaged 2 TDs a season?

I like BMitch a lot, I just don't think his resume gains him entry to the HOF. All Purpose Yds is a ridiculous stat...it means nothing. If you want an example, here's a list of the last 10 APY Leaders, how many were All-Pro for their year, much less should be thought of as HOF material?

Of this list the only guys who got the majority of their yds from Non-Special Teams plays were Steven, Tiki and Priest...I can see you all making a case for these guys. But, I'd love to hear your case for Josh Cribbs, even though I love my DC players, I don't think its in the cards for him.

If we were talking about Mel Gray or Allen Rossum, or Steve Tasker for that matter, you all would think that this thread was a joke. But since he's a Skin, it's time to back the man. Well, I think it dumbs down the accomplishments of Art Monk, Darrell Green and so many other Skins who deserved it. Pretty soon it's going to be like the Baseball HOF when they elect Goose Gossage in...and I still have no idea why.

Heh my undying memory of him being a 3rd down back is that they'd put him in on your typical Redskins 3rd down of the mid 1990s...i.e., 3rd and 18, and essentially tell him:

"Brian, here put on your Superman Cape and go get us a first down. By yourself."

He'd get a shovel pass, or some 1 yard swing pass, run as hard as possible, and get like 16 yards.
