Danny is the GM....who knew???

Post by tribeofjudah »

Vinny is just a puppet, and Danny is the Master of puppets. But we all knew that already.

This exposes them once and for all as the real culprits in the team's collapse. The solution is plain: Snyder must fire Cerrato and hire a competent, detached executive, one who will restore some reason to the organization.

The Redskins have gone 68-82 since 2000, yet Snyder has consistently refused to make a change. Why? Presumably, because he doesn't want to. You wonder if Snyder keeps Cerrato around not because he's a good exec, but precisely because he's a weak one.

........................The suspicion here is that Snyder has always been the real GM of the team. So let's ask the question: Why is he such a bad one? One answer is that he lacks the emotional detachment to make good decisions. Snyder clearly cares passionately about the Redskins, and it's hard to make rational, restrained choices about your passion.

The chief thing a strong GM does is tell people, including the owner, no. He mediates egos, settles disputes, provides a buffer between various strong personalities, sorts through the complicated passions that come with winning and losing, and keeps everyone on the same page and working in the same direction. That the Redskins lack anything like a strong GM is evident from the fact that everyone is working at cross-purposes. Coaches, players and the owner are all at odds.

...........The reason strong GMs prefer to build through the draft rather than free agency is because it's cheap, and allows teams to take the real measure of players. Free agents aren't just expensive; they're unpredictable -- witness Adam Archuleta. Familiarity with players is a double-edged sword, and the most difficult emotional decision a GM has to make is to let go of an aging player who is deteriorating. One of the reasons coaches and owners tend not to make good GMs is because they become too invested in certain players.

Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

I heard from someone recently that the difference between an owner, the head coach and a good GM is that the owner and the head coach are more interested in success in the near term and a good GM is more focused on trying to ensure long term success - a little simplistic maybe but .... :)
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I know this stuff is depressing for all of us fans. But I'm hoping this kind of media pressure/scrutiny will force Snyder to do the right thing.

You mean DS is the defacto GM or that there was a negative Skins article in the Washington Post or that Sally Jenkins wrote it.

None of that is news!

Should they be writing glowing reviews? There aren't two sides to this issue - the team is really bad.

I, for one, read each article written like this one, and each story like the one about Gannon talking to Snyder, with a sense of hope. Hope that with enough coverage, it will penetrate the bubble and Snyder will realize what he's doing wrong and actually change. Possibly the best thing that could happen for the long term of this team is for the Monday Night Football people to spend the entire night embarrassing Snyder on national TV. Just stop covering the game in the middle of the first quarter, like they do with their guests, and spend 15 minutes going off on him.
With the Cardinals reaching the Super Bowl, is Dan Snyder officially the worst owner in the league?

I definitely think Vinny is nothing more than a "Yes Man". The reason Dan didn't want to hire a GM is because HE was the GM. Why he thinks he is qualified to make decisions regarding the team is more than beyond me. I'm guessing that Dan thought this would be the year the franchise would "turn the corner" and get back to the winning glory days that I think most of here can remember.

If Dan wasn't making the decisions, there would have been no reason for all the confusion out at Redskin Park about some of the worst possible decisions ever made.

I'm banking on the fact that these tough times won't last and that there might be a bright future for this franchise, but only if Snyder discontinues his standard operating procedure.

I'm not anti-Redskins, I'm just anti-dumb decisions.

No, that is about all they have to write about right now, but this team could be 6-0 and they would find all of the negatives to right about. Sally Jenkins ONLY writes articles that are negative!
