Fire Vinny Cerrato!

Post by danegotti »

He sure is a smooth talker and he is a "people person" but that's not enough. We need a real football GM to take control.

We all know the offensive problems stem from no offensive line - this wasn't addressed in the off-season at all. BRILLIANT. Now, to solve all the problems, we hire an offensive consultant (now calling the plays) who used to be employed by the Detroit Lions? - a team that doesn't know anything about winning.

Hahahahaha - all I can do is laugh now.

SMOOTH TALKER?? He fumbles, bumbles, mumbles everything that comes out of his mouth.

Because half of it seems to be permanently attached to you-know-who's you-know-what.

Yawn

Is there any disagreement on this issue? Yes, we need a new and better GM. But I don't expect Danny to see that.

PFT said yesterday that Cerrato and Zorn are linked. If Zorn goes, Cerrato is likely to follow. Best news I read all day.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/10/18/zorn-cerratos-fates-apparently-are-intertwined/

Redskins fans, there might be signs of hope in D.C., after all.

We're hearing that there's a strong belief within the Redskins organization that the fates of coach Jim Zorn and V.P. of football operations Vinny Cerrato are tied together.

So if/when Zorn goes, Cerrato could be dumped, too. (There's a chance Zorn would go after the Eagles game next Monday, and that Cerrato wouldn't be fired until after the season ends.)
With the Cardinals reaching the Super Bowl, is Dan Snyder officially the worst owner in the league?

the real problem is is that we need a new head coach and if we don't get rid of vinny then all the big names won't come here, i.e. shanahan chower, holgrem. So we will end up with jim vorn part 2

I agree with you IB. But this can be a counter-productive measure.

Daniel Snyder can sacrifice Vinny and STILL use somebody else as a puppet to carry on his capricious decisions and terrible management.

No, the answer is NOT ONLY to fire Vinny but to fire Vinny AND hire a competent GM with full control over the team.

Firing Vinny would only be a smoke screen without putting a competent person aa a GM of this team.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

I'm telling you (or at least I did in prior posts). Vinny is really pulling out all the stops to save his job. I can feel it. Hiring Sherm, forcing him to call plays. Keep the heat on fans. I feel that we're close to the end. Vinny's reign in DC is almost over.

Keep the pressure on fella's. Keep your anger pointed in the correct direction...not the coach, not the players, not the fans, but directly at Vinny.

You got the media talking about it, former players, current players and if our fan base keeps the focus squarely on Vinny...Dan will know it too.

I don't share this optimism that Vinny will be fired (much as we'd all like to see it). Dave McKenna had a story about why Vinny won't be fired in the Washington City Paper a year or so ago. Basically, Snyder talked Cerrato into investing a ton of money into his venture to take over Six Flags, and Snyder promptly lost most of that money in his bungled handling of that business. If you talked a friend into investing (and then losing) millions of dollars, could you make it worse by firing that friend? I'll bet Vinny is here to stay, because Snyder would feel too guilty if he fired Cerrato.

Not sure I buy that Mursilis. Snyder is a businessman, and all businessmen know that firing underperforming friends isn't personal, it's just business.

Right, I agree with that. Vinny's a big boy. He didn't have to invest in Six Flags for Pete's sake. And you ask who Pete is...well that's a whole 'nother story.

No doubt about it. Vinny has to go, and Snyder has to bring in somebody qualified to rebuild the team.

I've been thinking alot about it, and I'm just willing to invest any more of my time and money in this team if this doesn't happen at the end of the season.

I know that my opinion isn't going to get Snyder to do the right thing. But I have a feeling a lot of fans are coming to the same conclusion.

If your boss is telling you to invest in his side project, do you really have a choice?

Maybe you're both right, and it's got nothing to do with why Vinny still has his job, but in the absence of a better theory, how else do you explain the fact Cerrato's still here? Do you think he's kept his job strictly based on his performance?!? Is this a championship roster? Is it even CLOSE?!?

If a 'new GM' is brought in and allows the puppet strings to be attached -- he's no better than Vinny and has the same zero-level of professional self-worth.

If it's that big of a weight on his conscious, he will give him a severance and send him along his way. I don't think this is why he's still here.

OK, let say we fire Cerato (and don't get me wrong he should go), who do you get to replace him.

I have heard plenty of people say fire Vinny and hire a good GM. Well good GMs don't grow on trees and who picks said GM? I'm asking this question for two reasons:
- I haven't heard of any GMs that are available that would be an improvement (don't give me Casserly his record with the Skins is actually worse - and if you don't agree with that - it certainly isn't a big improvement!) Maybe this deserves a thread all it's own.
- I also want to point out that Snyder will be picking the new GM - what makes you think he can identify a good GM. Things could get worse (I'm having a hard time seeing how - but they could!)

Who should the Danny hire as the next GM (if bugs eyes is let go)? I have to say I have no idea who is available or could be available, but I can tell you I don't want a GM/coach. No Shanny or Holmgren. I would prefer a GM that hires the next coach. Not a coach that thinks he can be a GM (or gets saddled as the patsy for more Snyder induced recklessness)!

I don't think this is as insurmountable a problem as you're suggesting. Its not like trying to land a franchise QB or something. I'm sure there are at least 32 smart football guys out there who can act as GM and put together a good football team over a couple years. At least do a better job than Cerrato. The key is getting Snyder to let go and give that person the authority to do the job right.

If you don't believe me on this, I thought Wilbon laid it out pretty well in his column last week:

A dear friend who knows the men who know personnel and are ready to build a football team tells me Chris Polian is atop a list of five guys he'd hire right now to run a football operation that wants to win and not just show: Eric DeCosta of the Baltimore Ravens, Mark Ross of the Giants, Rick Spielman of the Vikings and Tom Ciskowski of the Cowboys. That's his list, and I know if I had asked he could have gone 10 deep.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 03177.html

So Wilbon just gave you a list of five quality guys just to start interviewing.

How about Marty Schottenheimer for GM and maybe let him bring in his son to be the head coach?

Glimmer of hope with respect to Vinny?

From Redskins Insider:

I've also received a lot of email on another topic recently: the future of Vinny Cerrato, Washington's executive vice president of football operations. Cerrato strongly recommended Zorn and was a driving force behind the team's switch to a West Coast scheme, and those moves have not worked out well. During the previous coaching search, a source told me Cerrato would play a big role in the decision and that Snyder made it clear to Cerrato that he would be held responsible for the coach's performance. I guess we'll see soon enough if that's correct.

Again, unnamed source (those RI guys are SO professional), but...it reinforces my earlier point: in the end, Snyder is a businessman, and will fire Cerrato if his friend doesn't perform his job adequately.

I read on Pro football Talk this morning, that Zorn and Vinny's job are intertwined together. The speculation is that Vinny will be canned at the end of the season! I Sure hope so! I pray this happens.

Also on another note, Did anyone hear the Sports Junkies last week speculate that Daniel Snyder is going to sell the Redskins to Joe Gibbs! They said that Snyder is hurting for money, since Six Flags and Johnny Rockets have gone bankrupt. I am unsure whether Snyder being hurting for money is accurate, given the profit he has made on the Skins, plus he owns Redskins Radio.

Any other insight on this?

I say you bring in Dungy as Team President and have him lay the plans. I'm sure he'd bring in Polian's son.
