I'll be sporting my #60 jersey all weekend in his honor (it's my favorite because it works here on Saturday AND Sunday).
Since Chris Samuels, on the first day of the draft:
O-Line: 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
D-Line: 0
WR: 4

I think we all knew deep down inside that if anything did ever happen to Chris that we would be in real trouble. I know i said it but I can't blame the team for picking Orakpo I would have too. It will take many years to get a line but I will watch and root for them like always. Just more growing pains for us.

but they could have used the rest of the draft to pick another o lineman. Just imagine, we could have landed Orakpo and then still got Oher later in the draft from Ol Miss.

I hope for Chris' recovery so that his life with his family can be all it was meant to be.

You know, in a different time, 60 would have been just as dominant pulling with 68 on Counter Trey.

and it would have taken many more years for them to develope. Unless we are talking about guards.

I think that Oher has proven he can play right away - Look at Joe Thomas, Jake Long (still never given up a sack in his 2nd year) just to name a few.

Man, what bad news. Hope for a full recovery. He's been one of the bright spots over the past 10 years...A core Skin.

I blame this 100% on Vinny

Wow this sucks! When I saw him get hit I could tell imediately that he was hurt, even before his knees hit the ground. The strange thing is, the hit (even though it was helmet to helmet) didn't look that bad!

I guess you never know!

How would they have gotten Orakpo and Oher, aside from trading at least this years #1 draft pick (which is likely going to be a high one)?

Samuels.....may retire

Report: Samuels may be forced to retire
Comment Email Print Share
ESPN.com news services

Washington Redskins left tackle Chris Samuels could miss the rest of the season and may have to consider retirement after suffering a stinger in Sunday's loss to the Carolina Panthers, according to a report.

NFC East blog

Mosley ESPN.com's Matt Mosley writes about all things NFC East in his division blog.

• Blog network: NFL Nation

The six-time Pro Bowler, who already had been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs, will have the injury re-evaluated Tuesday, sources told The Washington Post.

Samuels suffers from stenosis, a narrowing of the spine that causes him to wear a neck brace for extra protection when he plays, and was already dealing with significant knee pain all season, according to the paper.

Coach Jim Zorn told The Post that the injury is possibly more severe than they originally thought.

"I think it is concerning, because we care about his health," Zorn told The Post. "Because of the other doctors involved in trying to read this thing, it's the time that it's taking to get any answers -- that's what's hard. We just have to wait it out.

"But we're going to think very positive about this situation. I think he is as well. He's got an excellent attitude towards the waiting. That's the frustrating part, is just waiting for the results."

So at this point, we're either looking at picking up a quality LT and a starting Caliber RT, as well as a RB and if Zorn/Campbell go, a franchise QB. That's assuming MWilliams can play Guard since no one else can, in addition to a backup OT unless we can use Heyer at LT(We'll know after this game). I've been trying to believe that our team's structure isn't that much different than winning teams but the truth of the matter is

- we can't absorb anything -

And we won't be able to as long as we continue to change coaches with this mismatched roster. To me, this is the biggest reason for the constant offseason turnover, that new coaches want new personnel and have little choice but to mix and match parts from the old team to fill out a roster with their own. No coach here is ever going to wheel out a well-manufactured vehicle(roster) on opening day with the right replacement parts on the sidelines. We'll always have good coaches with potentially great gameplans being undermined by driving on a fresh new wheel, two used tires and a donut(a.k.a. Samuels, Kendall and RThomas, and Heyer with no backup)

I don't feel like arguing this point but for what it's worth, I'm still in favor of giving Zorn time to put together his own roster without Joe Gibbs' spoilers and sunvisors before letting another potentially good coach take this team to the chopshop.

Man, I would hate to see him go. He's had a fabulous career.

+1 on this. Sad news indeed.

Skin will look nothing like this next year. I mean, Samuels, Thomas, both will be done, retired.

Here is the latest update:
Chris Samuels could retire due to neck injury
Posted by Mike Florio on October 21, 2009 3:29 PM ET
Redskins left tackle Chris Samuels, a fixture on the offensive line since arriving as a rookie in 2000, possibly has played his last down in D.C.

Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Samuels will visit a specialist in Los Angeles regarding whether Samuels will be able to continue his career.

Samuels is not expected to play again this year, and Schefter says that some within the organization think that Samuels will never play again.

One source told Schefter that Samuels is privately saying that he plans to retire.

Samuels was the third overall pick in the 2000 draft, the second half of a back-to-back series of selections by the Redskins. With the second overall pick in 2000, the Redskins selected linebacker LaVar Arrington.

Nope they pretty much feared that last week too! They were afraid of that the day after the first Doctor looked at the MRI.

They have been waiting on this specialist to get off of vacation since Samuals got hurt.

We will have to wait to hear what Jake has to say on this subject but I feared the worst and awaited confirmation with some anxiety. It now has been confirmed.

Thanks Chris!!!!

ESPN is just piggy-backing off of the Redskins Insider post mentionin that it may be career ending. I sure hope it isn't but his personal health is more important than his contribution to a football team.

I'm holding out hope and keeping my fingers crossed until a final verdict is reached. I wouldn't mind seeing him sit out this year if it meant he could come back next year.

I think it's ironic I've seen his (potentially) last two season ending (maybe) injuries. Last year in Baltimore and this year in Carolina. Might be an omen. I might be bad luck for the guy.
