I think that a lot of us originally thought that the brunt of the blame should go to Zorn. But after listening to Coach John Thompson today, he nailed it.
For any of us to expect Zorn to be any better than where he is right now is ridiculous. We knew coming in that he was hired based off of his talent and vision. He was hired b/c they thought he could develop this team. He has had 20 games to turn water to wine and if he's fired, then no coach is going to want to come here. The leash is too short.
This is me summarizing what he said but it made total sense to me. Zorn didn't have the experience. We all knew that. He had only called plays in College. He had only been a QB coach in the Pro's. So for us to have standards where we do, the blame is on us - and the owners for setting those standards because they really were not obtainable.

I think that article makes an interesting point, Synder did not expect Joe Gibbs to quit, as such he was faced with hiring a new head coach 1-2 years early then expected. The prime candidates like Holmgrem, Cowher etc were taking a break from coaching so he had to look at alternatives, I'd be surprised if Zorn would have even got an interview for HC if one of the aforementioned had stated their availability.
Vote for Chuckie in 2010 and new O-line
I believe that Gruden would be the best choice for this team, and that Holmgren would be a great VP and then Danny boy can sit and watch. Probably won't happen wishful thinking, but I think if these changes were made the Skins would be one of the better teams in the NFC. Now I know that the O-Line needs to be addressed, but that's an easy fix, get three new linemen a center, left tackle (move samuels to right), and a right guard. Let Thomas, Rabach go and keep Reinhardt, Williams, Dockery, Samuels, new center, new left tackle (rookie), right guard (rookie). Lastly, pick-up another back cause CP is done finished his career is over and Riggo's record will still be intact. CP Riggins would not have been tackled for a safety. The first four picks should be spent on four lineman, but then again, we trade away all of our picks.

My vote is plain and simple - get a qualified GM in here and then let him decide on a coach. I'm all for even Zorn staying but I would get another O.C. who is in the WCO to call the plays. Then Zorn can focus on running the team solely.
I read somewhere or heard that the Tuna is in his last year of his contract. I highly doubt he would come here but if he was interested, I'd pay him to come in and fix this team like he's done in Miami.
One other name that has been thrown out there is Charlie Casserly (B. Mitch). I could see him coming here too. I wouldn't mind seeing Pat Kirwin either.

Riggins would not have been tackled for a safety.
Perhaps... but Riggins would never have been asked to run off tackle from there, either.
I prefer that we pass on Chucky.... He won the SB with Dungy's team, Tampa was always declining the more years he coached there. I prefer Holmgren. I mean why get the branch wen you can get the tree.
But, under that same logic, the team that got there to face him was his team, one he had taken to the playoffs repeatedly.

sorry guys but i,ve about had it with this crap.
He would, but the league rules prevent him from doing that as an owner. He would have to sell the team. Shhh. Nobody tell him the rule. If he does it, we can finally get rid of him. Unless he sells the team to Vinny.

Bringing in Gruden still does not address the main problem...
Any way we could come up with a chant for games? Like...
WE WANT BOBBY (as in Beathard) or
FIRE VINNY or
We want an owner not a slack jaw idiot

Gruden would be my first choice given the circumstances. He's an excellent coach with a lot of fire, and did much more with much less at TB. TB ownership wouldn't spend the money needed for Gruden to continue his earlier success.
As much as I think Zorn is a nice guy .. and believe that the big error was in hiring an inexperienced coach .. he's just not the answer here, and that is painfully obvious at this point.
I guarantee you wouldn't be hearing Gruden tell his players to "stay medium", and I bet he'd be inserting his foot in players rear ends if they played 4 miserable games against winless teams.
Given the FO structure here, Gruden is the man. And I believe that the combination of an owner willing to spend the money and a proven coach who's shown he can get the most out of the talent he has... respectability would be a sure thing. Once Gruden established a solid team mentality, his influence on personnel decisions would grow, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a big turn around.
Always liked Gruden. He's a slick dude, with extensive football knowledge and knows how to coach and motivate.
Look where TB is without him right now.

I am down with a Gruden hire. I think he will demand a lot from our players, something Zorn hasnt seemed to do thus far. Gruden is young and hungry. He wants back in and he wants to win.
Heres to Zorn going 9-2 from her on out.

Gruden is a good coach. I am not sure how he will interact with management, though. As long as Danny and Vinny are making decisions, does it really matter???
All anyone in the NFL sees in this organization is either a big paycheck or a retirement plan. Until we get people in here with something to prove, we won't get very far.

RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.

Does Peyton come with hiim, if so I'm in?
Even If Dungy wasn't retired (and I think it is a real retirement) I wouldn't want him. Not that I don't think he isn't a good coach, but we have had enough passive coaches. Our players have no on field leadership (players that is) so they better have one one the side line. This whiny, lazy excuse of a group of underperforming no loads needs someone that will light a fire under them or put a foot up their butts.
I don't like Chucky, I would just hate lookin gat him every week, but he is exactly the type of coach we need.
Cower fit the mold pretty well too. Imagine our D running a 3-4 orchastrated by Cower (maybe with some help from Dick Lebeau after he is fired). Wilson and Orakpo as OLB and Fletcher and Rock in the middle.
I just want someone that will make it uncomfortable at Redskins Park, maybe if they fear for their jobs they will play better.

Great coach ... doomed to failure with the same FO. Why would he want to tarnish a great reputation the way Joe Gibbs almost did ???
But T. Dungy is a serious and knowedgeable man. He knows what the main problem is here at the top. He will not accept to come here unless there is a GM he can trust.
A competent GM and T. Dungy would be too good of an idea for the owner.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!
I agree with DEHog about Dungy - I think some fans mistake what they 'see' from this guy - I think that the success he has had at both places has been due to his ability to both motivate and communicate - not too sure if Dungy will come out of retirement though as I think he feels he can do more by staying out of the game - bit of a shame as he is a really good coach
we need a change of culture here and that should start at the top - I'm not sure that just bringing in a new coach and revamping the roster is going to help much here - it could get better but that is not a given in that it looks like Snyder is resisting any changes to how the team is managed. IF Snyder wants to remain the top dog (figuratively speaking) and brings in someone to replace Cerrato and his scouts then we might have a chance here, unfortunately the best and quickest route cannot happen while Snyder and his cronies continue to think they can get this done

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
Here's my favorite Dungy story...Rod Marenelli who was his D-Line coach in Tampa is getting after it with his player. they just finish up there drills, there're sweating and tired and he thinks they've had a great practice...Dungy walks over and says...Hey coach you think we can run those drill at full speed tomorrow!!
I'd take Dungy over any coach right now.
