Young Skins fans

Post by fredp45 »

My son is 21 and a huge Skins fan...I feel so sorry for fans like him, all he's seen is absolute and total incompetence. At least, I've seen the Skins win and actually win with some authority. Of course, at my age, remembering those days is becoming harder and harder.

I know it isn't good to say, never, or always or make decisions in the heat of the moment, but I decided today after that loss, to NOT re-up the Sunday Ticket next year. I will not let Snyder's "wins" in March and April sway me this time. I've let that happen for the past few years.

I pay a crap-load of money to, in essence, ruin my Fall Sunday afternoon's. The only good news is, my son and all his buddies can watch the games too...pulled from my Sunday ticket onto his PC and shown on a big TV at his frathouse. They love it. At least someone is happy that I spend all this money for nothing.

To those of you who are say, 30 years old and Skins fans -- you're better fans than me.

I hear and feel your pain brother. You and I are about the same age and have similar aged family. My son does not want to seat with me to watch the games anymore. I arrived at a similar conclusion a while back. Snyder is NOT getting any of my money for ANYTHING AT ALL.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

Hell, the rehab is watching this team find another way to lose. I don't know if I can watch them play 12 games this year. I'm pretty sure we'll be either 2-10 or 3-9 by then.

hey Fred...I already made that choice for this year. Last year I would've only missed like 3 games without the ticket. I decided that I was wasting money so I cancelled. Now, as it turns out, the Skins are worse than we could've imagined and I am SOOO happy that I'm not pissing away that cash for Sunday Ticket and seeing this team look pathetic.
You'll always be remembered Sean. R.I.P.

The real tragedy of a 30-year old fan (just turned 31 last week)?

1. Recent season ticket holder
2. Repeat - recent season ticket holder
This means faint childhood memories of RFK, no current home field advantage, huge $$$ for a crappy product... etc., etc. etc.
3. Childhood built around watching a franchise that teaches you how win not only games, but win at life. (exception was watcher good 'ol Dexter Manly). Now we have the reverse.
4. Having to question whether watching this week after week is healthy for not just yourself, but your young, new family.
5. We are too young to have this much gray hair (or none in some cases). How many games have come down to the wire over the past 10 seasons? Ugh!
6. Having to explain to the next generation WHY you like the Redskins.
7. Wasting far too much time on the Internet trying to make sense of it all.
8. Merchandise is more expensive than a vacation for 4 to ski in the Rockies.
9. You only embarrass your boss with the "never die" spirit.
10. The best time of the year to follow football falls between February and April.

Champsturf...good move. It takes me a little longer to see the light but I gotta say, I see it now, bright and clear! Hell, it's blinding me!!!

Even the morning after, I'm still convinced, I'm turning out the Sunday Ticket lights. (ever notice how it isn't the "entire" Sunday Ticket? It's the Sunday afternoon ticket -- you don't get the Sunday night game. I've called Directv about this a number of times because I don't get NBC from directv, as my local NBC affliate won't release it).

Not having the Ticket next fall will not only free up my Sunday afternoons but it'll make me easier to live with. My wife won't watch the Skins with me anymore. I become the biggest jerk in the world. I can mentally handle a game where the other team is better than us and beats us fair and square. BUT, to give games away, week after week, I can't accept that. Ask my family, my favorite line is, if I made this many mistakes at work, they'd fire me!!

All I can say is, come on Friday night -- midnight madness!! Can't wait for Terps basketball. They'll have a pretty good team this year, and the best part is, they won't give games away each and every night!

I'm not calling you a loser but Im so sick of hearing Redskin fans say this and it's the mindset of a loser.

And I'll tell you what, that list of teams to name that are worst than us is getting smaller. At least we aren't the Lions? Oh wait.

I'm 25 and would drop anything for the Skins but no longer. I just DVR games and go on about my business.

Well said. For me, at 35 I have asked many of these questions but especially number 4. I think next Sunday I am going to take the kids and my wife out to the Pocono's to ride bikes and look at the changing leaves. I will check the score of the game on the Blackberry but I can't justify watching the game on my laptop from FrankCal's feed while my kids basically wait for the game to get over so we can do something fun.

Little melodramatic aren’t we fellas..I have a 14 year old and we have a great time at the games. It’s a game, entertainment, a distraction to take us away for a few hours from the real issues in life.

Cleg...

I agree, spend time with your kids. When your kids are like mine, 21 & 23 and not living at home, you won't say to yourself, I sure wish I had watched the Skins play the Chiefs that Sunday in October 2009!

I'm not following you? I'm a loser because the two teams who play on the local affiliates here, including the one from the city I live in are awful. I don't get how it is a loser mentality to want to watch a decent football game on a Sunday aside from watching the Skins implode on an internet stream?

You can cancel now can't you? It's a monthly charge I'm pretty sure, so you can tap out anytime. When they lose to KC I'll probably cancel mine.

waah waah waah. Why does there have to be a proclamation when you cancel your entertainmant package? Did I come here when I cancelled my online game b/c IT wasn't fun anymore? Get over yourselves. If it's not fun, just stop. There doesn't need to be a public decree about it.

And if you stop watching the games, you also should stop whining about the games and the team.
...any given Sunday....

RIP #21 Sean Taylor. You will be loved and adored by Redskins fans forever!!!!!

GSPODS:
The National Anthem sucks.
What a useless piece of propagandist rhetoric that is.
