Cerrato said it has not been determined what Lewis' role will be.

"They'll get that figured out here in the next day," Cerrato said.

Cerrato doesn't even know what his role will be yet? Didn't he just hire him? :?
That has to be one of the most idiotic quotes I've heard in a long time. And that's saying something iwhen it comes from Vinny.

This madness must stop.

This WCO experiment goes against everything this franchise built it's success on. It goes against its identity. Heck, it's not even a new system. It had great success 10-15 years ago. But times have changed. I'd be at least somewhat excited if we hired some dude who created the Wildcat O. At least that would be moving forward, not trying to emulate success (again) that some other team had years ago. And yes, I am fully aware that the Spurrier thing did not work out, but that hiring was doomed before it even began and had little to no research involved.

With all these Shermans (Smith & Lewis) the offense should be burning it up from here on out. :-)

Sadly this team lacks the ferocity and killer instinct that general Sherman displayed.

Welllllll.... it could also be a reference to the famous M4 Sherman tank of WW2, which was known to burn so readily that the Germans called them "Tommy Cookers".

Damn, does anyone know what a consultant is? He's not a freakin coach. for the stupid:

con·sul·tant (kn-sltnt)
n.
1. One who gives expert or professional advice.

I highlighted the important part.

Zorn came in to be O Coordinator first, and then got promoted. I imagine that the switch from QB coach to HEAD COACH is probably a rough transition and just may be too much to adapt to all at one time for Zorn. There's no shame in that. I think he'd be a fool not to welcome the help. It can't hurt.

The one that should be concerned is Zorn's buddy Sherman Smith.
...any given Sunday....

RIP #21 Sean Taylor. You will be loved and adored by Redskins fans forever!!!!!

I have no sympathy in Zorn. He should have hired Sherm Lewis from the beginning instead of Sherman Smith. Zorn is inexperienced, he needs help.

Agreed. He will help with the little things. I think the biggest thing he'll help out with is getting started. Seems Zorn is having a very tough time getting out of the gates in games. Once he gets to the meat of his playbook, the team doesn't look half bad, but by then the defense is totally worn out with all the time they've spent on the field. So the first half is spent with the Offense going 3 and out and the second half is spent with the defense not able to get off the field. I really think this is a good move. One I suggested a week ago by bringing in Holmgren. To add a set of eyes and to figure out what the hell is going on. Problem with adding Holmgren would have been the ego battle between he and Zorn. Sherm is a good fit for this assignment.

On ESPN 980 they are speculating the once Sherman Lewis is up to speed with our personnel Zorn will be fired and Blache will take over as interim HC. I think that they are dead on with their assessment.

Wow Vinny is a moron. On ESPN980 they just played a clip from the press conference last night with Vinny to announce the Sherman Lewis hiring. A reporter asked Vinny a question about Sherman retiring in 2005 and what he has been doing since. Vinny, the clown that he is, pauses and then says something along the lines of "Uh, professionally I think that he may have been out of football since then. However, his son is the defensive coordinator at Eastern Michigan." Hahahahaha. Our front office is run by this idiot. WOW.

Hate the FO, I do, not the TEAM. They need our support. They are in rougher shape than we are.

So our Gm Vinny has... Well... LOL Someone has hired this guy and our "GM" doesn't even know what his job duties are. Only with the Redskins do you hire for a position that has no defined responsibilities.

I liked Jason Reid's take on this hiring today:

It would seem likely that he will quickly determine that the Redskins need to get much better on the offensive line, add a speed back to the running game, run routes as they're supposed to be run in the West Coast offense and improve the talent level overall on offense. Or perhaps he'll determine coaching is the Redskins' only problem.

Snyder needed to hire yet another person to tell him these things?

A few thoughts:

1. Snyder could have learned a lot just by reading the message boards. He'd save a lot of money that way.

2. As mentioned on the radio all day today with interviews with Antonio Freeman - these WR's are not running their routes the way they are supposed to. MK said in the postgame interview vs. STL that he needs to work on his route running. This offense is 100% dependant on the bigger WR's being a large part of the offense and one of those guys needs to step up (kelly & Thomas). He said that Moss and ARE are too short to be a main target in this offense.

*** I think that he has to do something to get these younger guys going. Any of us can see that with the lack of pass blocking ability we have right now, these guys need to be where they are supposed to. Hopefully this new coach/consultant can light a fire or translate this offense better to the younger players. I truly feel that if we can get an effective passing game going, then our offense can open up a ton.

I hate to eat crow but I guess most of you guys were right about JC. I think Zorn may need Lewis because he is beginning to doubt himself with his play calling. He said this about the first half last Sunday. Losing confidence in your play calling has resulted in Lewis being here. Of course they aren't going to say what his responsibilities are right now. This guy needs to figure out whats going wrong first before that can happen.

I understand what you're trying to say, but gotta disagree with the sentence in yellow.

The O-line isn't in the top ten, but neither are they in the bottom 10. To try set this up as an major part of the failure of the passing game is just disingenuous. 9 sacks is not scary, and does not begin to explain the failures... Campbell has still moved the ball fairly well between the 20's... just can't seem to finish.

The O-line is not doing Portis many favors... but it's not the cause of the problems in the passing game. Pass pro hasn't been bad.

I wouldn't say it's the main problem but it's something that needs to be mentioned. I think our WR's ability to get separation is our biggest concern in the passing game. Hopefully this coach can help us change that.

Here's another something to nibble on from the post..
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 03650.html

On the conference call, Cerrato played down the significance of the hire, noting that the Redskins similarly brought in Bill Arnsparger as a consultant in 1999 to help the team's ailing defense, and in 2002 added Joe Bugel and Foge Fazio as midseason consultants to assist struggling first-year Coach Steve Spurrier.

Uh, bringing in those consultants WERE the kiss of death. Cerrato is such an idiot. He's trying to squash any rumors about this being the end of Zorn and he comes up with these examples???
