Eagles DT Simon skips minicamp

NFL.com wire reports

PHILADELPHIA (June 2, 2004) -- Pro Bowl defensive tackle Corey Simon will skip the Philadelphia Eagles ' voluntary minicamp this week.

Simon, a first-round pick in 2000, is entering the last year of his contract.

His agent, Eugene Parker, didn't return a telephone message left by The Associated Press.

That guy can play. If this somehow ends up with him leaving the Eagles, that would be a huge boost for everyone in the NFC East. That being said, I'm sure it's nothing. Those minicamps are mandatory, right? Oh, sorry Mr. Coughlin...

BAD IDEA. Not going for him. But the bad idea is trading one of your players into the same division. If you have to make that trade trade a draft pick. Players will come back and haunt you. The Eagles will regret trading Thrash. Teams always do.

to us,Especially for us. Payers always come back and hurt us. Plus I believe we should noy trade Gardner.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record here is why. He has showed hat he can get the job done. He will be in a system that benefits WRs like him and McCants. In Spurrier's system it is impossible for a possession receiver to be great. And only the #1 receiver will do very well. In Gibbs' offense it is possible for a #2 receiver and a possession receiver to put up 1000 yards. It is also possible (although unlikley) to have three 1000 yard receivers. Remember the posse.

If this guy leaves the Eagles I would say sign him, he would be a great pick up for the Burgendy and Gold.

You do have a point there Skinsfan. But, I have to say that Gardner probably would have had a good year had he not dropped all of those passes. Probably would have reached the 1000 yard mark. I would like to see McCants move up to number two. I think Thrash would make an EXCELLENT SLOT RECIEVER.

I have to agree that trading Gardner to the Eagles would be a bad move just because he can have great games and him and TO will do some damage. I would also have to agree that the draft pick is the way to go with this trade. Next year is his contract year maybe we could trade him to a team for the draft pick we gave Philly.

Simon is a STUD.

I saw a few Eagles games last year, my roommate was a Philthy Fan, and this guy is a real monster. He has this uncanny ability to read Screens and Draws.

Plus he can rush the passer.

Y'know on this first play EVER he sacked Aikman.

We should get him!

I would LOVE to sign Corey Simon but I doubt Philly would let him go. Why would they? He's their second best defensive lineman. All they're gonna do is just renegotiate his contract and encourage him to return to camp.

It's nice that he has Parker as his agent, though.

OMG this would be a dream come true if Simon leaves the Eagles and comes to D.C. Our D-Line will be umpteen times better with Simon in the middle.

If Williams wants him, Danny will find a way. Holding out from mini-camp, though, is not indicative of a "Gibbs-type" player. He wouldn't get past the character profiling.

Calm down fells, and clean up those messes in your shorts. He's not going anywhere just yet. He's still got a year left on his deal, and if he doesn't get a new one worked out he will be franchised.

He held out as a rookie to get his first deal done, so this is nothing new for him.

The camp was voluntary anyways. I wouldn't understand why the Eagles would let him go but anything can happen in the NFL.

Well, he could go the Trotter route and lift Joe Banner off the ground and threaten to kill him after he finds out he's been franchised. Still, that's a year away.

oops.....I meant to say the draft pick we would give philly if we did this trade.

For example, we give philly a number one and hopefully we can trade Gardner for a number one. Its just wishful thinking

"Voluntary" in name only, Boy Wonder. Many coaches use the "voluntary" part of it as a sort of litmus test to gauge the player's attitude.

Exactly. And, why not ? You're looking for guys that are serious, right ? Can you imagine back in the late seventies a brand new teammate not showing up for every practice he could get under his belt ? His life depended on it. The pay wasn't what it is now. These days, the guys have all the money they can spend, and they put off camps until the ones that the league say are okay to call "mandatory". Your skill, athleticism and team all suffer when you don't show.
I hated that when it happened to our HS team. The two or three guys that did well the game before decided that they were so good that they didn't need to practice, that the seventeen pushups they did to impress the girls twice a week were all they needed to jump right in. Guess what, 9/10 times, they were dead wrong. They were breathless during the first agility drills. (Call 'em 'walk-throughs', if you want to) Some of the bigger guys could push sleds just fine, but during side-to-sides, I lost them. Trippin' all over themselves. Plus, the guys that had been to every drill, every practice were kinda like, "How come I had to be here, and he didn't ?"
Can't be that much different at the Pro Level.
Football is football, right ?

i agree we dont want players even if they are great if they have bad attitudes our coach wants a team not a bunch of good players i believe all practices should be mandatory and if not the coach should make them earn the starting job back :D behind third string  how bout that
Rick is doing well we are going in for surgery on thurs. and will be in hosp through the weekend.
