The Official Skins at Lions Game Day Thread

Post by Redskin in Canada »

Come on Hog fans,

We are definitely the better team on the field and this is an opportunity to add new impetus to the season. Let us show them some love and keep things civil here.

I do not underestimate the Lions and they are improving rapidly but we have too much talent on the roster and each and every one of our players and coaches knows that we need a win to take the heat off their seats.

Things we all might be looking at:

1. OL play (pass protection and holes to run)

2. Jason Campbell (execution and judgment)

3. Receivers (WRs, TE and RB) ability to do something after the catch

and, perhaps more importantly,

4. Play calling in general but red zone play calling in particular.

One more thing, I would ike to know how they are going to use all or some of our RBs! (keeping in mind injuries and signigns)

Go Skins!

I'm looking for some good d-line pressure on the quarterback. If there is any team we should be disrupting, it's the Lions.

Can't wait for the game. The season is still young and there are many possibilities!

Good point.

If they give time to Stafford and Calvin, they might get something going ... I just think that our OL and pass rush is so much better this season. That is where the money went, right?

I do wonder whether we will see Jon Jansen play a few downs against his former teammates?

I just do not fathom seeing him in any other uniform other than burgundy and gold, weird, ... but that's just me.

Defense will dominate the game for us.

Short fields will lead to easy scores.

Time to get our heads right. Lets go skins!!!

The only grip I've had about our D is the inability to get off the field on 3rd down. We have allowed a conversion rate of 48% (a full 7 percentage pts higher than any other team in the top ten of defenses). I hope we put up 35pts but will settle for 28 :-)

I believe it's a 'prevent' strategy that the defense is employing, given the low production on offense ... i.e. the huge cushions our CBs give to the WRs to take away big plays. But I would like to see us tighten up, and play more press coverage, especially on 3rd downs. Playing 10 yards off the line on 3rd and 6 really does seem like a poor strategy that I think is responsible for much of these 3rd down conversions.

As for the game .. I'm slightly concerned about this one. I have no doubt that the defense can handle the Lions easily, but if the offense doesn't play better than they did last week ... well .. it could be trouble.

Against the Vikes, the Lions put up decent pressure on Favre, and stayed with them through the first half. With Randy Thomas out, it's going to come down to how well we can pick up the Lions blitzes, and how Campbell reacts to the pressure.

The Lions have nothing to lose, and will be letting it all hang out. The Redskins, on the other hand (particularly Zorn & Campbell) are under a microscope, and an ugly loss to the 0-19 Lions would be a disaster. It's a must win ... in game three.

Prior to the season start, the possibility of struggling against the Rams, and worrying about the Lions was unfathomable. But now ...

The offense simply must step up and put some respectable numbers on the scoreboard.

I don't want the Redskins to tank the season or anything like that, but I'm just past the point of caring if they win.

In my opinion if they win nothing will be gained from it. A successful season, however unlikely, may lead to another comtract for Cambell and Zorn who are outmatched.

Honestly, I would rather see us lose all year so we can get a crack at McCoy, Snead or Bradford.

Well, just don't be offended if people draw a fairly obvious conclusion about you based on this reasoning. ;)

There are less painful ways of getting a crack at McCoy or Bradford. And as a fan of almost 45 years, I've seen my share of frustrating stretches... but on my worst day, I've never wished for a loss, much less an entire season's worth.

In the end though ... it's just a football game, and the world will continue to turn regardless of the outcome.

less than 10 minutes to the turning point of the season. After the Skins win the superbowl, we´ll look back and say that this win was key to the teams non stop momentum jumpstart.

Tanking is when a team doesn't put forth much of an effort to win, or when they outright lose on purpose. The Boston Celtics did this a couple years ago to try and get Kevin Durrant in the lotto, and they fell to their worst possible position in the draft (5ht overall.)

It all worked out in the end because they traded that pick for Ray Allen and then traded half their roster for KG and won a title, but still.

I want the Redskins to try and win, and to put their best team on the field (with maybe some rookies here or there for evaluation.) but I don't really want them to be winning. We're clearly not going anywhere so what's the point?

Run the draw on second down at the 9 yard line.
