A lackluster fan base?? Part of the problem?
Yes. How else do you explain shouting boos at your home team before the
first home game of the season is over? How's that for support?
And yes, I do think that the fans who do that are part of the problem. I wish I could say that the Redskins have the greatest fans in the world, but we just don't.
People around here are crazy about this team.
Every city can say this. Talk is cheap. Show me real grassroots
support on Sunday. How about half of the stadium filled with black and gold jerseys (and those freaking towels) the night we played Pittsburgh? Thanks, you crazy Washington fans, that was awesome!
People need to wake up to reality. The Redskins have a
great history with a long tradition of a rabid fanbase. But that doesn't mean fans can do whatever they want and still be considered good fans. Bad fan behavior is bad fan behavior.
Want a counterexample? Look at Oakland. They have much less to be excited about than us. Aside from three good seasons ten years ago, it's been decades since they had anything to look forward to. They even have a worse owner and FO than us — the franchise is a complete disaster head-to-toe and has been for quite some time.
But if you take a little time to read what their media produces and gauge how the fans respond, the difference between Washington is night/day. Oakland fans actually support their team, and they are rabid in supporting them. I've paid attention to this in the past year (when I first noticed it) and always make sure to observe the crowd whenever an Oakland game is on TV.
Not really that surprising though.
On that, I can completely agree.
