If todays game is any indication of what is to come, the best thing that may come out of this year is that Campbell and Zorn won't be here next year, if they make it through the season.

Except for ey and Randle El, Portis for one play and Betts for one play, the offense didn't make the trip.

Not very enlightening hearing what he had to say. Did not pick up on any positive vibes. Of course that's to be expected. Hunker down. Long season ahead. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

He didn't hold it too long, he just never stepped up into the pocket. he had four yards in front of him. There is no excuse for letting that ball get slapped out of your hand by a guy driven deep by the tackle.

I am starting to see the light now. Since he was drafted I have always been a big believer in Campbell's talent... but he laid a huge egg today.

The Giants are a great team, so it's not just the losing to them that stings... it's that we had a real chance to win... and Jason Campbell is the main reason we didn't. The offensive line played very well and the defense seemed as good as advertised. Campbell lost this game.

Well, then it only takes three tons of bricks instead of just one.

However, the receivers never looked to be open. Not Moss and not Kelly. They looked dull, almost as if they didn't expect the Giants to try to cover them.

He didn't hold it too long, he just never stepped up into the pocket. he had four yards in front of him. There is no excuse for letting that ball get slapped out of your hand by a guy driven deep by the tackle.

That's what's so frustrating... I mean, I hate to sound like a wannabe scout, but every kid who had played Madden for an hour knows you need to step into the pocket to be successful.

The offensive line does not have eyes in the back of their heads. To them, you are directly behind them, only a few yards away from the LOS. When they have a guy blocked that far back from the LOS they will almost always let him go to their outside because the QB should still have plenty of space to step up and throw. Campbell lacks even basic awareness of where he is and where the defenders are. It's ridiculous.

I also hate to say this about a guy I don't even know... but Jason Campbell does not even seem very smart. He made a lot of stupid mistakes today, and just basically looked confused all game. I mean, get some headshots of him during today's game, he looked like he was taking a final exam he forgot to study for.

I promise you this .. he won't take responsibility. He won't be pissed with himself. He'll say exactly what he always says ... "We" need to get better. "We" need to look at the film and see where WE need to improve.

What Jason Campbell will never say ... and what he's had MULTIPLE OPPORTUNITIES TO SAY IS: "I didn't get the job done. I need to play better. It's up to me to make plays and get the ball to our play makers, and I didn't."

While I agree with you on the part that our offensive line looked good and that Campbell's 2 big mistakes lost us the game, I don't agree with the assessment that our defense looked good as advertised. We were advertised to make the jump from really good to elite and this defense looks the same as it did last year. Hopefully it meshes as the season goes along or we somehow start getting more pressure on the QB. If we don't get pressure on Bulger next week then we know nothing has changed with this defense.

I will say this as well. I was pretty dissapointed with the upgraded defensive pass rush. Manning had a ton of time back there.

And you are absolutely correct. He said exactly those things in the comcast post game interview. I was waiting for him to say something about his poor play, but instead it was a bunch of things the "team" needs to work on.

I agree it is early, but I mean to move on in the draft next year. We have been treading water for almost half a decade with JC.

Then again, the only other current roster option we have got us to the playoffs last time he played.

Come on guys, we faced probably the -BEST- DL in the NFL. No holes to run and our QB/OL combo were outmatched.

I am beginning to think that this season can become the last for Zorn as head coach. That is the sadest thing I came out with today.

We already knew about our limitations at OL and QB. Zorn called a horrible game today. He better improve real soon.

Yes we scored on a fake FG, but after driving the field, to get a first and goal. I'm more pissed that we only came away with a FG after Hall's INT.

That was the moment when I knew, deep down, that this game was out of reach.

Portis was not given the carries, we abandoned the run and it started on 2nd down with a reciever pass for a 12 yrd loss.

I am actually happy that Clinton did not get more attempts ...

... there were no holes to run through. Their DL outmatched our OL. Save Clinton for the remainder of the season.

Except for the first long run, Portis had a terrible day. Most of his carries were for no gain. Some will say that is because our offensive line is terrible, but I think that the OL played pretty well.

People are jumping all over Campbell, but I thought he played well enough. In fact, he didn't even get a chance to do anything until the second quarter, when we were already in a hole. Statistically he finished the game with a higher passer rating than Manning.

The conventional wisdom these days is that Portis is our workhorse on offense and that Campbell is our weak link. I think our weak links are our RB and our #1 WR.

Moss was muscled out of his routes by Webster. He was completely taken out of the game.

Campbell and Zorn need to trust Kelly more and get him the ball.

The int was Moss' fault, the pass behind moss on 3rd down and the Fumble were Campbell's fault.

They didn't get anything going until they went to passing in the last couple minutes. Zorn needs to realize when running is futile, i.e. Giants, Steelers, Ravens, Vikings.

2. Carlos Rogers needs to learn to catch.
3. Deangelo Hall needs to learn to tackle.
4. JC needs to learn to step up in the pocket.
5. Jim Zorn needs to learn to call a less predictable game.

Off the cuff, I'd say of your five (in order):

1. probably won't ever happen with any consistency if it hasn't already. ARE is about as heady a vet as there is, and still makes stupid rookie mistakes on gadget plays like that pass option...boggles the mind.

2. just as you cannot get blood from a turnip, you also cannot teach granite to yield.

3. Indeed, but how in the name of all that's decent HASN'T he learned how by now? I mourn the loss of football fundamentals.

4. I think JC knows how to do that, it's just not easily seen amidst all the drops he makes where he seems both dazed and confused...again, a mind-boggling condition.

Alas, JZ, in the mold of the old-timers like Lombardi, Halas and Lambeau, prefers to gameplan and playcall around a core set of plays that, IF run precisely and executed flawlessly, will generate positive yardage many more times than not. That's a gargantuan if however, and the premise is almost certainly obsolete in today's NFL...but there you have it.
