Why I believe the skins have already passed the Eagles.

Post by SkinFan 0-16 or 16-0 »

All the time all people have ever talked about is why the Eagles are going to the super bowl year after year after year. But if you look closely I believe that we have already passed them.

Coaching- Last year the Eagles coaching staff was alot better but now we blow them out of the water. I can think of 3 reasons why Gibbs is a bette coach. Superbowl one, Super bowl 2 and Super bowl 3. Not to mention that we have the greatest O line coach ever. And Gregg Williams' Defense was better than Jim Johnson's last year.
Advantage Redskins

Quarterback- Ramsey has the intellegence, toughness, a cannon for an arm, and a great QB helping him out. With Gibbs' tutoring he will be a star. Brunell has already shown what he is capeable of. But McNabb gets the slight edge because of his ability to get out of the pocket.
Advantage Eagles

Running Back- Do even have to say aanything? They let their best running back go, and we got a top 5 Back in the league. Not to mentin that we can fill every requirement backing him up.(Spped Agility, Power)
Advantage:Redskins

Tight End: LJ smith cant catch a cold and he is a receining tight end. Chad Lewis is on the last leg of his career but he is still effective. Rasby is one of the best blocking Tight End's in the League. Kozwolski is pretty good at everything.
Advantage: Push

FullBack/Hback: This is not really compareable. They are two different spots. Richie is a good full back. Cooley will be a good H Back.
Advantage: Push

WR core- Notice that I said core. Peoplae can say what they want about TO but my honest opinion is that I would rather have Coles. Coles brings that Mrvin Harrison personality. He does not curse out the coach when is not getting the ball. But TO does have talent. But try to think of the last time TO had to go without another good receiver. Never. Double team TO and its over. Doulble Team Coles and you have to worry about Gardner. If you double team both of them we still have McCants. After that we still have Taylor Jacobs and the Eagle's own James Thrash. They traded the wrong guy to the wrong team. Lets say you do double team TO. Todd pinkston, Freddie "one lucky catch"Mitchell, Billy McMullen. Come, on we can bring back D.Green and he could shutdown all of these guys.
Advantage: Redskins

O Line: We are pretty even acrooss the Borad with tiss. At the Tackles, C Sam edges out Thomas. And Runyan and Jansen are even. At the center Fraley edges out Raymer. But at Gaurd Thomas beats Maybery. And Dockery and Andrews are even. So we need one X Factor. The O line Coach Buges puts us over the top.
Advantage: Redskins

D line:  Check back on wednesday.
Advantage: Eagles

Linebackers. They cant even compete. Mike Barrow led the league in tackles. Washington will be a pro bowler next year, and oh yeah Did I mention LaVar.
Advantage: Redskins

Scondary: Michael Lewis and Matt Bowen are even. Dawkins is a little better than Taylor until he proves diffent. (Which He Will.) So it comes down to one thing corners. They let two premire corner's go, and we let one go, but we filled our spot with a former pro bowler. They filled theirs with a rookie an two corners with little experience.
Advantage Redskins.

Well sorry for such a long article but somebody had to write on with nothing in the Washington Post or Washington Times.

Well you forgot to talk about "chemistry", who gets the edge here???? The Eagles do!!!! We got alot of players and a new coach, they just got new players. They have a trusted system, we don't (yet). Your points are good, but until this team has "chemistry", the "better" players we have don't matter. I hate to be the 1 to admit it, but until WE prove different the Eagles & Cowboys are ahead of us. I'm sick of putting this team in the Superbowl every year because of how they look on paper. Dallas looked like crap on paper, but they had "chemistry" to bring them to the playoffs.

Sorry, but I have to disagree.

The Redskins have yet to do anything! Its only May. This is a league of put up or shut up, and right now we need to shut up and let our football playing do the talking. The Eagles have been to three back to back NFC championship games. They have had success in the playoffs, we haven't even been there since '99.

Talent on paper is pointless if it doesn't tranlate into wins. Right now that is where we are. I have no doubt that Gibbs will bring the right stuff, but unitl we start winning in oour own division then haven't done a thing!

you might think you know the eagles in and out but im sorry to say your terribly wrong with a alot of things. LJ Smith can't catch a cold? He is going to be one of the best TEs in the entire league he was only a rookie last year. The eagles secondary are alot better than the redskins also. No matter how much the eagles WRs get bashed they are much better than you would think. Todd Pinkston will have a great year this year and Freddie Mitchell is a solid slot reciever.

psuLaVar...are you sure you're in the right place ? Don't mind me if I'm wrong, but you live in Philadelphia and you seem to have some feelings for the Eagles.
Where exactly do you stand here ? It isn't your differing opinion I take issue with, it's the emotion behind your explanations and comparisions.

I pretty much agree with your assement. I only disagree in the area of team chemistry which has already been discussed. That is a huge factor but will come in time. This year we will see marked improvement, next year will be the takeover. Team chemistry goes beyond being friends with other players but knowing what that player is or is not going go to at any given time on the field without even talking. Our players won't have that for at least one season. Thankfully the our O-line has been intact for a while. Even though its a new scheme they should be used to each others tendencies, sadly I cna't say the same for the dline.

Sean Taylor is already better than Dawkins. Taylor is the best Safety in the league. Mark my words... next year he will vie for DPOY.

Hey dude...I have to disagree with the Pinkston is great. I honestly thought the Eagles would keep Thrash and cut Pinkston. Pinkston always chokes in the postseason and he never amounts to much in the regular season especially when he's up against a good corner. Either Springs, Smoot, or Bauman can shut him down. I'll put money on that too!!!!

You have to give credit, when credit is do! Dawkins does NOT suck. I believe Sean Taylor will eventually be better, but until Taylor actually plays a game, how can anyone say he's the best in the league?????? Right now I'd say Roy Williams is the best Safety in the league!

the way i see it, new aquisitions mean nothing until they prove thier worth on the field. i remember a lot of skins fans talking about how they were going to light it up on offense when spurrier came into the league. or how about every offseason when the skins sign big name free agents? i do think the skins will be much improved this year(mainly due to clinton portis) on offense, but i do think your d is gonna suffer this year. and how can you honestly believe that a player(sean taylor) who hasn't even played a down in the nfl is better than until last year(due to injury) was widely respected as the best free safety in the league?

I don't see how our defense could get much worse this year. With improvements in the front seven, and the loss of one outstanding corner and the addition of one outstanding safety (Who addmitedly has yet to play an NFL game) we can't get any worse. Still the biggest factor for the Redskins this year will be coaching....on both sides of the ball.

I was almost as excited about Gregg Williams coming to DC as I was about Joe Gibbs. Williams will get teh most out of these guys.

Let me know when they can shut down TO, too ... and LJ, and Catch&Roll, and Ritchie, and Westbrook, and Freddie. The Eagles offense is all about multiple weapons. With Pinkston as the weak link, it's not really that bad of a weak link to have. At least he's not the first option this season.

Im a huge Redskins fan i root against the Eagles every time the 2 meet, but the fact is the Eagles have been the better team for years. Until proven differently the Eagles are still the best team in the East.I get mad when people bash the Eagles because i also love them, and the city of Philadelphia, so when the fans get bashed I get really offended because Philadelphia has the best fans in the world because they are so passionate. They are misunderstood because they are so hungry for a championship, and everytime a teams gets close they lose in the worst possible way.

Pinkston is not a 1000 yard reciever but he can make some good ctaches. When teams forget about him and focus on TO Pinkston is going ot be able to do some damage.

He just has to work on his concentration this year. For example, not letting the ball bounce off his hands/helmet/jersey is a good start. :(

TO-Double team him.

LJ- Isnt he the same guy who dropped the pass wide open in the endzone, against the Bucs. Any of us could have kid in Pop Warner could have caught.

Catch&Roll- Who? :?

Ritchie-Bowen

Westbrook- Arrington

Freddie Mitchell- You have got to be kidding me :P . He had one lucky catch. Other than that you cant seem to find him when you need him.

Riiiiight. LJ drops one pass, suddenly he sucks. Sure thing. Freddie was a clutch receiver all year, but he has only one catch to his credit, and it was pure luck that he caught it. Arrington is going to cover Westbrook, but now you have no spy on McNabb. Don't you know all he does is run anyway? Sheesh!

As for all the debates about chemistry. I phrased my arguement wrong. On paper we have passed the Eagles.

Usually we flop, when we have this. But what is different about this year?

You guessed it COACH JOE GIBBS!!!!!!!

I am banking on it. Quote me on it, do what ever you want. I am stepping forward to say that Coach Gibbs, WILL, ( not should) make us a very good team THIS YEAR!!!!!

I hate the eagles with a passion, but they have been a much better team then us in the past few years. Lets be realistic, unitl we beat them on the field there going to be better then us and as of late we just havent been able to get it done on the field against them. I hope and beleive this year will be different, but the eagles are just about as solid of a football team you can have in this day and age. My best friend is from philly and ive lost alot of money to him on skins, eagles games in recent years, man i need to win some of that back this year.
*emoticon of little yellow man mooning you*

Hey General Failure.....I thought we were just talking about Pinkston, who sucks. Who is Catch&Roll???? Maybe I just know him by another name. You guys still don't have a running back. A running back is the most valuable weapon you can have. Yes, you have TO and he's gonna do some damage. You also have a good quarterback. You also have a real good head coach and a real good defensive coach. But you don't have a running game. Until you get one you won't go all the way to the Superbowl.

I just hope you guys don't do all that well this year, because losing three NFC Championships in a row and two in a row in your own house is pretty humiliating. If it happens a third straight time in your own house...I'll actually admit that I will feel sorry for you guys. Its not often when you'll here me say something like that.
