No... they pull them from a much darker place than that...

An 8-8 team that won exactly THREE games outside of the worst division in football is ranked #5
I am COMPLETELY baffled as to why the Chargers are being considered an upper echelon team! What the heck did they do to improve that much? I love their QB and a team in that week of a division with a QB that good should be at least a 10 win team, but they WON’T be!

I think they are considered to be competitors this year because:
(1) Even though they went 8-8 overall, they were 4-8 before running the tables to make the playoffs. In the playoffs they beat the Colts and played a very tough game against Pittsburgh at Pittsburgh. So the record is a little deceiving.
(2) They have a great QB who is in his prime. They have a still-great RB entering his final few seasons with a young, talented RB to supplement. There is plenty of "star power" on the team.
(3) This year they will play in the AFC West.
Not saying it's justified. . .just saying that's what the thought process is (I think).

They are coached by Norv Turner who has proven for more than a decade that he cannot coach a team to any sort of real success.Irn-Bru wrote:skinsfan#33 wrote:I am COMPLETELY baffled as to why the Chargers are being considered an upper echelon team!

Those last 4 game were against the Raiders, Chief, Bucs, and Broncos. I can see ho beating those teams should move them to #5.

I agree that their QB is a stud and he makes their average (at best) WR look better than they are. I don't know if LT is still great or even good. I haven't written him off, but I have a hunch he is pretty much done.
Sproles is lightning in a bottle and I really wished he made it to free agancy because he was #1 on my FA want list last off season. However, he was there for all of SD incredible 8-8 run.
SD always (for some reason) beats Indy in the playoffs. And then they lost to P-Burge.
I may be completely wrong about them and I'm not even saying they won't be good, I just can't figure out why the media is in love with them but give us no shot.

We are going to sneak up on some teams this year.

Agreed - its much better to fly under the radar than to be in the cross hairs!
Plus its more fun when the 'other' fans in our division are dismayed that their team lost to supposed inferior Skins team ... and it starts this Sunday!
