Montreal, Canada (AHN) - Washington Capitals goaltender Jose Theodore suffered a tragic loss with the recent death of his two-month old son.
Veronique Cloutier, the goalie's sister-in-law and a Montreal media personality, made the announcement Thursday on her radio show.
The Washington Post reported the boy was born two months prematurely and struggled with respiratory difficulties since his birth in June.
"We are aware of the heartbreaking news," Capitals general manager George McPhee said in a statement. "At this time we ask that everyone respects the privacy of Jose and his family."
Theodore and wife Stéphanie Cloutier have a three-year-old daughter, Romy.
