Marko M. Is Better Than D.Thomas

To be honest... I like all our pass catchers. I know Kelly, Thomas, Davis and Mitchell are still unproven, but I see the potential in our WR and TE corps. I do think Mitchell will be a pleasant surprise, but I still have faith in Thomas and Kelly. ARE is a good slot receiver and Moss still has the speed and intimidation factor to draw attention from defenders. Thomas, Kelly and Mitchell bring the size we've needed for some time now.

By the way, saw this yesterday...

Devin Thomas is expected to see action in place of Cartwright on kick returns. Thomas returned kickoffs at Michigan State, but he did not get any opportunities last year as a rookie with the Redskins.

I thought Kelly and Thomas looked a lot better and if Davis had turned around in the end zone he would have had a TD from Brennan and the INT would never have happened :wink:

That was just a good play by the CB and not a good pass. You can't put that on DT.

From my view it was # 86 not # 11 who looked like he should have turned around and I think he would have caught that ball - the pats D did play fairly well which is also an indication of good offensive play by our guys, for the most part

I saw it the opposite way. Colt had pressure coming from his right and threw the ball too soon to avoid the hit. Davis hadn't even had the time to make his break on the route, and the ball came too soon. When I watched it again this morning, it was clear, to me anyway, that Fred didn't have the time to work his route before the ball arrived prematurely.

Back to Marko and Devin... I thought both looked outstanding. Some have said they haven't seen enough from Devin, and that's true, because he actually needed some passes thrown his way. It's not like he's been dropping passes when they do come his way. When he gets the ball, like we saw last night, he really explodes and his physicality is rather evident. He looks good with the ball in his hands and I also liked what I saw from him returning kicks. Devin averaged over 26 yards a return, slightly better than Rock's season average from last year. Yes, it was only one game, but I think he could get the job done if needed.

What impresses me more than anything about Marko are the comments that continue to come from his teammates. In the locker room video, Cool

ey mentions that both Devin and Marko looked good. When players comment about rookies, especially before the season has even started, I think that speaks volumes. I predict that Marko has easily tied up the 5th WR spot on the roster and I think we'll see down the road that he was another late round gem found in the draft.

Marko is playing out of his mind. He has a chance to be this year's Marcus Colston (a 7th Rnd receive who comes out of nowhere to be a force). But as much as he helped himself on offense, he didn't help himself on Special Teams. Watching him at the game (and what you didn't see on TV) was the guy is always open. He had beaten his man down field at least 5 times (as did Fred Davis coincidentally) that Colt Brennan didn't see.

There's no doubt the Skins coaching staff wants to keep him badly and they are trying to see if he can contribute on special teams as an added benefit. But he did not show it last night.

Back to Colt Brennan, the guy shows me nothing. The fact that he hit Marko once does not make up for the multiple wide open receivers that he missed. Also, the last toss needed to go 50 yards and it went 30....I thought this guy had arm strength?

As for Devin Thomas, the guy has shown me a lot and I think he takes over the Kick Return duties. With that being said, I don't know why we'd keep Rock.

Kelly's hands remain suspect to me. He has all the ability and never makes the plays, just like last year.

Can't speak to the missed open receivers, but the knock on Colt has always been that he lacks arm strength, not to the Todd Collins extreme, but as an average NFLer.

Okay well tell us what you have seen from Brennan this offseason and preseason. I'd really like to know.

Same with Thomas. Everytime he got the ball in his hands he did something good. Be it average 26 yards on kick returns, or just fighting for extra yards. The dude is a player. And I would like to know what you are seeing that makes you hate this guy so much.

You say you aren't throwing him in the trash but that is exactly what you are doing. You are making assumptions about this guy that you can not prove. And I'm talking about this offseason and the preseason games you have seen so far THIS year. We all know he was a straight lazy ass screw up last year. But this is a new year and so far he has done basically everything he needs to do.

I still feel that we will see Kelly, Thomas and Mitchell make this squad - these 3 look like being a part of a formidable passing offense in the very near future

I am glad that the trio of Davis, Kelly and Thomas have applied themselves much better these past 6 months - they all are showing the reasons for high expectations and are hopefully going to be a part of this team for many years :wink:

I completely agree, SJ. And I think we are on the verge of adding Marko to that list. As I said before, the fact that a ROOKIE is getting so much love, publicly, from his teammates speaks volumes. I believe all of our pass catchers are going to be valuable contributors for this team.

Marko is having a great camp. I wouldn't go as far as to say that he's better then Thomas or Kelly but he seams to have a bright future. I think he starts off on the practice squad then moves to the roster by mid season. If your going to refrence late round WR steals start with the most recent Marques Colston.

I think he makes the roster as the 5th WR but is inactive for the 1st few games.

This is a legitimate issue. Colston got playing time because the Saint's didn't have any depth, and were desperate at the time. While we don't qualify quite yet as receiver wealthy, we don't appear to be desperate. There are a lot of decent receivers who will be competing for a limited number of touches. That works against the 5th receiver. He will get touches... he needs to make them special.

Problem is...what happens when you're limited touches aren't touchable? Same thing happened to Fred Davis last year...

I know that we have guys that are starters but.... I dunno. Maybe it's just me but things are getting a bit stale. It's not that we need to redo the team, we've been doing very well with consistency but you can't do it to a fault.

Now, am I saying he needs to start? No. BUT We need to give him ample playing time to prove either way. Same thing with Mason.
