Its over....It really is

Post by frankcal20 »

The fans out there in the NFL crack me up so much. If a team doesn't go out there and totally whoop up on someone in a "meaningless," watered down preseason game, the season is over. WE ARE DONE!!!!

Do you all realize that they are working on certain things in each play. There are plays that the are NOT running because they are very effective and they do not want them to show up on tape. Everything this team is doing right now is geared at putting players in certain situations to see how they respond. See the 1st offensive play of the game. I'm sure that play was more set up to see if Kelly could get separation. No JC didn't do his part but he's the first to tell you that he didn't make a good throw. I personally think that weather conditions had a lot to do with it but that's just me.

People are also freaking out about our Dbacks outside of Hall. There is one thing I noticed last night is that for the most part, our guys were in good position to make plays. The other teams guys just made better plays. Diving catches, flipping over backwards, etc.

My whole point of this thread is to say that we are going to be a better team this year. We are being tested by some of the best defenses in the NFL this preseason and some of the better offenses too, so keep that in mind during your evaluations. And understand more importantly, that it's just preseason and most teams that end up being very good, loose in the preseason because they want to see where their players' weakness' are.

I don't get why some fans don't understand that the preseason is meaningless and shows nothing about how good a team is. For the past week I couldn't get it through to the stupid Ravens fans that these games mean nothing. They insist we suck because our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string players let up 500 yds of offense.

It's all situational football. Like you said, all coaches do is call plays to see how back-ups, or any players really, will respond to certain situations to see who will make the team and who won't. You know the games are meaningless when coaches decline penalties they would accept 100% of the time in a real game just to see more from the unit on the field be it offense, defense, or special teams. That's why I don't really care that we won last night and I don't care that we lost last week in such embarrassing fashion. It shows nothing about what the regular season will bring. Some fans just don't get that. And I also believe we will be a better team this year. Our defense will bring pressure and cause turnovers and I'm optimistic our offense will come around.

Yeah, great point. Because during the season, it won't rain, EVER. Geez, another classic excuse. Gimme a break!

Its funny to me, how some fans over react with negativity. I cant say I blame them really, since the team hasn't been consistently winning for over 10+ years now. But just have some faith for once.

I think the preseason games are important. True, they do not count in the standings, so in that sense the outcome is meaningless. True, the starters only see limited time, but that is not really the point. The players need to execute and make plays. Sure we are running a plain vanilla offense. So what? The defense is running a plain vanilla defense. Whay can't we make more plays against a plain vanilla defense?

What do we see? Are our guys communicating? Are they making plays? Are they showing good fundamentals? Are they playing comfortably in the system and with each other (taking into account the higher than normal substitutions)?

All of that is very important IMO

And along those lines, I don't think we've had a bad preseason so far.

It is kind of a weird thing about the preseason. I thought fans were supposed to be so much more knowledgeable about the game because of all the time people spend playing fantasy football??? :)

Personally I learned a hard lesson about the preseason the year Spurrier beat up on the 49ers in Japan. I thought it was the second coming of Joe Gibbs and Danny Wuerffel was the new Peyton Manning.

^ Right. Every year I think, man we look great. Last year we looked awful in the preseason I thought and we came out firing. Who knows how our season would have turned out without all the injuries on the O-line. We'll never know but I have a strong feeling that we'll field a decent team this year. Everyone learned a lot last year - Even Coach Zorn. I think his play calling will get a little more "LESS" predictable. And JC knows a lot more of the offense.

Did I miss something? Are the Redskins planning a brain transplant for JC so he will read and throw the ball in a timely manner? Again, IMO ABBC.

Yea, and we know the Skins won the SB with Spurrier as coach in 2002. They KICKED A in the preseason. Look how that turned out.

Wuerfell to Jacobs, TD! Actually I don't remember if they were here the same year or not and don't care enough to look it up. But I will say we have the core of the inaugural class of the pre-season Hall of Fame!

And there was that one game, you know, the one that EVERYONE remembers in the preseason where the Skins went off on their opponent, the team that EVERYONE remembers so well I don't have to mention its name. And the QB threw that TD pass to that WR that EVERYONE knows without mentioning and EVERYONE was dancing in the streets during the Preseason SB parade....
