Rock Cartwright

Post by ATX_Skins »

Is it just me or does this clown always go down on first contact. Is there some reason we are still hanging onto him and taking up room on the depth chart. He does not have enough speed to take it all the way. I cringe everytime I see him return kicks, almost afraid to watch. I think he is a captain too which blows my mind.

What i'm asking is what does he bring to the table?

He consistently brings kicks back to the 40. He may not break it for a TD often, but he regularly puts us in great starting field position. He also is a tackling machine on kick-offs, often delivering the first blow on the returner. That being said, if we can find a regular player from the offense or defense that can do the job, I think his roster spot may be in jeopardy.

Agreed. It's impossible to argue that he's not valuable. But his position will be in danger the moment we find someone else who is suitable for kickoffs and could be useful as a 3rd RB.

It most likely has something to do with the team being fourth in the league in Kick Returns last year with Cartwright as the primary returner. I cringe with Randle El returning, but the other teams fear Cartwright. No touchdowns last year, but he has several in his career.

That said, I wouldn't mind if someone displaced him as the third RB.
With the Cardinals reaching the Super Bowl, is Dan Snyder officially the worst owner in the league?

WOW... Why does he have to be a clown? And its you, cause Rock doesnt always go down on 1st contact.

Are you kidding me? He has consistently been productive as a kick returner, and i've seen him break tackles on more than one occasion.

Did you ever think that's because teams are kicking off to the Redskins so often? You know, after scoring?

6 Washington Redskins 18.5
7 Indianapolis Colts 18.6

The very next post showed that he didn't. You obviously don't either.

WOW, you've really opened my eyes on statistics. I should have been more attentive in College. I never realized so many stats could be misleading. I thank you sir. Now, If you don't mind, save the lesson for your kids or anyone else that might care.

My point is, you cannot say that Rock hasn't been productive, I don't care if you get the ball kicked to you 20 times a game or 5 times a game, if you are getting positive yards, you are being productive. The fact that he has been able to handle a large number of returns and gain positive yardage further proves his durability and productivity.[/quote]

What team were you watching last year? Just because we couldn't score more than 20 on offense doesn't mean our defense was letting that much up.

Besides, Rock's average-yards-per-kick are very good, too. It's pretty clear that he's valuable on KRs.

When given the oportunities at RB, he has produced. I don't know why we don't use him more.

It looks to me that 3 years of stats were listed. As the Redskins defense improved, Rocks rankings went down. My 2 cents

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that a teams offensive points? I don't know, since it doesn't say. If it's defensive points allowed, then all I have to say is that is last years stats, when Rock's rank dropped a bit. Either way, having someone electric back there with the chance of breaking one would sure be nice. All Rock gives us is positive yards (something much more than Randel El  ). It's nice but really not all that hard to find someone else to do his job.

Just to be clear, I don't really care about stats. I want this team to win. Period. To win, they need to score more than their opponent. That is the only stat I care about.

Look, bottom line is, he IS VERY replaceable with younger talent. Rock carried the ball 5 times last year for 14 or 15 yards... Lets start thinking about post Portis era like the rest of our division does and start developing young talent instead of waiting till its too late then going for gold in the off-season.

Rock needs to go. I know there is some undrafted RB out there who can get 25 yards on a return. Or a reciever for that matter. Anyone who will be more productive overall or can be a prospect for years to come.

No one in this thread has said he is not replaceable, just that he is very consistently strong as a KR. If we can find his replacement among those we have in camp now, then we can use his roster spot. Otherwise, we have to wait until next year. The point is, he has to already be on the team, we certainly won't be bringing in his replacement from outside, this season.

He's consistant, but he's not a homerun hitter. He'll give us good yardage, but he has no breakaway speed. The xfactor of Parrish or Hester is what I crave. We could do a lot worse, but we could do better, as well.
