Jason was 3 of 6 and he hit one guy in the hands. The O-line actually gave him a TC time to throw. Colt wasn't as lucky
Zorn wants to use two TEs and one can't seem to hold onto the ball. That's dissapointing. I did see a lot of good tonite. Depth still seems to be a issue across the board

I did not see the game - I would like to hear from anyone about what Campbell looked like as far as his ability to read defenses and make much quicker decisions than last year - this guy has got to be a whole lot better - yes, we need better performance from the line and the receivers but if Campbell is not a whole lot better than last season then we've got big time troubles
I'm willing to accept it's still very early but Campbell is to me our best chance for success and many of you have indicated that this is going to be a breakout year for him - please make me feel a little better about what we have seen so far

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Spenser made the comment that Zorn looked outcoached, and I couldn't reply before the thread was locked, but OMG!
It's the first pre-season game. They don't game plan. Get a clue. They're trying to evaluate rookie and backup talent and keep the starters from getting hurt. This is in no way reflective of how we will play a month from tonight. Yes there are definitely some areas that need work, but c'mon people. There were several positives tonight.
We have a really good punter. That is a great advantage in the field position battle that we haven't had in a decade.
Orakpo is a stud. When Haynesworth is also in the lineup, we are going to have a killer D.
Blades looked really strong in relief of Fletcher.
The sophomore WRs both looked strong.
If Zorn can get JC to throw the ball sooner, we are going to be just fine.
We all know what
ey and Portis are capable of.
We will be fine. Quit your worrying, you pansy wusses.

In reply to spenser, we were 6-2 last year because it was impossible to predict what plays Zorn was calling. The guy has an absolutely brilliant offensive mind IMHO. We finished 8-8 because our already completely average Offensive line was really beat up and Zorn became much more predictable. I'm hoping that Zorn only did that in some misguided effort to "hide" our OLine deficiencies.
This season I figure we will be 8-8 again. We will have a dominating defense, but our Oline will be worse and Campbell isn't good enough to succeed without at least a decent OLine.
My guess is that Snyder makes big waves on OLine next season, and Colt becomes our starter. I'm not a huge Colt fan, but he's a gunslinger and with a decent OLine, our current defense and Zorns mind, I think we have a shot next year.
This season, I am just going to enjoy watching our defense kill people!

I agree for the most part except for 3 things: first that Zorn can get JC to throw the ball sooner -- that, unfortunetly isn't something a coach can teach; the ability to read defenses and make decisions is an inherent trait and, more or less, cannot be taught. That is on JC's shoulders. Second, I don't see what makes anyone believe that we will be "just fine". We have depth issues and lack leadership on the field. Finally that Zorn appeared outcoached -- a do agree that he isn't out there calling more than a dozen plays, but Zorn has done nothing to display a superior coaching ability to any other coach in the league. If he does perform this season, I wouldn't be surprised if he was gone in 2010.
One thing that really made me upset was watching JC laughing off the field after over-throwing Hagan on a 20 yard incompletion. I then changed the channel and saw Patriots highlights where Brady threw his helmet on the sidelines after missing a WR (good players don't care whether this is preseason or the playoffs; they just want to perform at their best in any situation). This is a perfect example of what this team lacks (in pure competitiveness on the part of JC) and poor leadership.
JC had more time than necessary and only got 38 yards and ZERO POINTS.
Where is his inner dragon.....LOL.

Pre-season games are pretty much a joke. Starters play for one quarter then thats it. Having said that , there are some aspects that can give pointers to how a season is likely to go. One such thing is the punting game .. ok its not very glamorous but if you've got a guy who's giving the team an extra 20 yrds on a punt , plus you have a defense that (on paper anyway) is as strong as ours then immediatley we are in a better position then last year. Teams are gonna have to go further, against a stronger defense, in order to score.
I would like to see Brennan given a chance behind the starting OL to give a more balanced view on the QB situation.

But Im starting to think the 6-2 start last year was the aboration and the hangover of a prideful Joe Gibbs team, and the 2-6 finish was the beginning of a team with a flippant coach who im not sure is respected.
DING DING tell'em what he's won Bob!
Another dissapointing season
I'm very afraid you could be too right on that one.

The team gets crushed & shutout 26-0 and the upset fans are the pansy wusses.

When it's the 1st pre-season game, yes! If I remember correctly you had us at 4-12 this time last year.

so can we please get off the Colt Brennen bandwagon for starter now?
.. and i KNOW this was only a preseason game and it was his 1st one of the year at that but I have never understood the huge following he generated after a couple good preseason games last year .. im happy to have him and develop him but he is NOT ready and is at least another year maybe 2 away from it in IMO..
I know there is going to be a bunch of people who disagree with me and will argue many different points against me but I just dont get the insane want and belief that this kid is our QB of the future..
I just personally have not and dont see it .. sorry ( let the bashing begin)

These posts are very funny. It's amazing how the season is over after the first preseason game.
Just an FYI about Suisham. Danny Smith said that he likes the kickers to kick the ball to the 1. They hope that they can stop the ball carrier before the 20. I think we did a good job of that last year too. Not to mention with us drafting speed guys for Special Teams, that may be more possible.

i agree.. although im not happy about how poorly we looked in the loss i actually am glad it happened in the 1st game and without 2 big pieces of our offense..
it gives the team alot to look back on and hopefully gives them alittle bit of a chip to play with .. now if we lose like this all 4 games then I might worry but for now .. its one game in which our starters played a series or 2 ..
only thing that could be said is our depth isnt as strong as we might hope IMO

On the one hand that's true. On the other hand, both Brian Mitchell and Trevor Matich made the point that the Skins seem to be behind where the Ravens and some of the other teams appear to be at this point.

Here is something I noticed. JC had time to go through his progressions and get the ball to the receiver who was open. Now, one guy didn't make the catch but I can't remember who. But I only think he got 7 throws or something like that. So I wouldn't go about damning JC for his lack or whatever. I can't say that any QB can get things going in only your first two series of the year. I'm sure next game when he plays the whole 1st qtr. he'll be able to develop a bit more comfort. With a few other players in the game like CP or Moss in the game would help us out a lot.

I'm not saying that Jason Campbell isn't going to improve over the next few weeks in his rythm, but the only other two quarterbacks that I watched at all tonight were Joe Flacco and Tom Brady, and both did really well. Wasn't it their first series in awhile????
"I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious." -Vince Lombardi
I was not able to see the game however I did follow it online and watched some highlights. From what I saw it looks as if the offense is once again struggling to move the ball. This would normally concern me however Bmore could possibly a superbowl contender this year.
I am not a Jason Campbell fan, never have been, don't think this year will change anything either. That being said I don't think Brennen is the answer imo. I'm not going to dog the team too bad for tonight until I have seen the DVR. From what I am reading though, fans are nervous....

I've read the game and post game commentary, and I wonder about some people, but that's a different post.
My
:
- As everyone has said, Orakpo is going to be a force. He was great; probably the best guy in burgundy and gold last nite.
- Jarmon looked good. I'm impressed with him considering he had little camp to go thru. I think by hte end of the year, he's going to be another force.
- Moore was sick. He was layin wood like it was goin out of style. He did get smoked on that play (where the guy was freakin out of bounds).
- Hall has come to play.
- Sophomore WRs looked promising. A huge improvement from last year.
- Am I the only person that noticed that our runblocking FORGOT TO SHOW UP?!?!
- 1st team pass blocking looked a lot better. maybe JC just hasn't gotten confidence in the pass blocking? <prays>
- Backs were picking up blitzes very well, I was really surprised.
- JC had happy feet. I don't know what that was all about.
- It seemed as some of Brennan's spark was missing this year. Good or bad thing?
Final thought : I'm concerned, but it is the first game of the pre-season. There is room for improvement...I just hope that it comes soon.

Traditionally, teams don't gameplan for preseason games. For example, if you look at preseason games overall, there's a minimum of blitzing. Last night, however, I think the Ravens actually gameplanned for this game; because on defense...they were blitzing. A lot.
Some positives, some negatives...but it's the first preseason game, and these games generally mean squat.
Well, except that Davis needs to hold onto the damn ball.
