Who is getting cut next Tuesday?

Post by Redskin_fan »

Besides Jeremiah Trotter, does anyone anticipate any surprise cuts on June 1st? Perhaps Trung Canidate?

I think Canidate and Trotter are pretty much for sure cuts, Im interested in seeing who the number 3 Quarterback will be Hamden or Hasselbeck?... Hamden is getting some experence in NFL Europe and he has a strong arm, But can he beat out Hasselbeck?... any one have an opinion on this?... HTTR

I don't think they have to make a decision on the number 3 QB until well into Training Camp. If I'm not mistaken, NFL Europe players don't count against your training camp roster as teams are forced to pair down - until they get to the second to last cut?

I think they will keep all four QB's--they increased the size of the practice squad this year, so 1 or 2 will be there. Plus, Hasselbeck and Hamdan both have potential, and Hasselbeck played fairly well last year, so releasing them would be a mistake.

I wouldn't be so sure about Candidate. I'm not saying the guy will stay around, but I don't really feel that Gibbs has shown his hand yet. Trotter is as definite as we can possible be, but not the same for Candidate.

I don't think that Canidate is a sure cut at all. The last I heard Gibbs wanted him to compete with Betts for the number 2 RB job in training camp. Canidate gives us depth at the position, and he only costs $915,000 to keep, so it wouldn't benefit us that much to cut him. Plus, he has no bonus on his contract, so why would Gibbs wait until June 1 if he really wanted to cut him. Trotter will be the only one cut in my opinion.

I hope you're right. For some reason, I really like him and think he deserves a chance.

People always say that people like Bowen and Betts will flourish under Gibbs and the right coaching... What about Ohalete and Canidate? The coaches are coaching everyone, right?

I think Trotter is a sure cut. A few months ago, I thought the same about Canidate but for a little while, I've been thinking that he will be a great backup for us. I think Trung stays. I wish I could think of another cut but just can't come up with any.

Candidate was a great back up in St. Louis. When faulk got hurt three years ago he stepped in and put up monster numbers,(had him on my fantasy team :D ). I think that he can be a great back up for the skins. I also iniatally though ohalete might have gotten cut, but they just re signed him so I cant really think of any off the top of my head, with the exception of trotter.

I disagree. He only had one good game to my knowledge (against the Jets in 2001) and never put up good stats.
Year Team G GS Att Yards Avg Lg TD 20+
2000 St. Louis Rams 3 0 3 6 2.0 3 0 0
2001 St. Louis Rams 16 2 78 441 5.7 45 6 5
2002 St. Louis Rams 16 1 17 48 2.8 22 0 1

I totally agree with this statement, though. I backup running back who put up 600 yards in 10 games and has great speed is pretty nice to have.

5.7 yards per carry in 2001 looks like some good numbers to me...

Trung is a skilled player, we should keep him. I am worried about not having a muscle back though. Rock is the closest, I guess.

I am much more interested in who the OTHER teams will cut on 6/1. I believe Trotter will our only cut. I also believe we will sign 1-2 DL after 6/1. Then we should be set.

Nope - just June 1st cuts, 'skinschica.

I agree that Trotter is gone. I hope Rock makes it through, I love that dude - he's a beast for a 5'7" guy.

I have to say that for June 1 it will only be Trotter. Whether Trung or Hasselbeck/Hamdan get cut....well I think that will be determined in training camp and the preseason games.

Jake, I was reffering to the numbers he put up when he started for the rams when faulk went out. Here are his game by game stats for 2001, take a look for your self.
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/g ... 0.htm#2001

I would say that of the 2 games he started and the one game he played the majority of, those are monster numbers.

23 carries-195 yds 37 yds recieving and 2 touchdowns. absoultely amazing for a backup, and then he followed it up with 2 extremely solid games

The real question is who will everyone else cut and who can we pick up to help fill in our d-line. Outside of the d-line i feel we are set with starters and back-ups at every position. So let's hope for a few good linemen on the wire...

OK, if you were referring to him filling in for Faulk, then I agree, he did a decent job in 2001. Not really for his whole career in St. Louis.

Trung has one major handicap in a Joe Gibs offense and that is he cannot block. He may benefit greatly from working with Ernest Byner who in his day could block with the best of them and will not tolerate soft play from Trung.

I hate to say it, but I disagree. Canidate can block, but not way too well. I have watched highlights online, and, sometimes, you'll see Canidate through a crucial block on a scoring play.

I forget which game it was, but I know one game on a scoring play where our QB, Hasselbeck or Ramsey, I think Ramsey, ran around in the backfield a tiny bit before throwing... Trung Canidate literally killed a blitzing linebacker. The linebacker got to the outside, didn't pay attention to Trung. Canidate smashed into him with his entire body and the guy was smashed to the ground.

Are you basing this solely on last year? 'Cause Spurrier's offense made many a Skin look inept. Rock looked like a matador on several ocassions. OLÉ!!!

Points well taken gentlemen.

I believe that most of our backs did not have a clue last year where the blitzes were coming from. That aside their blocking technique was lacking.

One thing that a lot of folks overlook with Stephen Davis is that he's always been a pretty good blocker.

I wonder if Chad Morton wil run from scrimmage at all next season with this glut of running backs.
