Zorn as a Rookie

Post by DarthMonk »

Did anyone else see this from the 7/29 Wash Post?

"Zorn has tweaked things in an effort to reduce Campbell's on-field duties and, hopefully, increase his production. In games last season, Zorn, the Redskins' play-caller, would only provide personnel groupings for plays, and Campbell was responsible for putting together formations in the huddle."

This seems unusual to me. In all my experience, a play sent in would have, as part of the play call, (usually the first part) the formation. Did Gibbs (Buges) simply send in "70 chip" or did he send in "Goal line, goal line. I-left, tight wing, 70 chip?" I'm guessing the only thing Joe was responsible for before breaking the huddle was repeating that call and adding "on white."

How does this affect our evaluation of Campbell's performance under Zorn thus far, if at all?

When Zorn was first hired I truly wondered if he had a complete playbook.

If true, it would definately explain why Campbell seemed unsure at times last year.

I'm kinda cautious to take it as true only because of the source =)
