Laveranues Coles has established himself as one of the NFL's elite receivers the last two seasons, so transitioning to a new coaching staff shouldn't be too much of a burden. Entering his second season in Washington, he will be playing for his fourth different coaching staff in five NFL seasons. The lack of coaching continuity in his career is not something Coles can control, but he says it is making his adjustment to Joe Gibbs and the new Redskins coaching staff a bit smoother.
"We all have a fresh start here, but we know that Coach Gibbs is going to expect a lot from us," Coles said. "All of the coaches have let us know that, whichever player does it best, that's the player who's going to be doing it on game days."
Based on his performance the last two seasons, Coles should have no problem in earning playing time this year. In 2002, he finished his third season with the New York Jets by logging 89 catches for 1,264 yards. Last year, with the Redskins, he recorded 82 catches for 1,204 yards, a 14.7 yards-per-catch average and six touchdowns. His efforts earned him his first Pro Bowl appearance.

People, people, the toe bothers the people WAY MORE than it has ever bother Laveranues. He's going to let it heal naturally. Why have surgery? Why make a boulder out of a pebble? (In case you don't know what it means, it means 'why make something big out of something small?') Yes folks, I just came up with that euphamism myself!

I'm guessing surgery would have limited his conditioning..... and he thought it would heal with time.... I just hope it's not so bad that he wished he had gotten the surgery...

my only point: if its still an issue..... IT SHOULDN"T BE. IMO he shouldn't have ever been in the pro bowl, but fixing that 7 year, 35 million dollar toe. with the salary cap, we can't afford to have a guy like LC miss even a few games. there shouldn't be an issue with the brace or natural healing. he should be in the same boat as ramsey, repaired and ready.

lol, we need to get our jabs in now because soon, if Jake's on the path to being a writer, he'll know English better than most of us know how to tie our shoes.
I think Jake is right. Coles isn't the type of player who is going to let a hurt toe stop him.

i sure hope the toe is not bothering him. I tend to agree that surgery would have it corrected and it would not be an issue now.
Of course Shaq had foot surgery on his toe and it didn't help. This could just be some of the pain that football players or athletes in general have to deal with.
But it would be nice to know he is 100%...
If he can have 90 catches this year, we could be in for a big season. I just thought as the year wore on, his production fell, but not sure you can blame it ont he toe or the team???

I love what Gibbs said about him later in that article (above). Coles is not going to let a toe mess his season up like another guy I know like Mr. Fancypants - Deion. I think they're being precautious while making sure he stays in shape. We'll see by training camp.

Laveranues will have an even better year then last year! His toe should be fully healed by the time the season starts and Ramsey or Brunell will have more time to get him the ball this year! Not to forget to mention lots of pressure will be off Coles because we now have Clinton Portis in the backfield!

Well, I never heard of the boulder expression. I probably won't be writing about euphamisms or analogies regarding the Skins, although I am good with analogies, despite the verbal slip-up.

My wife fractured 2 toes Christmas day. She opted to have the surgery on New Years Eve.
After 5 months, the foot is still not 100%. They say it may take up to a year to recover completely.
My concern is that after the fracture LC did not come out of his cuts as sharply and he did not have the explosion we saw earlier. Without proper rest (which he'll probably never get) this may be as good as it gets for him.

Thats absolutely right, these things need to heal and sometimes they get worse if U don't let them. I'd almost rather him sit out till its completely healed. We have enough quality depth. I'd rather have him at 100% in 6 months than at 80% and declining towards the end of the year. I want our guys healthy.
