Why aren't the Skins addressing their most obvious problem?

Post by grampi »

The offensive line. They keep hem-hawing around about Campbell and whether or not he's good enough to be a starter on this team when the glaring problem is the offensive line. Give him time and he's as good as any QB. Put a REAL O-line on the field and Portis and Betts will run all over every team. Until we get a decent O-line it's just going to be more of the same ol' same ol' from this team.

Yep, let's just go buy a real O-line from walmart and solve this issue already. We keep buying that generic crap.

Jeremy Bridges
Derrick Dockery
Edwin Williams
2nd year Rinehart
Devin Clark

Should bolster our line play, plus the others have come into camp lean and mean. I'm optimistic.

Seeing Campbell in his drops he looks like he's coming off his back foot alot quicker, I'm seeing his body control as better than ever, and it wasn't like he was horrible last yr, if I'm not mistaken he was the least intercepted QB in the league which is a great stat. Problem of course was he couldn't throw TD's. Getting Devin and Malcom and Fred contributing could go along way towards getting more points.

The offensive line is our biggest concern going into 09' but its going to take the rest of the offensive players stepping up too.

That is the number of Grampi's most recent posts I reviewed before I found one that had anything positive to say about the Redskins.

Yes, thank you. I was trying to figure out how to put this. And I haven't posted until yesterday for 3 months.

Here's a direct response to your legitimate post. I think that management believes the OL could be good this year and that that is the primary reason they are standing pat.

I also think that management hasn't yet been able to find availabe OL material they like and that that aslo has played a role in their standing pat.

It seems to me that they are counting on Samuels and Thomas to return to past form, that Dockery can stop allowing sacks, and that someone will beat out Heyer, hopefuly Mike Williams, who has the best upside poetential on both a long- term and short- term basis.

I'm pessimistic about all of the above, just as you are, but believe the Skins will have a very good line if management is correct. I think it is correct that Campbell must have a very good line to be effective and that he must also have two of the three young receivers make a breakthrough to be effective..

I hazard a guess that management knows it is playing against long odds but feels it is forced to do so.

The fact is the line was addressed. Just because it wasn't done in the way some people feel it should have been done doesn't change anything. The main issue I see is health. Health is a big IF but IF they stay healthy I think our line will be just fine.

I made no judgement about Heyer at all and have no means of personally evatuating Heyer, so purposefully did not and only spoke to what it seemed to me that management thought. Since my post is clear, I assume you read my post with malice toward me personally and that over came your logic. So, I deduct that your hope that I not be offended is either insincere or the product of a lazy mind. Pretty darn good until he got hurt. Having the NFL's leading rusher and a QB playing at a high level. This OL was not as bad as everyone is making it out to be. It isn't like it was Cardinals or Steelers bad, and they seemed to do OK last year.

If anyone argues that those two teams had a better OL they need to go back and watch more football.

I haven't checked Grampi's post at all but all I think that the occuasional pessimistic or even contraian post that is posted is healthy for this board. It seems to me that that is an insistence here on purely optimistic views. I think that is extremely unhealthy. Optimism alone does not win football games or help with analysis anymore than carrying a rabbit's foot. I am reminded that the elders of Troy were actually sure that Apollo would help defend their walls and therefore certain Troy could hold out against the united armies of Greece. They might have made better plans if they could had had Grampi with them.

Surprised no one has mentioned the obvious…We already know Snyder wants a new QB and with the numerous big name coaches that are available he decided to not upgrade the OLine so that they will fail and he cam get rid of both

I don't think that is that "obvious" to many here

I actually think that we had priorities with both lines and could only address the defensive line in a way that made many here happy. Defensively, this team was helped big time, and this could be a huge help to this team. BUT - We all know that there were a number of issues and concerns, offensively here last year - Zorn in his first year, Campbell with yet another offense, receiver issues and age/health/stamina/skill factor with our linemen. None was particularly bad but the offensive line woes were particularly worrisome especially as it contributed to the other areas

I think that the team should have planned better to ensure that what we saw last year, did not happen, but, that is water under the dam.
The team did the best they could given the various obvious factors and the offensive side of the ball is going to have to wait.

I think the team is wishing/hoping/praying for all the best things to happen offensively and then next year we will address what we have to. This could indeed involve the coach, QB and more

as many here know, my complaint with this team is that better management would have addressed these issues sooner
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
