We basically got one of the better DEs for next years draft a year early for only a 3rd rounder. How can you not be happy about that?
Because some people just want any excuse to complain about our FO?

Two things... First, Jarman was not drafted for this season, he's not even going to play this season... Second, I got to see every snap Orakpo played lest year... he has a chance to be a pro-bowl defensive end, but he has zero chance of being a pro-bowl linebacker... he's athletic enough to be a linebacker, fullback, tight end, etc... but he's still a defensive end...

USAF summed up my thoughts. Since Orakpo was drafted as a DE, I am still under the impression that once we get a SLB, Orakpo will be back to DE.
If Orakpo is permanently moved to SLB, then I can understand the move. I am skeptical about how well he will pan out as an elite SLB.
...any given Sunday....
RIP #21 Sean Taylor. You will be loved and adored by Redskins fans forever!!!!!
GSPODS:
The National Anthem sucks.
What a useless piece of propagandist rhetoric that is.

I agree that Orakpo's future is at DE, but I think his future is replacing Andre Carter. And Jarmon's future is playing Wynn/Daniels' spot on the other side. That's why they made this draft pick; they just shored up both ends positions in one draft for the forseeable future.
In late summer, the NFL also holds a Supplemental Draft to accommodate players who did not enter the regular draft because they thought they still had academic eligibility to play college football. Draft order is determined by a weighted system that is divided into three groupings. First come the teams that had six or fewer wins last season, followed by non-playoff teams that had more than six wins, followed by the 12 playoff teams. In the supplemental draft, a team is not required to use any picks. Instead, if a team wants a player in the supplemental draft, they submit a "bid" to the Commissioner with the round they would pick that player. If no other team places a bid on that player at an earlier spot, the team is awarded the player and has to give up an equivalent pick in the following year's draft. (For example, FS Paul Oliver was taken by the San Diego Chargers in the fourth round of the Supplemental Draft in 2007; thus, in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Chargers forfeited a fourth-round pick.)
The 1985 Supplemental Draft was particularly controversial. Bernie Kosar of the University of Miami earned his academic degree a year early but did not enter the regular draft that year. Rather than finish his eligibility at Miami, he entered into talks with his favorite team, the Cleveland Browns. They advised Kosar to delay his professional eligibility until after the regular draft. They then traded for the right to choose first in the Supplemental Draft. This angered many clubs, notably the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants, who had expressed interest in choosing him in that season's regular draft. Many of today's Supplemental Draft rules aim at preventing a recurrence of this incident.
As of 2007, players who enter the Supplemental Draft usually are graded as players who should be drafted at a later round, or who have college eligibility problems (poor academic or discipline issues). Only 38 players have been taken since the NFL instituted the Supplemental Draft in 1977.

I'd go as far as to say he won't start this season. I'd say that he'll have a very limited role and get very little playing time but to say he won't play at all is a bit much. I think we'll see him, especially if he shines in the preseason. Plus he can play DT, I wouldn't be shocked to see him in the rotation albeit at the bottom of said rotation.

Could play a bit on STs, too.

Yep, I agree... and on ST's as well. And the advantage here is that we got him now instead of in next years draft. So that gives Jarmon over a year to get up to speed for nest season, verses just a few months if he came in next May.
How many times has a quarterback escaped our old De's in the past? I'm not talking about a Mike Vick, I'm talking about a Kurt Warner, or a Trent Dilfer scrambling....shaking and baking....juking because our linemen are old!!! NO MORE!!! NO MORE I TELL U!!! It infuritated me seeing QB's that had no business outrunning or beating our ends to the corner doing so!!
We have some fresh legs now, Qb's will be scared. Oh how it excites me.

And some of those sacks will translate into fumbles, and QB pressures will become INTs. And turnovers translate into Ws.

I like the pick, considering that if Jarman had played his senior season, would likely have been selected in the 3rd round or higher next May. And drafting him now allows him a free year to acclimate to the NFL and Blache's system. With regards to the detractors who say adding Jarman will somehow hinder Orakpo and others, I say look at the best defenses in the NFL. Most of them are very big in size. 3-4's typically have three 300 pounders up front and at least two or three LB's in the 250-260 range. The Giants run a 4-3, but have a large stable of DL's from 260-290 that rotate in different packages. We now may be able to say that we have both size and versatility if Haynesworth delivers plus Orakpo and Jarman develop. It's not a given that the defense will improve greatly, but I like the additional youth and size we have added.
