Chris Luva Luva wrote:Well according to the WR's coach, Zorn really cut off the after burners in the 2nd half of the season. Who the heck knows why but he did. So after reading that, more of the blame falls upon Zorn IMO. I thought it was Jason who didn't have the balls to get the offense moving, it was Zorn. Just like how Zorn was too afraid to make a change at PR. Just like how he had Thrash as our 3rd WR. Playing conservative got us what? 2-6 for the 2nd half of the season? If he had juiced things up a bit it may have resulted in the same record but, wouldn't some of our young players be that much further developed with gameday experience?

According to this:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4322356

He has climbed Mount Rainier, tooled around Seattle in a gaudy, yellow Volkswagen Bug and taken his mountain bike on rides so treacherous that when he reached the summits all Zorn could do was laugh because he'd tested himself and made it.

Before his name got bigger in the coaching ranks, and the demands got larger, he loved to kayak, through treacherous currents, and climb rocks.

Zorn doesn't know the meaning of the word "fear".

I am concerned about the line too - every fan is hoping for a lot of good things to happen with their team at this time of year - we are all 'level' - I just am not convinced we have done enough to ensure that Campbell and Zorn can be as good as they are - we have a lot of 'issues' that we hope will not be a concern and I think that is not very sound management by the 2 bozos

I'm like a lot of others here who just really want this team to become consistently good - we should not be playing close games with teams that we are better than as we have the last couple of years - we should have a team that is 1st or 2nd in the NFC East every year.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I'm not sure what you're suggesting they're missing or lacking, or what proof you have to support such claims, but with all do respect, your concerns appear to be in direct contradiction with damn near every report coming out of Redskins Park right now... and especially from those with firsthand knowledge.

I love watching all the games over and over, it really lets me pay attention to invidual players and the blocking.

- JC looked atrocious. Goodness I hope he has improved.
- Fred Davis got a raw deal. Jason over threw him, Zorn called a horrible reverse that Davis fought tooth and nail on just to get back to the LOS. Fred disappeared after that.
- It became blantantly obvious why CP fell apart. As I've been saying, Zorn whored him out. The philosophy is to run CP into the defense until it breaks down.

I had to cut it off.

That game was particularly bad to watch, really. And why the hell would you run a reverse with a TE? That still makes me shake my head.

My enduring memory of that game is watching Casey Rabach get run over...again and again...

There is no way you can use that argument when Portis had the second least touches of his Redskin career this year and the only year he had less touches was his injury year. Gibbs rode him into the ground just as much.

Didn't say Gibbs didn't whore him out. Just because he had fewer touches doesn't mean they didn't wear him down. When it becomes obvious that you're going to run and defenses are prepared for it and your play calling does nothing to hide that fact, you're abusing your runner. You're abusing him by not having an effective backup. You're abusing him by not having a change of pace back. You're abusing him by not passing well enough to get the 8th man of out the box. Run, Run, pass for yardage short of the marker, it's been that way since MB04.

How can you guys still think Campbell is the answer at QB? It only took Coach Z one season to determine that he isn't and to try and go after Cutler or Sanchez

Jason C is a off coordinator killer. And he is a NFL back up at best

This team will only win by running the ball and playing good defense. QB is medicore at best

Get ready to be excoriated, Dave.

Some dudes around here don't take lightly that kind of talking ;)

Having said that, Cutler and Sanchez were persued by Vinny and Snyder, not by Zorn. At least that's what the media said.

Zorn was just watching by the fence.

We don't know if JC is the answer but we don't know that he is not either. The Danny and his mini-me have done more to mare the kids career than imaginable. That said, this is his second year in the same system and if he does not perform now I would be willing to give up on him too.

Joey T is thinking that Campbell is going to have a decent shot at being a lot better QB than he has thus far shown.
I think that is because he feels that:

1 Campbell will benefit from better and more aggressive play calling by Zorn

2 Better pass protection and offensive line play the whole season

3 Thomas, Kelly and Davis will all become as good as the guys who brought them here thought they would be

4 Campbell will be more comfortable in the second year of Zorn's coaching

not sure if that is all going to happen but we all certainly hope so

we need to find out how many issues we have with this coach running this offense and that is going to determine how many changes we make after this season

Agreed, SkinsJock. I think we should also note that Theismann's assessment is also based on what he's seen from JC so far this offseason. This is not just a gut feeling he has, but is also a professional opinion based on what his eyes are telling him. As Matt Terl points out... "what stands out to me is that the negative stuff seems to be coming from people who are interpreting the team's rumored offseason moves, whereas the optimistic stuff is coming from people -- Cooley, Theismann -- who have actually seen Campbell in offseason work."

The following is from a fantasy football article, but being from an unbiased source, I believe their take is one of the most accurate I've seen. You can see the entire article here.

Second consecutive season under the same playbook. This is quite significant because the Redskins' current signal caller hasn't been afforded this "luxury" since his senior year in high school. I can't even imagine what Jason Campbell has done with all his extra time this offseason -- what with not having to learn an entire new playbook. Every other player has to know his own job on each play. The quarterback has to know the job of all 11 players on each play. Comfort matters.

The only area they missed on was the last paragraph regarding Fred Davis, and not knowing Zorn actually intends to use a two TE set with Cooley and Davis. Other than that, it's a reasonable take on the Redskins situation, albeit for fantasy football purposes.

And listen, while I'm optimistic JC will be better this coming year, the fact remains that nobody can predict the future. I think he has many things going in his favor and hopefully the kid can achieve a higher level of play. But who knows... we'll see...

right on SkinsFreak - I'm looking forward to seeing this team play and I hope that the 2 TE set that Zorn seems to want to use can be effective for us - can you imagine how much the offense will benefit if Davis and Cooley can be utilized by Zorn and Campbell - I am especially looking to see if our defense can play together - this could be a huge lift for all aspects of our game.

I remember a number of times when I was at a game the last 4 or 5 years - the defense would have a team down in the end of the field where we sit - right in front of the "hogettes", on about the 5 yard line - the noise was deafening and somehow, on many occasions, the opposing team would find a way to get a first down or be able to move the ball away and not give their own defense a short field to defend - I think we may see a lot better field position for our offense this year because of this defense.

Campbell and Zorn are going to have to step up big time here - Campbell might be the big time QB, many here think he is and Zorn must realize that he's got to produce with better coaching and better play-calling or he's history with Snyder looking at all these other coaches that want some of his money  Nobody will give Zorn any credit if we do not succeed and that is a shame. I may be wrong about Zorn but I think he's going to be a good NFL coach.

The concern I have is in order for the offense to have a chance we have to have so many things happen and I think that should be taken into consideration, BUT if the O line is not great, Campbell is not great or the receivers are not great nothing is not going to matter to these 2 bozos and we will be looking at changes for change sake - just like always
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
