Except when it comes to wide receivers...there's a whole mess of failure right there (tenth overall pick for Travis Taylor, another 1st on Mark Clayton, etc.)

True but they invested a ton into both of their lines over the past few years... <cough> <cough>  Which leads us back on topic (so we can still have our own private discussion, joking guys im joking that having a better defensiveline will improve the health of our LB's and DB's.

Man, I understand why he was released, but it sucked. My favorite Redskin of the modern era is Jessie Armstead. He was released. Second favorite? Marcus Washington. Released. I guess my new favorite player should be... Um. Griffin(High cap number.)?

Not really. Plus, we would just need him to be serviceable for a year or two until we land a younger and proven LB.

Well, I may not post much at all any more(Used to post a lot.), but the avatar is staying.

I'd change my favorite player to Cooley or Campbell, but Cooley would probably not survive favorite player status and for Campbell it would be kiss of death.

This is a running trend, too. My favorite Arkansas BBallers were Ronnie Brewer and Patrick Beverley, they both left early. My favorite Arkansas football player was Damian Williams and he transferred. My favorite Miami player in the late '90s aside from Zo and Hardaway was PJ Brown, he was let go. My favorite Heat players since then aside from Wade have been Caron Butler, Rafer Alston, and James Posey, all of which have been traded or let go.

I am bad luck for players.

He's 36. He's a bandaid and we have serviceable LBs atm. Not interested in a guy who MIGHT have 2 years in the tank if we're lucky. He's too old.

I think its time to bring MW back, at least for insurance purposes.

To ensure mediocrity? I don't like it, unless there was some underlying issue that curtailed his preformance in the recent past. I'd rather have Fincher over there with a little youth than a declining Washington.

I'm not saying he has to start. I'm just saying that I personally don't feel comfy with who we have. Regardless, we finished 4th last year and MW was far from a horrific liability. How bad he played is being blown out of proportion and the improved dline will aid him.

I'm all for youth movements but I feel like we have a move have a gaping wound that offense may pick at. Let's just have an insurance policy.

I don't see the issue with having him on the bench just in case... What is that going to hurt?

I happen to agree with you, Chris. VetSkinsFan will typically post a response without actually thinking it out logically. :P

If the team decided to bring in a vet at LB, I'd also consider bringer Washington back. Marcus Washington has come up in various discussions over at Redskins park since his release earlier this offseason, and Gary Fitzgerald even mentions Marcus in his most recent "Fan Mailbag" article over at Redskins.com...

Question: What do you think the chances are of the Redskins adding another veteran linebacker, such as a Derrick Brooks, for leadership and consistency? Or do they like what they’ve got enough to go with it?

-- Brandon W.

Gary: I believe the Redskins are set with their linebackers for now. In preseason, they will evaluate how well Brian Orakpo is adjusting to playing strong-side linebacker and whether Robert Thomas, H.B. Blades, Chris Wilson and Alfred Fincher figure into the mix at the position. Don’t forget rookies Cody Glenn and Robert Henson, although their focus is likely special teams. It’s unlikely the Redskins will pursue Brooks, a weak-side linebacker; the Redskins like Rocky McIntosh at that position. If they opt to bring in a veteran, I would believe Marcus Washington would be first on the list. It’s surprising that Washington, who played strong-side linebacker for the Redskins from 2004-08, is still a free agent.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Freak.

I would also like to point out that there's probably a reason that he wasn't snatched up as soon as he was made available. He was a weak link before he got cut due to injury & decline. To use that same roster spot on the same guy, simply discounted, doesn't work for me. I thought that we got the same if not better production from the guys we have currently. Add in to the mix Orakpo who's supposed to spend some time at SLB and DE, I don't feel that his services are needed.

His knowledge /widsom can't be discounted. This wouldn't be a long-term deal but name another strong-side backer at the moment of this disucssion that we could bring in to serve as an insurance policy?

We have 0 knowledge of how any of these guys will pan out. We do know what we'll get out of MW. I'm just looking for some insurance they we won't be completley screwed at that position. I'd rather be partially screwed than completely screwed. LOL

Its sad to see him go, but it was time. Age and injuries have gotten to him. Farewell!

I hope he tags along with a winning team.

We weren't completely screwed last year and we have the same guys. Blades (I know, not natural position) and Fincher played reasonably well last year. With the addition of Orakpo (yes, I know he's not proven anything yet), I don't feel worried that the SLB position will be a leak in the dam.

I do understand the variable, but I still don't see Washington as more than a player past his prime and likely to be injured. I don't like to be down on players, but that's just what I see.

I am thankful for the years he provided for us, but it's time to move on IMO.

The Skins made him a vet minimum offer early after cutting him. Seems like it's Marcus's decision not to sign with the Skins.

After releasing him in February, the Redskins made one attempt to re-sign Washington, offering a one-year veteran-minimum deal, according to team sources. Washington quickly rejected it, and, according to several Redskins players, had no intention of returning to the team.

Those mean Redskins hurt his feelings!

That's kinda raw. Not exactly the most honorable way to handle it from the FO.
