Greg Ellis

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Greg Ellis

Post by SnyderSucks »

The Cowboys are reportedly trying to trade Greg Ellis. Failing a trade, he could be cut to save the Cowboys about 5 million. He plays OLB (not sure which side), is big at 6-6 260, and had 8 sacks last year - twice as many as anyone on Washington. He's also 34 when the season starts.

I would definitely look into him as a one or two year starter/depth at OLB if he is available.
With the Cardinals reaching the Super Bowl, is Dan Snyder officially the worst owner in the league?

If he could play a position of need and came in cheap (after he was cut), I wouldn't mind. I doubt he'll be cheap.

ehhh....maybe not... i dont really care.

What if he wears a helmet that is half Redskins half Texas Longhorns? Could he be on the team then?

I am sure we will be adding some players soon but I am not sure how Blache feels about who he has right now - just adding players is not nearly as important as adding players that make the others around them better.

In the past we just added players and hoped they'd fit in - these guys have done better recently in trying to make the team bettter and not just plugging in "talent" and hoping it fits.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

The guy is a good player. He would definatley fill a need. Question is will he come cheap?
I do not care that he was a former cowboy. As long as he comes here and plays well. If he can do that then it is all to the good.
Whenever a player is picked up by the arch rival it usually bodes well for the team who picks up the player.
Either way I wont lose sleep if we do not get him.ILike the idea of picking him up though.

He's an outside linebacker in a 3-4, he doesn't fit our defense AND we don't need him. He's similar to Carter, Wilson, and Orakpo...

I can just see it now -- Skins sign Ellis and ask him to gain 30 lbs so he can take Daniels LDE spot next year...

No thanks!

Your right and he is 34 or will be soon. It might take him a couple of years to get used to playing a 4-3. Plus I keep thinking of Deon and would really rather not ever have another ex-cowboy on the team or any of their coaches either.

If I remember correctly he was a DE before Dallas switched to a 3-4. He was unhappy about switching to a 3-4 OLB but made the transition. He not a 4-3 LB match. We could sign him for the dline but the last thing we need there is another old guy.
Go Skins!!!
I was reading in the paper today about this dwarf that got pick pocketed. How could anyone stoop so low?

If it wasn't for Taylor signing in Miami he would be going there.

He played 4-3 a few years back, but, he's stated several times that he doesn't want to go back to that role.

He had an interview on NFL Sirius where he sided with TO after he was released. JJ is still cleaning the mess from that and Greg is one of them.

Green Bay would make a whole lot of sense for Greg to go, but, that would mean that GM would have the sense to pick him up. Thus far this offseason, he hasn't made many smart moves.

Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

If he came cheap, I'd pick him up in a heartbeat. 8 sacks and an INT last year.
...any given Sunday....

RIP #21 Sean Taylor. You will be loved and adored by Redskins fans forever!!!!!

I think signing Ellis would be a great, short-term investment. He's a well-maintained 34, had the eight sack last year, and he's got a beef with the Cowboys.

It's got nothing to do with loyalty. Well, maybe my loyalty to the Skins.

It's got nothing to do with the star, either. That's the business end of it. Shawn Springs' father played for Dallas. He maintained ties to that organization. Did that make him a bad seed?
Nope. Once you leave the team, you leave the logo. He has a legitimate beef with the organization, and would surely play with fire against them...not to mention the feelings he'd have for the Iggles and Gnats.
It's win-win, baby. Sign him for two.
I can't think right now, as my work day is about to begin...but surely there's a list of a dozen former Cowboys on our rosters over the last 30 years.
Sanders, that TE that Norv brought over, etc.

 Norv and Deion are your best examples?

To my knowledge, there have only been a couple former Cowpies that ever played worth a damn after they became Redskins.

Oh, pardon me. I didn't know you had such lofty standards, and that I was burdened with impressing you with my "Redskins as former Cowboys" knowledge.
All I'm saying is, putting him in there as part of the rotation with Daniels and our rookie opens things up for Orakpo even more. We've got him working out at Sam now, right ? You could get Ellis to take turns with him on that side, putting Orakpo in at DE in obvious passing situations. Ellis has experience in our division and is ticked off at Jones.
You don't like it? Fine. I don't care. The FO isn't going to ask me what I think.

I'm not trying to pick a fight with you TC. It's just that former Cowpies rarely ever work out for us, regardless of their careers before coming over. It always makes me leery.
