Yup, I'm gonna break down and go see Skynyrd and kid rock Aug 1 @ Nissan. Anyone ever seen either one of these live?
...any given Sunday....

I'm pretty excited. I've been to dozens of metal and rock shows, but I think this is going to be more unique than what I'm used to. I mean they're a bit different than Gwar, Ministry, and White Zombie. I've seen some softer groups, too, like Kiss and Aerosmith, but I still think this is going to be a bit different.

Man I wish I could go. I had the opprotunity to see Skynyrd when I was young and I stupidly passed up on it. I still regret it. I know a lot of people that have seen them multiple times and love it each time. I don't know anyone thats seen Kid Rock but I could imagine him putting on an awesome show.

Lynyrd Skynyrd died in a '77 plane crash.

I was waiting for someone to do that...it's good to know that the people who love to piss on your parade won't let you down. Thank you for not letting me down. Monkey

According to the 'rock snobs,' it's just a facade. I'll be going and enjoying my delusions of Skynyrd with my wife and a couple of good friends.

I'm sure you'll be requesting their new material, not all that old stuff written by Ronnie Van Zant.

Yeah...no not really. They still have some good music after 1977. If you get caught up in the politics and like to try to bring other people down, that's cool with me, dude. I don't have to put other people down to feel good about myself.

I saw Skynyrd In Scotland back in 97 on the Twentieth Anniversary too. Like Deadskins, I was kinda expecting a cheesefest to be honest but it was actually pretty good and enjoyable. Of course, Leon and Billy were still alive at that point so I dunno how it would be now. At worst, you will have more-than-competent musicians playing some great tunes. Nothing wrong with that.

That Kid Rock fella seems to be a moron though.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom – for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

Please elaborate. And I don't care about his sexual endeavors...I don't keep up withthe politics of music. If I like it, I listen to it. I don't care if he kicks homeless puppies.

I watched an unplugged with Kid Rock and Hank, Jr, awhile back...really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to seeing what he's got.

Yeah, we got that in the Vick thread, Dreamer. ROTFALMAO
Just funnin' with you. I don't think Kid and Skynyrd should be in the same conversation, but I can dig KR in his own category.
Skynyrd is in the HOF. Kid Rock? I don't even know what his genre is, and you ought to have a niche.
Incidentally, after "Street", I never felt the same about the band. A lot more than individual lives was lost on that horrific flight. The band (and all the offshoots) also 'ran out of fuel' for me.
No, when I want Skynyrd, I want 'FreeBird' v.1, et. al .
Did you know that the area of the plane that "Honkette" Cassie Gaines occupied was generally intact? She was killed by a small piece of debris that struck her in the temple. Everybody else was killed or grievously injured by the landing, which opened up the bottom of the Convair 240 like a Boy Scout trying to get into a can of pork 'n beans, man.
Tragic.
I've attached the NTSB report. It's a PDF file.

I can see your point, TC, on KR and Skynyrd.

I'm not a one trick pony. Growing up, my mom would listen to disco, oldies, and whatever decided to be top 40s at the time to my sister and her acid rock/southern rock influences, I listen to a lot. I mean, in one Spring afternoon, we could have listened to Air Supply, Devo, Skynyrd, Sabbath, Alabama, Earth, Wind, and Fire, and anything else in between.

Right now, for Pandora stations, I have NWA, Ozzy, Alabama, Johnny Cash, Metallica, Slayer, Gwar, Crystal Method, Suicidal Tendencies, Pink Floyd, Rascal Flatts among others.

I just like the way Kid Rock rolls. He seems to have his own style; pretty much whatever he wants, and I like that. He seems to enjoy his music and that's what it's about for me.
