ARLINGTON, Va. -- Washington forward Donald Brashear has been suspended for six games by the National Hockey League and will miss Tuesday's Game 7 of the Capitals' Eastern Conference Quarterfinal round series against the New York Rangers (7 p.m. ET, VERSUS, TSN, RDS) for his action both prior to, and during, Sunday's Game 6
For Avery, I agree. They come out with a league-wide memo stating sending a message at the end of a game will not e tolerated and that night Avery gets in Varly's face and connects with a punch. Where was Colin Campbell on that one? Campbell is typically even-handed and fair, so I don't think he's singling out the Caps. I think it is an over-reaction based on the injury that resulted and people comparing it to the Bertuzzi shot a few years back.

Game 7 – Last year the Capitals won game one, five and six to force a Game 7 at home against the Philadelphia Flyers where they lost 3-2. This year the Caps won game three, five and six to force a Game 7 again at home but this time the opponents are the New York Rangers. Washington is looking to make a little history tonight. The Caps have never won a Game 7 at Verizon Center and have only won one Game 7 (April 22, 1988 vs. Philadelphia). Washington could also become the 21st team in the NHL to win a series after falling behind 3-1. The Capitals will look to veteran forward Sergei Fedorov who has five points (2g-3a) and is 3-4 in Game 7s, while Alex Ovechkin had two points (1g-1a) in last year’s Game 7 against Philadelphia.
Note of the Night
Seventh heaven – Tuesday's game is the seventh Game 7 in Capitals history, the second at Verizon Center . Washington is 1-5 in Game 7, with the win coming in 1988, 1-4 at home and 0-1 at Verizon Center . On the whole, the home team has won 63% of the Game 7s in NHL history.
Washington 's Game 7s
4/22/08 vs. Philadelphia L, 2-3 OT
5/18/95 at Pittsburgh L, 0-3
5/1/92 vs. Pittsburgh L, 1-3
4/30/88 vs. New Jersey L, 2-3
4/16/88 vs. Philadelphia W, 5-4 OT
4/18/87 vs. NY Islanders L, 2-3 4OT
Five More Notes No Media Person Should Be Without
Hoping for history – Washington , which forced a Game 7 after falling behind 3-1 in last year's first-round series, is seeking to become the 21st team in 230 occasions to win a series after falling behind 3-1. The last team to come back from 3-1 to win a series was 2004, when Montreal beat Boston in seven games. The Capitals could also become the 38th team in 292 instances to win a series after falling behind 2-0. Carolina and Edmonton both erased 2-0 deficits on their way to the 2006 Stanley Cup Final, the last teams to do so.
Survival guide – Washington is 5-1 when facing elimination the last two seasons, including the do-or-die win in the 2008 regular-season finale. Alex Ovechkin has a goal in each of the last four games in which the Capitals have faced elimination (5g-1a in that in those games).
8's stage – Alex Ovechkin has now scored goals in three straight games and has points in four straight, including a highlight reel effort in Game 5. He shares the team lead with seven points in six games, ranks first in the league in shots and third in hits. He has had multiple-point games in six of the 13 playoff games he has played in his career. Ovechkin had a goal and an assist with nine shots on goal in Game 7 against Philadelphia last season.
Blue line, red light – Each of the first three Capitals goals in Sunday's Game 6 was scored by a defenseman, the first time all season that Washington has gotten three goals from its defense corps. Washington hasn't had three defensemen score in a game, regular season or playoffs, since March 12, 1996, when Sergei Gonchar, Calle Johansson and Mark Tinordi each tallied. The last time it happened in the playoffs was May 9, 1994, also against the Rangers (Shawn Anderson, Sylvain Cote, Kevin Hatcher).
Scoreboard – The Capitals have outscored the New York Rangers in this series, 17-10, entering the deciding Game 7. If the Rangers posted another one-goal win in Game 7, it would mark the largest goal differential for a losing team in a playoff series since Calgary outscored San Jose, 35-26, in 1995 but lost the series in seven games.

Well, I got off work early today so i could watch this one live. I can barley breathe I'm so excited...C'MON CAPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UNLEASH THE FURY!!!!!!!!!
Bruce has the authority. When Bruce makes the decision, it's a Redskins decision.
After calming down a little, the last time I watched the Caps skate off the ice with a series victory, we were on our way to the finals and my dad and I had jumped up and down hugging for like 15 minutes because Joe Juneau had send the Caps, the CAPS to the Cup finals. I know I did not post this in the gameday blog, but the only thing I wish those guys to know is how happy they have made me. With 15 seconds left I put my hands on my head and started tearing up. Keep it going guys! GO CAPS!!!

Dag Jake you had a chance to go??? It's all good man, we got another series to work on. Saturday I'm gonna try and see if I can get another ticket for $20 but I'll raise it up to $40 if I have too. Man I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it.
The end of that game was phenomenal, if not maddening from a New Jersey Devils standpoint.
Not often you score a soft goal on one of the best goalies in the league with 35 seconds in game 7 to win the series. Props to the 'Canes for not giving up.
That was the best series no one was talking about.

Your ‘A’ Game – While individual rivalries grab the spotlight in Capitals-Penguins series previews, there is an interesting parallel behind the bench as well. Both Capitals head coach Bruce Boudreau and Penguins’ boss Dan Bylsma were in-season promotions from their franchise’s AHL affiliates and led their teams to the playoffs as first-year NHL coaches – Boudreau last year and Bylsma this season. The coaches, who will appear on separate media conference calls this afternoon, each got their first taste of the longstanding Capitals-Penguins rivalry with those AHL teams. Washington ’s affiliate, the Hershey Bears, and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins are long-time rivals as well – in fact, they meet in the second round of the AHL playoffs with a series that starts just six hours after the Caps and Pens face off at Verizon Center Saturday.
