Official Undrafted Free Agent Signing Thread

Post by Jeff Rhodes »

Now that the draft is over, does anyone have a list of undrafted players who could potentially be signed? Is there anyone left who could help the Redskins this season?

We signed Chase Daniels to a two year deal- QB
And we signed up the C/G Edwin Williams from MD.

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redski ... aniel.html

Right now these appear to be good Undrafted FA signings. -

A lot of people were pushing for Williams to get drafted with us but looks like the Skins will get to work him out this summer anyways.

I'm a Maryland alum and watch their games. The Terps had a very respectable o-line, so I like the additions of Williams and Burley.

The signing of Chase Daniel is interesting as well. The team always wants a minimum of 4 QB's in camp, but even though Missouri ran the spread offense, Daniel was a Heisman Trophy finalist is 2007 and I think it's a good signing.

Daniels was a legit QB. I'm not sure if that will apply to the pro game but I don't have a problem with him coming in for 2 years and trying to make it. I know he has the experience and confidence to run the offense, but given his size, it may be his biggest obstacle. But Drew Breeze doesn't seem to have a problem with that.

Obviously, it's time to cut Jason Campbell.

I don't even think this guy is a threat to Colt. Weak arm? Not a drafted QB? I don't know maybe he might turn out to be someone but for right now hes no threat.

Chase Daniel... not Daniels.

Personally I wanted Brian Hoyer but getting Chase Daniel in camp is nice. If he can't beat Collins out of camp he can be stashed on the practice squad. He's a little on the small side but he's very accurate, makes quick decisions and he makes good decisions. He doesn't throw a lot of picks. I'd like to see him stick around, but he's gotta earn it.

I love the guy for his play at the ZOU, but he is not an NFL caliber QB by any means. He has a horrible arm, though if Jim Zorn switches up to the spread O, look out!
Bruce has the authority. When Bruce makes the decision, it's a Redskins decision.

And wasn't........(drum roll)......Colt Brennan in the running as well in 2007??? That's kinda strange...

No he is very slow with his decision making, and if the first option is not open, often times Jeremy Macklin or Chase Coffman, he took a god awful long time trying to find second and third targets. Watch the game against Oklahoma St. last year or the 2007 Big 12 Championship game to see him buckle when those two are were not open. Furthermore Mizzou has lacked any kind of deep passing game because of his arm. He was great in the spread O, but it would surprise me if he even made the roster.

Why sign him to a 2 yr contract if he's just training camp fodder? I don't understand it. Obviously its the Skins and they do some pretty amazing things with contract structuring, but still...I taped the draft and fast forwarded it to various places and noticed that at the end of the 7th round, the best remaining QBs list that Kiper showed on the screen didn't have Daniel's name on it....and the list had 10 names.

Mel is God right????

Not he has a big opinion to go with his big hair. A lot of his players were still on the board. Check out who was available on "His" board that were lineman that were falling down 2-3 rounds. Teams didn't value his guys as much as he does. If he were such a good talent evaluator, he'd be working for an NFL team to help them with their draft, like the Baltimore Ravens whom he's a season ticket holder....don't you think?

Yeah, Kiper had a few guys like Jamon Meredith and Duke Robinson listed as the "best available" over the course of like 2 and a half rounds. Kiper is okay, but clearly GM's and scouts don't always agree with him.

FWIW I think Kiper would be an NFL Scout, he's obviously talented and watches a ton of tape. He just gets paid more working for ESPN and he's on TV... I'll bet a good number of NFL scouts would like his job.

Then again, his is jut one opinion and scouts disagree all the time, even in their own warroom.

Wow! I'm telling you right now Chase Daniel is one hell of a football player. I know about the size issue, but this kid is a serious competitior, and when he knows the offense, he makes decisions where to go with the ball lighning fast... Drew Breeze is not a bad comparison... ask Jeremy Macklin what he thinks of Chase... without Chase, Macklin would have been a 3rd rounder at best... I'll be shocked if he doesn't push Colt and TC hard...
