As a lot of people have pointed out the injury Jansen suffered 2 years ago is frequently followed by a sucking year. He's not that old and he's always been a great player. To be concerned about that we haven't addressed the future of the position is reasonable, but to say we have no one to start is premature.

Jansen was in decline prior to that injury. Don't get your hopes up. What's with the man-crush on Jansen. He talks a better game then he delivers. He was very good once but we're talking four or more years ago. Maybe because of his contract they can get some use out of him as a backup guard. The skin's made a mistake on his contract. If it wasn't for that he'd be out of the league.

I agree that we need O lineman. But let me ask a question though: Why do you think that none of these lineman are being drafted right now? Here is my answer: No team feels that they are worth a draft pick at the current slot. Most of them are projects and they will be brought in after the draft as UFA's and given the opportunity to prove themself. Ask Stephon Heyer how that works out. We will find one or two guys who can do something I believe.

I always wonder about draft picks too. You know, all these draftniks say so and so prospect needs this or that environment to survive in the NFL. Makes you think, David Carr, Joey Harrington and Patrick Ramsey all had talent obviously... now what if they had gone into different situations? Their careers may look a LOT different today. Same if Joe Montana hadn't gotten drafted by the 49ers, on a different team there's no way he finds a system like the early WCO that shows off his skills. If he plays in a stretch the field offense we may never have heard of him.

The bottom line is, you have to draft for your style and you have to develop your players.

Kazoo your right. I think about what Buges said. He said something like Jon went through a huge injury and ran out of gas. Jon is old though. He has mileage and injury problems. He has gotten in great shape though. He might be the answer for at least 1 year if we are lucky.

Well hell, we gave up a 2nd rounder for a former defensive player of the year who was injured. No one expected that.

We traded a 4th round pick for a two year starter at guard. (Pete Kendall)

And we traded a 7th round pick for Erasmus James.

Some may not have worked out, but it wasn't like past years where picks were totally wasted. Those were good moves at the time.
