Jamon Meredith is only rated a point lower than one that went in the second and is rated higher than 2 that have been drafted. He's still on the board. He's been on Kipers 10 best available since the beginning of the 3rd round. Everybody has tackles, thats why they aren't going. The skins don't have one, they just don't care.

Didn't we take a 3d round o-lineman last year?

We took a guard. We need OT's. We will never beat Pittsburgh, Baltimore, NY, NE, etc. until we improve the pass blocking.

Well Sidbury is off the board. I see an offensive lineman as our next pick.

Knowing our Front Office, we go WR next pick.

It can never be a terrible pick if the player is good. It was not the smartest pick since we have needs at offensive line and Outside linebacker. But, the pick is not terrible. Since the player is really good.

I used to find myself being pissed on draft day. Now I am finding myself saying hey at least they are picking up talented players. Now only if our team can start developing this talent?

Exactly. All that we have done to improve the line this year is sign Dockery. He's a fine player but he's not a huge upgrade over Kendall. We have done nothing to improve RT, which was arguably the weakest position on the team last year.

That's way too close to an area of need. I'm guessing we take a TE or a MLB

I just want to say that at least in rounds 1-3, maybe even 4, I am not a proponent of best player available. And when the skins do best player available, they really don't take the best player available. Orakpo was a no brainer, you would have to be unconscious to miss that one.

Then he should be there in the 5th... right :?:

If not... How about Duke Robinson or maybe Gerald Cadogan?

One of the three has to still be there after the next 20 picks

NYG's just took Andre Brown from NC State - my team - and I am pissed. He's a really good RB who always falls foreward when he gets tackled. Wish he would have gone elsewhere.

I'm guessing Meredith and Cadogan are both gone. Cadogan is a lot worse than Meredith anyway, but he'll probably still be gone. I could be wrong, and the skins could get lucky like they did with WR's last year, but experts projected like 8 more OT's to be gone by this point than there has been.

I happen to think Jansen will bounce back strong this year. Also all reports have Randy Thomas being stronger than ever.

You have to think if Randy Thomas played so banged up last year? Then that means Jansen had to try and plug the gap Thomas created as well as his own.

All though I prefer us drafting an OT. The talent simply was not there.

I like that this FO is picking up the talented ones versus need. We pay pick up the leader we need for this team.

Wasn't Chad Rinehart actually a LT in college? Also he's 6'5'' 320.

Anyway, if everyone's healthy we have an

LT Chris Samuels- 6 time Pro-Bowler (1st rounder)
LG- Derrick Dockery- Once one of the highest paid guards. (3rd rounder)
C- Casey Rabach one of the most respected centers in the league. (3rd rounder.)
RG- Randy Thomas- One of the top guards. (2nd rounder.)
RT- Jon Jansen- Skills eroding but excellent tackle with good backups (2nd rounder.)

We also have a former 1st rounder and Heyer to back Jansen up. The line is actually pretty good. Sure, Michael Oher would have made that line incredible, but look at Brian Orakpo. He's a beast, he is absolutely huge. Get a look at that vid of him in the weight room. He obviously has the dedication to become a star, he works hard.

Also, who just said Dockery wasn't a huge upgrade over Kendall

Everybody is acting like Barnes was way better than any OT left on the board. He's not even rated higher than 2 or 3 of them.

Look, as much as I like them Scouts Inc. is just one perspective. There are veteran player evaluators who would have different ratings. There's 32 teams with professional scouts with 32 different draft boards. Who cares exactly where Scouts Inc. put who? Meredith and Barnes were both projected 3rd round, so who cares what the points were?

I don't think anyone's acting like that.

But don't you think that if there's a lineman there in the 3rd that they felt was worth picking that they would have done it?

According to Redskins Insider, they tried like crazy to trade back so this is who they went with in a spot they wanted to move out of.

I'm happy with our pick because we need cornerback depth about as much as RT.

Everyone's acting like Jansen sucks and we need a RT immediately but Jansen isn't as bad as people are making him out to be. We just signed Williams on Friday so that probably factored into why there hasn't been a lineman taken so far.

Oh and the Broncos pick over Meredith with Seth Olsen.

The point is there is no point going best player available if there are players just as good at positions of need.

The offensive line was TERRIBLE last season. It is absurd to think that it will automatically get better as our already old players get older. Jansen, by the way, is not an excellent tackle anymore. At this point he is below average and has no business being a starter in the NFL. Go back and watch how badly he got abused in pass protection last season. It was an embarrassment. I really do love posts like this that proclaim that the o-line will miraculously get better despite only one change being made, and that to a part of the line that wasn't really a problem.

Jansen does suck. His play last season supports that.
