OFFICIAL Washington Redskins Draft Day Discussion.
Might as well get started. The purpose of the draft thread is both:
1) to predict our next pick and, of course,
2) comment on the previous ones.
I will jump in to say that we take a LB with our`13th pick, probably the guy from SC with the Samoan last name: Maualuga
I pray to God that no attempt is made to move "up" to draft another QB.
Chime in please ...

I want him too but only if there is not a really good o lineman available at 13

If this means anything both NFL radio on sirius and 590 the fan here in St. Louis are both reporting the Rams purchased Mark Sanchez a plane ticket for sunday to come to St. Louis.
Bruce has the authority. When Bruce makes the decision, it's a Redskins decision.

I know you mean that the Skins will not even have a chance to enter the sweepstakes for Sanchez but I wish to remind other posters that the thread is intended to be focused on the Skins Draft and all other Draft views probably would be best placed in the Around The League Forum. Thanks.Sir_Monk wrote:If this means anything both NFL radio on sirius and 590 the fan here in St. Louis are both reporting the Rams purchased Mark Sanchez a plane ticket for sunday to come to St. Louis.

Honestly I would not be surprised if:
We trade up to 2nd.
We trade up to 4th.
We trade up to 8th.
We trade back in the draft.
We could pick Sanchez, Orakpo, Ayers, Cushing, Maybin, Brown, Oher, Monroe, Maualuga, Matthews, Jackson or even Freeman
We could trade for Brady Quinn, Boldin, Edwards or trade Jason Campbell...
Nothing would surprise me today.

Agreed but you are firing a shotgun blast. Dare to be more specific about you "most likely" choice?
I know the point is unpredictability but come on man. Give us your least unlikely choice.

Redskins trying to make early move for USC QB Mark Sanchez

Goooood Morning, Jets fans,
Just heard from one of my guys and the latest word is that the Redskins are trying to get up to the No. 2 slot to take Sanchez but it's an uphill climb. Owner Daniel Synder has said he's not going to give up a No. 1 in his 2010 draft and that's probably what it would take to get to the second spot in the batting order.
Big props to PennysPoBoys, a new voice on my blog. He mentioned San Jose State DT-DE Jarron Gilbert as being on the Jets' radar and I've heard the same thing although his name has flown under the radar. Good job.

If they do that, I'm writing a letter to Snyder and Cerrato asking them to step down and bring in people with common sense.

Granted, it was bad value but if the Patriots set the bar at a 2nd rounder for someone like Cassel I dunno why we would give up a #1 for Sanchez.
The Rams want out of that spot badly, but even if we worked a decent trade we'd owe Sanchez a ton in contract money.
It would depend on what we did with JC. I'll reserve judgement until something happens I guess.

All I know is that I have a foreboding sense of dread. I want to see us go ultra-conservative with this draft. Just pick the best guy at our position of need with each pick. Little-to-no trading (not even trading down!), nothing flashy, and I'll be happy.
The way I look at it is that we've made our bed, traded away many of our picks, and if we just accept it this year, deal with the consequences, and move on, our future looks a lot brighter.

Somebody may be spreading rumours to increase Sanchez value. BUT if they do this, I will welcome you to the Rebellion against the Evil Empire.

The fact is, no one knows if this will be a good draft until about 3 years from now... remember all those Jets fans cheering for Blair Thomas and Bengals fans cheering Akili Smith?
Or Eagles fans booing McNabb!

Not very complicated, Is it?
But some will argue that an "ultra-conservative" draft does not add "marketing value". Sorry.

I was in Samoa last Wednesday. I know that there are many American sons and daughters of Samoan immigrants. He is not the first good player of Samoan origin in the NFL. Hopefully the Front Office will learn what Samoans have shown in many Rugby teams over the last couple of decades.tribeofjudah wrote:Samoan last name because he IS Samoan....too funny ric......

I agree Irn-Bru, except the trading down is OK with me if we don't have the guys we want available at #13. But trading up and it making sense is hard to imagine unless someone just gives us a pick for below value and you sure can't count on that. But you never know, teams to things like the year we traded #5 to the Aints for all their picks so they could draft a pot head.

My bad RIC, no I'm more worried that the Rams know a thing or two about the Skins because of their new head coach and are putting up a smokescreen to get the Skins to buy the bate and mortgage the farm for Sanchez.

Don't the Rams have better things to do with their time then spend their time trying to screw us up? Or if you're suggesting we'd actually go for the #2 pick, we have nothing to offer for that and they have to know that. Anyway, if the Rams think good negotiating is assuming your counterparts are imbeciles then they are truly horrible negotiators indeed. It's a poor way to use your time hoping other teams will do something really stupid instead of using your time and effort productively. Then again, they are the Rams...

we do have things to offer. I do not want to see this but if Zorn is so high on Davis our drafted TE last year then you could offer

I'm not sure how that gets us to the #2 pick in the draft. That you list players who could be part of a package without listing the value that gets you to the #2 pick doesn't take us anywhere. I like

13 is really a bad spot for us to be in. With the Peters trade, Oher will come off the board at 11 most likely. That means we would have to reach to take an O lineman at 13. What they should do (and has been mentioned here) is take the best defensive player off the board here. If it is Malauga, Everette Brown, Cushing if he falls- get something we need, as Irn Bru suggested.
Goddamn Snyder. I just can't fathom how he is missing the big picture here. I really can't.
The main reason Campbell sucked in the second half last year was because of O line issues. Dockery is a good move, but it is a stop gap measure that won't guarantee long term stability. Can't someone tell the Danny to snap out of it??
