Redskins: Salave'a Seeking A Second Chance

Post by ANT7088 »

As one of the newest Redskins, Joe Salave'a is hoping for a quiet rebirth to his NFL career. The 6-3, 290-pound defensive tackle signed with the Redskins in late March and considers himself to be somewhat "under the radar" as the team continues its off-season workout program.

290 is a bit light. but it's not like were are stacked at DT either.

Hopefully this guy will be a sleeper and fill the hole of a hard charging DT. I think we have a run stuffing DT and De. We just need a hard charging Dt that can peneterate and a pass rushing De.

I believe that we have had enough overweight and overpaid DTs to last a lifetime in the last 10 years...so to read about an undersized guy with the heart to play it sure makes you hope that he is the next Dave Butz...I'll take 5 hard working 290pounders over 3 overweight 330+ guys anyday...its about making plays, not playing size...

i tend to agreewith you EvilHOG, but its also hard to stop the run when you can't even move off the ball b/c you are too fat...but i think our biggest dline problem has been laziness...i mean bigdaddie??? Stubby?? both classic underachievers...lets just hope that we have enough numbers to make up for the lack of size...if i remember Dallas won b2b titles with an undersized, but deep line rotation and lots of speed everywhere else...i think that is our plan at this point...work hard, keep fresh bodies inside and get everywhere we can as fast as we can, then lay the SMACK down...

our line was so bad last year, that i'm super, cautiously optomistic. i think a 290 lb guy can get it done, but i just don't want to get my hopes up. and yes we did have some terrible big guys stuffed inside, so i see where you are coming from. i thought holsey(also a 290 pounder) did an OK job last year in his limited time, but we did get run over by a bunch of no name rushers that make me want to :puke: (mainly hambrick)

Lets hope that we can be more solid now...
if not it will be another big summer of spending for a bunch of pissed off fans...

last year, the critics all said our DT's were our weak link. but all the redskins news said edwards scheme would utilize the LB's and make up for it. we still don't have solid DT's, and now williams scheme is supposed to take care of it. while i shouldn't use williams and edwards in the same comparison, it does make me a bit nervous.

We actually had a decent defense and could stop the run with Lewis at the helm and Gardner playing DT. That year our run defense was decent except when we played the pukes.
God bless our troops and Joe Gibbs.
We'll miss you, Joe.

I agree, hs666. When it comes down to it, weaknesses are weaknesses; and we can't keep saying that schemes are going to make up for it. I don't think we have the best OL in the league though it's great, and I try not to downlplay some of the weakness on our D-line and say that coaching will fix it. Schemes are important, but can't make up for weak players.

The great news is that Gibbs will root out all of the weak players more effectively than Spurrier (or Edwards) ever could. But for this season I won't expect miracles from the D-line just from a change in scheme.

one good point to make is, at least we can expect the most out of the average line we have, because of the coaching. there won't be anyone taking plays off, or wondering who their man is.
with the back seven we have, getting a pass rush and a little presure on the QB shouldn't be a problem. stopping the run is what really bothers me.

Well, Hellhog... he's got to meet a higher standard than in the previous few years, doesn't he ? I think if Williams likes him, we're good.
