Mark Sanchez, QB, USC: Sanchez definitely is one of the top five to eight players available in this draft, and getting him here would be a bit of a steal, because had he returned to USC for his senior season, he likely would have been the No. 1 overall pick.
In the 3rd he has us taking Kyle Moore, DE from USC

IMO, there is no way Sanchez gets past San Francisco at #10. And I've read something about a team trading with the Jags to pick him up at #8. I just don't see him lasting to #13 and even if he did we would pick an OLB, OT, or DE before we pick Sanchez...I think, you never know with our FO.

I'm with you, if Denver doesn't trade up to get in front of the niners and sit tight at 12 and Sanchez falls to 12 he will be gone 9'30" before we pick.

As for the topic at hand, as I've said before. I'm not personally sold on Sanchez, and I'm not prepared to make a decision on Campbell either way. If the team drafts Sanchez, I think it means they have made their's, though.

Agree with a comment I saw from another thread. Campbell will be the QB this year. If he fails and Sanchez is here, then Campbell moves on at the end of the season. If JC succeeds and garners a new contract, we now have a #1 sitting as back-up. Classic QB controversy in the making.
Bad idea to draft Sanchez.. We should let Campbell play this year. If he succeeds(which i think he will) then there would be no need to draft a QB, and if we do draft Sanchez then we have another situation like the Chargers had and the Browns have.. but lets say he fails like a lot of you are saying he will. We'll have a bad record which would lead to a good draft pick. And next year the QB draft class is so much better. With Tebow, McCoy, Bradford. Those are the names that pop in my head at first. So i say draft something we need now like an OL, OLB, or DE...

Well, USC demolished a good Lions team, their defense was what really took the Lions out of the game IMO. I think it's a sign of how shallow the QB pool is that Sanchez would even go this high. Granted, I don't follow college football all that closely but from what I saw of him, nothing said "wow, NFL star in the making."

Yep, I agree Fios. Other than only being a one year starter, Sanchez is coming out as an underclassman, which was the primary reason Pete Carroll was so against Sanchez's decision to declare. Carroll said the statistics don't bode well for underclassmen QB's having much success early on at the pro level.
I actually believe the primary reason Sanchez decided to declare this year was directly attributed to the fact that this is a weaker QB class. I'm sure Sanchez's agent told him if he came out this year, he'd have a far better chance of getting drafted much higher with the ability to make more money. If Sanchez waited to come out next year, there's a chance he doesn't even go in the 1st round. This year he's the 2nd rated QB in the draft. Next year he might only be the 4th or 5th best.

The difference between Campbell/Brennan and Sanchez is nothing compared to Heyer vs. an actual right tackle, Blades vs. an actual OLB, or the geezers vs. an actual DE. i also watched Sanchez and the entire USC defense roll over against Oregon State, which makes me weary of drafting any of them, especially the linebackers. Although I wouldn't want to try and tackle Quiz Rodgers either.

Year one was a redshirt year, years two and three he backed up Booty, and year four he started. He saw game action in three of his four years at USC and started games in both 2007 and 2008.

Exactly on the Squiz Rogers remark. I think that USC defense may have been the best I have seen in college football for some time... definitely the most talented. It's not even fair when you have Maualuga, Taylor Mays(Sean Taylor mold, a freak), Cushing, Matthews just to name a few. I think they only allowed 7 points a game last year! I thought USC was the best team in the nation hands down last year. Remember Oregon State was a pretty good football team last year that had gotten better and better as the year went on.

Right... which is exactly the reason why Carroll publicly voiced harsh criticism against Sanchez's decision, specifically noting that the statistics weigh heavily against underclassmen QB's having success in the NFL.
"We don't see this decision the same," Carroll said. "Mark's going against the grain on this decision and he knows that. He knows coming out early is a tremendous challenge for a quarterback and the statistics don't back up that it will be easy the way he's going about it."
"I am disappointed in that the information that we have wasn't compelling enough to make it clear to him," Carroll said. "Our view of it is, and as you guys will see as you dig into this a little bit more, you'll see that these early entry quarterbacks are less than 50-50 successful."
“The facts are so strong against this decision,” Carroll said. “After analyzing all the information, the truth is there — he should’ve stayed for another year.”
Carroll cited a study that shows 62 percent of underclassmen quarterbacks who declare early for the Draft eventually don’t pan out in the NFL. He also pointed to Sanchez’s NFL Draft evaluation, which projected Sanchez as a second-round selection.
“Mark’s chance to increase his value and become the top player in college football next year would have been worth $10-$20 million or more — likely more,” Carroll said. “One more year of running a team is almost priceless, so he lost the chance to fully prepare himself and become the very best he could be before going to the NFL.
“That’s why there’s a 62 percent failure rate for underclassmen quarterbacks.”
It's one thing when the media or some so-called fans say it, but it's quite another when his COACH publicly says it, Canes. His coach holds quite a bit more weight in the evaluation process.
I think I agree with you all but here's the catch for Sanchez... If he had stayed he wouldn't have been picked maybe at all in first round of the 2010 draft. Don't forget Bradford (OK) and Tebow (FL) will be coming out too. Except for Matthew Stafford (GA) and *maybe* Josh Freeman (KS. St) who really out there as a QB is better? I do agree that another year would've been better for him obviously but we all know that making the dollars at your peak is what most of these college kids want. Here's his opportunity to get drafted in the first round of a weak QB pool and he took it.
Now, as for us drafting him.. man I hope not because I still want to give Colt a chance if JC doesn't make it and our team still needs help at other positions. I am rooting for JC though because he's so "Doug-esq" if you know what I mean

Zorn handpicked Colt. Colt is his guy. Campbell is Gibbs guy. Zorn is just giving Campbell a fair shot. I would not be surprised if Colt gets thrown in mid season.
Just think about it. If you were a head coach? Who would you pick of two unproven Qbs? A guy another coach drafted? Or choose a Qb you seem fit? Of course you are going to trust your own instincts.
Zorn is just doing the Politically correct move for now. Being that he is a rookie and trying not to make any controversial moves. A mistake on his part I think. I would rather he just trade Campbell away and start the process already.
